Welcome to the William Tamblyn Centennial Building, which is named after Lakehead University's founding president. The Centennial Courtyard showcases the natural beauty that surrounds campus. It is the perfect place to escape and get away from it all so you can focus on your studies while enjoying the scenic background of Lake Tamblyn. Within the Centennial Building, you will find the Mechanical, Chemical, and Civil Engineering departments as well as the departments of Biology, Chemistry, and Geology. Numerous engineering and science labs, including an Engineering Structures Lab, a wind tunnel simulations lab, Fire Testing Research Laboratory, and an Aquatic Toxicology Research lab for Biology students are all housed here. You will also find Engineering club rooms and the Formula race car research lab.

Student Central is Lakehead's one-stop location for a variety of student services. You can come here to seek support for everything from applying for admission, enrolling for courses, to securing financial aid, receiving academic advising, and so much more! Our Student Central Professionals are cross-trained in all of these areas to ensure we can help support you from start to finish. Student Central also features an expanded self-serve area equipped with computers and a printer/scanner, and plenty of online options for many of your academic transactions such as "Ask Lakehead," and "myInfo" - your portal to all your enrolment related needs.

We are standing in front the University Centre, which is the hub of campus and student life. Here you will find the university's administration and student services, as well as the Agora, which means "meeting place" in Greek. Throughout the year many events take place in the Agora, such as: Career and Employment Fairs, Student Research and Innovation exhibits, International Cultural Days, Lecture Series and local Vendor Days. The Agora also features a Starbucks, allowing you to grab a coffee or snack between classes or place to meet up with other students all right in the heart of the campus. Just down the hall from the Agora, you will also find Aboriginal Cultural & Support Services as well as Campus Security.

Here we have the centre of academic life: The Chancellor Paterson Library. The library houses a collection of over half-a-million books, more than forty-four thousand print and electronic journal subscriptions, almost a million microform volumes, and extensive Archives and Special Collections. On the main floor of this five-storey building is the Learning Commons, which fosters collaborative and social learning. This area features quiet and group study areas, library services, Math and Writing Support Centres and access to computers and printers. A trendy Starbucks café serving hot and cold beverages, along with an à la carte bistro means that you can refuel during your study sessions.

The Ryan Building, named in memory of Dean Tim Ryan, houses the departments of Business, English, History, Philosophy, Sociology, Political Science, Math, and Women's Studies. The Ryan Building has a variety of classrooms ranging from a larger lecture theatre, holding approximately 250 students, to smaller seminar rooms, case rooms, and study rooms. This is the Advanced Technology & Academic Centre or ATAC. It is a high-tech teaching and learning centre that provides 1,400 student spaces and integrates advanced technology and smart communications into the learning environment. The building contains numerous classrooms, multimedia production and teaching services, enhanced distance education facilities, computer teaching and research labs, and a High-Performance Virtual Reality Room. ATAC features immersive Telepresence Classrooms that provide high-quality, alternative options for attending classes, meetings, and conferences. Lakehead's School of Nursing is located in the Olga Merz School of Nursing building. Our Nursing program fosters supportive hands-on learning environments that combine the study of human sciences and psychology with nursing theory, laboratory and clinical practice. At Lakehead, clinical practice is an integral part of our program and starts right in first year. You will also experience cutting-edge knowledge, as faculty and staff incorporate examples of their latest research into the classroom. As a unique part of the program, in fourth year, you can arrange clinical experiences in many different places around the world. The Northern Ontario School of Medicine, or NOSM, welcomed its first class of doctor of medicine students in 2005, and became the first new medical school in Canada in over 30 years. This facility houses smart classrooms, a comprehensive medical library, state-of-the-art research areas and medical research laboratories. Rather than taking an off-the-shelf approach to delivering health professional programs modeled after traditional methods, NOSM has developed innovative education strategies to meet the needs of all patients. It's world-renowned for its community-engaged, socially accountable medical education and research that produces highly sought-after physicians, residents, physician assistants, dietitians and other healthcare professionals. This is the Braun Building, and it was the very first building on campus. The Braun Building is home to the departments of Natural Resources Management, Anthropology, and Languages. Typical to Lakehead University, this building contains two central lecture theatres that seat up to 100 students. These theatres are surrounded by dozens of smaller classrooms that encourage student-to-professor interaction. At Lakehead University, you will find that as you progress through your program, your classes will become much smaller and more specialized within the upper years. While a first year Introduction to Anthropology course may have as many as 100 students, your 4th year Advanced Forensics course may have as few as 12.

