Sometimes, you only have a few seconds to convince someone to hire you. That’s exactly the scenario students across @uofnh practiced at the @UNHSales Speed Sell event today in the MUB’s Granite State Room. Over 125 students pitched the best product of all – themselves – to over 20 different companies. It’s like speed dating, but, you know. Speed selling! Students only had 90 seconds to introduce themselves and explain their background, hobbies, and accomplishments. When time ran out, employers offered feedback on the pitch before the student moved to the next table to start again. This information is invaluable for students to hone their skills, gain confidence in themselves, and even handle rejection with grace. Speed sells are also a great hands-on experience. They allow students to apply the theoretical knowledge they have gained in their coursework to real-life situations. Sales is all about effective communication, and speed selling forces students to convey their value propositions quickly and persuasively. When participants weren’t on the floor pitching, they had the opportunity to network with each other, and continue their conversations with business professionals during the lunch hour.
