Meet Maggie Mahoney ‘24’26G, an Occupational Therapy student who is currently pursuing her doctorate at UNH. Mahoney was drawn to UNH’s occupational therapy program because it offered exposures to various specialties, from pediatrics to psychotherapy, along with the unique opportunity for her to earn her doctorate in 6 years. Throughout her time at UNH, she has taken advantage of multiple experiential learning opportunities such as leading therapy groups for young children at the UNH Child Study and Development Center and co-leading sessions at an addiction recovery center. Mahoney and fellow healthcare students had the opportunity to travel to Kenya for two weeks where they provided educational outreach and OT support to children with disabilities in underserved communities. Her favorite memory from the trip was when she and her classmates were welcomed at one of the local schools and got to sing and dance with the students, teachers, and parents as part of a cultural tradition. Mahoney’s upcoming level two fieldwork placements will be split between an outpatient pediatric clinic in Arizona and an inpatient acute care setting at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Her ultimate dream is to work in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).Reflecting on her time at UNH, Mahoney says it's been a period of growth, and she is grateful to her family and the OT program’s faculty.