Many of our buildings on campus are interconnected by an underground heated tunnel system. This is a great way to get to and from all of your classes in the winter months, or for a quick shortcut. We are now here at the junction that connects 6 separate buildings. The Outpost

The Outpost is an on-campus restaurant and concert venue that is owned and operated by the Lakehead University Student Union. With two levels and over 10,000 square feet, The Outpost is one of Canada's largest facilities of its kind. Featuring a full-service restaurant, the Outpost caters to all food preferences and dietary restrictions, including many options for Gluten-Free, Lactose-Free, Vegan, and Halal – to name a few! Evening programming has something for everyone to enjoy, from the sports fanatics to those who love to dance. One of the most unique things about The Outpost is that all revenue goes directly back to the Student Union which helps to provide students with the best university experience possible. The Outpost is also one of the largest employers of students on campus. It also is home to a Booster Juice outlet as well!

The Lakehead University Bookstore carries all of the prescribed textbooks, support materials and supplies for your courses, as well as a wide range of magazines and general interest books. Books are all categorized by program, which makes it easy to navigate. The Bookstore also sells used textbooks and holds a "book buy back" twice a year so that students can sell their old textbooks back to the Bookstore. You can also find a large selection of quality Lakehead University branded clothing, gifts, and personal items. All profits at the bookstore go towards our generous student scholarship and bursary program.

Welcome to the residence cafeteria: open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Access to this cafeteria is included with your first year meal-plan, and features an all-you-can-eat service with many different menu options that cater to all dietary needs. Welcome to Residence! This is Bartley Residence, which is where most first year students will call home. Bartley is nestled along the McIntyre River and is divided into a series of nine houses connected by a common hallway. Each house is equipped with a TV lounge, study room, separate male and female washrooms, sports equipment storage, laundry facilities and a shared outdoor bicycle shelter. Residence is guaranteed to all direct from high-school students, and includes an all-you-can-eat meal plan. A spectacular park-like setting is situated behind the residence, which is a perfect spot to enjoy the outdoors, study, or take part in all of the great Residence Life programming.

This is our Apartment Village which houses primarily upper-year and international students. Each of our fully-furnished apartment units features four bedrooms in addition to a shared, fully-equipped kitchen, living space, dining area, and two bathrooms. There are two late-night diners and various recreational spaces including beach-volleyball, tennis, and basketball courts, and a skating rink in residence. All of our residence options are located mere footsteps from the University Centre. Imagine getting up each morning and being able to walk to class within only a few minutes. Here at Lakehead you will embrace the fact that you cannot go home every weekend, so residence truly becomes your home away from home.

A few steps away from residence, you will enjoy extensive on-campus fitness facilities that are free to all full-time students. The Hangar is a 50,000 square-foot multi-purpose athletics centre which features a sports medicine clinic, a 200-metre track, pro-grade artificial turf field, and fully-equipped weight training, aerobic and cardio areas. The Fieldhouse contains the Thunderdome Basketball stadium, an additional weight training facility, an eight-lane swimming pool, cardio rooms, outdoor sports fields, beach volleyball courts, a yoga studio, and full change-rooms with saunas. The building also houses our School of Kinesiology. As a Kinesiology student, you have the unique opportunity to engage in an environment of small-class sizes with unparalleled access to hands-on training and lab experience.

Located off-campus in Thunder Bay's historic downtown core, the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law is housed in the beautiful PACI building overlooking Lake Superior, the world's largest freshwater lake. Classes are small so you will be given hands-on opportunities to apply your learning. Emphasis is placed on legal skill training, including: written and oral communication, legal research, drafting, negotiation, interviewing and trial advocacy. Our goal is to develop students with leadership and critical thinking abilities who are aware of the social and ethical responsibilities of the legal profession. Lakehead is also the first law school in Canada to have an integrated practice curriculum, so our students are eligible for licensing right after graduation.
