๐ Course Spotlight: SAFS 403 Green Thumb Workshop In this course, students develop a deep appreciation for garden plants and and explore the many aesthetic, therapeutic, and culinary roles they play in enriching our surroundings and lives. ๐ฑ Green Thumb Workshop emphasizes hands-on learning of key horticultural skills and techniques, such as: ๐ฑ Garden design ๐ฑ Propagation ๐ฑ Pruning ๐ฑ Plant breeding ๐ฑ Plant problem diagnosis These skills are complemented by activities designed to bring the beauty and utility of plants to life, including: ๐ผ Flower arranging ๐ผ Botanical drawing ๐ผ Dyeing ๐ผ Tastings In the accompanying photos, students are engaged in a floral design activity, applying key design principles theyโve learnedโcolor, proportion, balance, space, and textureโto their floral arrangements. Simply put, this class offers enriching, hands-on learning experiences. Students even have the chance to gain insights from a seasoned bonsai expert this semester! Students share that they love hands-on learning. They tell us that once they learn about things in class, they then see the world differently โ and notice more about the plant life around them.
