Hiya! Welcome to the University of Nottingham – home to a global community of over 46,000 students from more than 150 countries.  

We’ve got loads for you to explore, including our accommodation, teaching and study spaces, and lots more. 

We’re starting at our historic Trent Building on University Park Campus, which overlooks the beautiful Highfields Boating Lake.

Accommodation

Whether you’d prefer to cook for yourself or live in catered accommodation, we have lots of different halls and room types for you to choose from across our campuses. We’ve got everything from single rooms and shared flats to en-suites and studios, so you’ll be able to find something that suits you. 

Some of our halls look over the huge wildflower meadow you see here called The Downs. It’s right in the middle of University Park Campus, so it’s a short walk from everything you need and is a great place to relax, hang out with your friends and have a picnic surrounded by nature.

Teaching and study spaces

Wind Tunnel - Department of Engineering - University Park Campus

This is our wind tunnel! It can reach speeds of up to 90 miles per hour,  which allows our engineering students to run all sorts of aerodynamic experiments.   

Have a look at our other teaching and study spaces like the Clinical Skills Centre and Archaeology Lab to find out more about our cutting-edge facilities.

You can also see our Monica Partridge Building, which is just one of many places across our campuses where you‘ll find space to study, either on your own or in a group.

Students' Union

Djanogly Terrace - Portland Building - University Park Campus

This is the Portland Building, which is home to the Students’ Union – an independent, student-led organisation that represents you. 

There are more than 200 societies, over 70 sports clubs and more than 100 volunteering opportunities here at the Uni of Nottingham, plus the only student-run theatre in England – so there’s plenty for you to get stuck into. 

Portland Building also has loads of things you might need like Student Services and the Careers and Employability Service, as well as shops and even a hairdressers. There are plenty of places to hang out with friends too, including cafes, a bar, and an international food court.

There’s so much to do on campus in between your studies! From scenic walks in the woods to mini golf and even boating on the lake in the summer, there’s so much to see and do in your free time.

You can even soak up some culture at Lakeside Arts right by the lake, where there’s always an exciting new exhibition, play or collection for you to enjoy.

Facilities

Music Recording Studio - University Park Campus

Nottingham has lots of incredible purpose-built facilities, such as the Music Recording Studio on University Park Campus. In here, we have professional recording equipment as well as a live-room which can be used to record a range of musicians, singers and small ensembles. 

When you study here, you’ll have access to some of the most cutting-edge equipment and facilities you could think of – from our STEM Teaching Laboratory and Digital Transformations Hub to our vibrant arts centre, Lakeside Arts.

Libraries

George Green Library - University Park Campus

This is the George Green Library on University Park Campus. It’s a great place to study because it’s so spacious and modern, and although it’s home to Science and Engineering resources it’s popular with all students. It also has a dedicated postgraduate study space, a leisure reading collection and a café.  

George Green is just one of eight libraries across our campuses, all of which offer a fantastic range of subject resources, study spaces, IT facilities and more. You can come here to get study support, access our extensive online collections or just relax with a book.

Nottingham City

Just 15 minutes away from campus is Old Market Square, the heart of Nottingham City and home to all sorts of events throughout the year including the unmissable Christmas market.    

There’s something for everyone in Nottingham, including your favourite restaurants and shops, independent boutiques, vegan cafes, international supermarkets, and so many bars and nightclubs to name but a few.

The city is home to fascinating historical landmarks as well, like the castle, National Justice Museum and ancient cave system.  

Nottingham also has great access to the rest of the country by bus, train and plane, as well as gorgeous countryside right on your doorstep.

Cripps Health Centre - University Park Campus

We’re lucky to have our very own health centre here on University Park Campus, where you can register with a doctor and easily access a range of other services. Cripps Health Centre has a dentists’ surgery, pharmacy and a variety of specialist clinics, such as physiotherapy, counselling and mental health support services. It’s actually the largest health centre of its kind in the UK – so you know you’ll be taken good care of. 

There are lots of other support services at Nottingham too, including our funding and financial support team and our very own careers team, who can help you choose placements, prepare for interviews and apply for jobs.

Sport

Health, fitness and wellbeing are a huge part of life here and we have a proud history of sporting success. 

There are sports facilities on all our campuses, including fitness suites, sports halls, 3G pitches and more. 

On University Park Campus, we’ve got the David Ross Sports Village – a world-class sports facility with a 200-station fitness suite, martial arts dojo, climbing wall, high-performance zone, and a 25m swimming pool.  

There are loads of opportunities to try new sports and get involved in a club or a team, whether you’re a pro-athlete already or just looking to make friends and have fun.

Let’s take some time out here at Portland Coffee, our cosy café in the heart of the Students’ Union.  

We’ve got plenty of other places to eat and drink too; you can get your caffeine fix at Starbucks, pick up fresh local produce at the monthly farmers’ market on Sutton Bonington Campus, and grab your groceries at Spar.   

There are lots of supermarkets close to our campuses as well, including Tesco’s, Lidl, Co-op and international shops like Asiana Supermarket.

Transport and getting around

It’s so easy to get around Nottingham. You can catch a hopper bus which will take you between campuses for free, jump on a local bus and be in the city centre in under 20 minutes, or get on your bike and make use of our city’s great cycle routes.  

There’s also the tram, which takes you into the city and right by the train station. From here you can travel to most places in England, including  London and our major airports.  

And because students get a discount on public transport, getting around is really affordable too.

Sutton Bonington Campus

This is The Barn, where students on Sutton Bonington Campus come to relax. It’s home to the Student’s Union, so there’s always something exciting going on in the bar or entertainment areas. There are also prayer rooms, Student Services and a Starbucks café, as well as lots of societies to get involved with.  

Sutton Bonington is home to the Schools of Biosciences, and Veterinary Medicine and Science. Its Student Village offers many self-catered accommodation options and an on-campus shop. There’s a great sense of community  here, with the student balls being a highlight of the year, and you can easily get here from other campuses on a free hopper bus.

Jubilee Campus

Jubilee Campus is home to lots of incredible architecture, such as the GlaxoSmithKline Carbon Neutral Chemistry Lab, the Advanced Manufacturing Building and the Centre for English Language Education.

The Djanogly Learning Resource Centre, known as the library on the lake, is a peaceful place to study on Jubilee Campus.   There’s also the Exchange Building where you’ll find lecture theatres, shops, a café and the Student Services Centre.  

With catered accommodation on campus and self-catered nearby, you’re never far away from your classes and friends. You can easily travel between campuses on the hopper bus or catch a local bus into the city.

University Park Campus

This is the Millennium Garden on University Park Campus - it’s the perfect place to sit and relax surrounded by nature.  

University Park Campus is our largest UK campus, with lots of accommodation halls, the David Ross Sports Village, Students’ Union and much more.  

You can catch the hopper bus to any other campus from University Park, and there are plenty of buses and trams to take you to the city centre too.

Hidden histories

Hugh Stewart Hall - University Park Campus

The University of Nottingham has a rich and enchanting history, and was actually built on the grounds of a Cluniac priory, founded in 1108 by Lord William Peveril.

Many of our buildings date all the way back to the 19th century, so you can hear echoes of the past in the wood-panelled libraries, stone staircases and historic halls.

And that’s not to mention the ancient trees, established gardens and secret spots hidden all around campus.    

Here you can see Hugh Stewart Hall, which is just one of the University's beautiful historic features, but there are loads more just waiting for you to explore...
