Welcome to the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, in Oshawa, Ontario! UOIT first opened its doors to 947 students in September of 2003. Today, nearly 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students are enrolled at UOIT. My name is Amber, and I'll be one of your tour guides. Currently, you are in Polonsky Commons, the hub of student activity at our North Oshawa location. Now, before we begin, let me explain to you how to navigate through campus. Science Building

The Science Building is where you'll attend lectures and tutorials. If you're in the faculties of Science or Health Sciences, this is where you'll find your professors, teaching assistants and academic advisors if you have questions or need any extra help. The building also features innovative research facilities such as the Aquatic Toxicology Lab, a 20,000-litre wet lab. After class or a tutorial, you can meet up with your friends at the Tim Hortons, one of the five locations available on campus.

Business and Information Technology Building

Welcome to the Business and Information Technology Building. This building houses the UB Cafeteria, which offers many food options such as pizza, stir fry and salads. It's a great place to study and catch up with friends. You'll also attend lectures and work in labs here. This building – along with many others, has environmentally friendly features, such as a green roof with native plants from the area. Our buildings are actually heated and cooled with a geothermal well system located underneath Polonsky Commons.

The Energy Systems and Nuclear Science Research Centre is home to multiple laboratories exploring clean and renewable energy technologies such as solar, wind, hydrogen, geothermal and nuclear. Here students gain valuable hands-on experience that is sought after by industry partners. If you're enrolled in Energy Systems and Nuclear Science, this is where you will attend lectures and labs. Our award-winning North Oshawa Library is where many students spend their time on campus. Here you will find dedicated space for silent reading as well as group meeting rooms that you can reserve online. As you can see, there many books, periodicals, and journals available, but that only represents some of the library's collection. More than 60% of the library's resources can be found online at the Library website – which means you can access books and journals, anywhere, anytime. Stop by the Starbucks on your way to class or head up to our two-story fireside reading room to relax.

The Ontario Power Generation Engineering Building is home to 17 industry-standard laboratories filled with state-of-the-art equipment for practical learning. 3D printers and a scale-version CANDU reactor are examples of this innovative technology. In each of the labs, you'll use the professional software on your laptops to complete your work.

ACE – the Automotive Centre of Excellence - is home to one of North America's largest climatic wind tunnels. This space can hold equipment the size of a bus and simulate weather conditions such as rain, snow, hail, extreme temperatures, humidity and wind. Hi, my name is Shantel, and I'm going to take you through the rest of the tour of the North Oshawa Location. The Campus Ice Centre has two NHL-sized ice pads and a sports pro shop. You can enjoy free ice skating or join a hockey league. You'll also find one of our campus pubs here – Shagwell's on the Ridge. The Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre includes five gyms, squash courts, a 200 metre indoor running track, the FLEX centre and training rooms. You can also join an intramural league. Here at the Campus Health Centre, you have access to doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, massage therapists, chiropractors and a nutritionist. We also have a full-service pharmacy.

Welcome to South Village Residence. Each suite features two separate bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchenette. The bathroom and kitchenette area are cleaned every other week for your convenience. Residence is guaranteed for every first-year student as long as you apply by the deadline. Attached to the residence is the Fresh Food Company, an all-you-can eat buffet. There's a wide variety of items to suit every nutritional need and lifestyle including vegetarian selections, halal choices and a wide variety of cuisines from around the world.

The Simcoe Village Residence has three distinct halls. The suites in North Hall have two separate bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchenette. The suites in Central and South Hall have two beds, a bathroom and a kitchenette. This residence also features a movie room, a dance room, a communal kitchen and lots of study space.

The bus loop is the main stop on campus for city and GO buses. If you're a full-time student, you'll receive a U-Pass which will give you unlimited access to Durham Region Transit and select GO bus routes. It's a short bus ride between our north and downtown locations.
