In the midst of beautiful plants and flowers are the Remembrance Gardens. You will notice a sculpture that holds special meaning to the UK and Lexington community. The work, by sculptor Douwe Blumberg, is a memorial to the 49 lives lost in the plane crash of Flight 5191, a tragedy that occurred in Lexington in August 2006. The sculptor’s stated vision was “to create an appropriately powerful memorial and contemplative area within the garden itself.”
