Welcome to the University of South Dakota. We're South Dakota's flagship institution and the home of the Coyotes. We're the big-time university with a small-college feel. We ARE South Dakota and we're glad you're here.
My name is Maria and I'll be your tour guide.
Let's begin our tour at the heart of the USD campus at historic Old Main. The University's oldest building, Old Main was originally constructed in 1883. The building was destroyed by fire in 1893 and immediately rebuilt. An assortment of materials and adornments from the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. were used in the rebuilding, but not necessarily the iconic spires as often suggested by folklore.
The building was completely renovated in 1997 and now serves as the home to classrooms, the USD's honors program, Farber Hall and the Oscar Howe Gallery.
