Ever wondered how businesses use data to make decisions? 🐍💼 In today’s data-driven world, the ability to understand and leverage data is essential. Programming for Business (DS662) equips students with the tools to transform data into actionable insights, whether they’re new to coding or looking to expand their skills. Led by Senior Lecturer Maryann Clark, this course is tailored for business applications, guiding students through the essentials of Python programming. Each week, students dive into interactive coding activities designed to extract, analyze, and visualize real-world datasets. Key course objectives include: 🔹 Developing programming fundamentals, including logic, flow control, and functions 🔹 Working with Python libraries like Pandas to analyze business data 🔹 Cleaning, reshaping, and visualizing data to generate business insights 🔹 Applying coding skills to solve real-world business challenges A recent group project asked students to conduct product analysis using Python, where they calculated average ratings and identified trends, turning complex data into meaningful business solutions. Maryann fosters a hands-on learning environment, encouraging students to engage with authentic datasets and tackle real-world business problems. By the end of the semester, students are not only experienced in Python but also know how to apply it to solve business challenges and make data-driven decisions. In addition to coding projects, students participate in collaborative assignments and discussions on how data drives business success. They leave the course prepared to handle more advanced data analytics challenges and ready to contribute meaningfully to any organization. This course is just the beginning for students looking to make data-driven decisions in their future careers.
