The Stony Brook Moment is different for everyone. Here's how Connor Beierle found his. "My name is Connor Beierle. I'm studying Mechanical Engineering at Stony Brook, and I'm a junior. The reason I chose Stony Brook is because I knew I wanted to study engineering and I'd indentified Stony Brook as public school with the best engineering program in New York. Any student applying to college has to take into account any financial obligations they'd be putting themselves into, and the fact that Stony Brook is so affordable and has such a credible and fantastic, scientific school is a really appealing aspect for anyone applying to college. As a scientist, Stony Brook has provided me with the pillars and the foundation you need to interact with any scientist at a professional level. My internship last summer at NASA consisted of working on a rotorcraft. They're a type of rotorcraft that behaves as a helicopter and fixed wing plane. My work consisted of taking wind tunnel experiments, removing externalities that arrive due to the nature of the wind tunnel, and having that data be applicable to real flight. My Stony Brook moment was this last year when my rugby team made it to the playoffs. We finished in the top 8 teams in the country. It was after a year of a lot of practice and hard work. To reach that point in the national rankings and perform so well as a team was absolutely fantastic."
