๐ Course Spotlight: ANSC 647 Equine Stable Management In this course students learn how to make equine management decisions based upon science and business principles through hands-on labs and group exercises. They develop essential skills like organization, time management, record-keeping, observation, communication, problem-solving, and task prioritizationโall tailored to the equine industry. ๐ On this day in class, students honed their skills by performing physical examinations on horses and applying bandages to distal limbs. They learned to identify normal and abnormal health indicators and practiced applying a bandage over a wound. Throughout the semester, the class visits several local farms to observe and compare different management strategies, administer vaccinations, conduct fecal examinations, and administer deworming when needed. The knowledge gained in this course prepares students to effectively manage or own an equine business, enhancing both their practical and managerial capabilities. Whether they plan to work in, manage, or own an equine facility, students leave with a comprehensive understanding of horse health, client relations, and facility management. Primarily pursued by students majoring in Animal Science, ANSC 647 is a gateway to a career in equine management, transforming students into skilled professionals ready to lead in the industry.
