Founded in 1977 as the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, WesternU has grown to be one of the most comprehensive graduate schools for the health professions in the country. Today, eight colleges and 27 programs prepare our students to be leaders across the health professions. Our founding mission, which combined a commitment to scientific excellence with a humanistic, compassionate approach to patient care, still resonates today. At WesternU, the needs of our students are our first priority. Standing on the edge of Centennial Park, we see some important resources, including the Student Services Center and the Pumerantz Learning Center, named after our founder, the late Philip Pumerantz. In the PLC, the Pumerantz Library serves as a partner in learning, research, and clinical practice for students and faculty, while LEAD—short for Learning Enhancement & Academic Development—offers academic counseling, tutoring, and workshops to help students thrive academically and personally. Financial Aid and University Student Affairs are housed in the Student Services Center. Other campus amenities include a new campus gym and modern, well-equipped study spaces.

Dynamic, hands-on learning experiences are a hallmark of a WesternU education. The Health Sciences Center is home to state-of-the-art facilities that make these experiences possible. The Nursing Simulation Center, outfitted with high-fidelity manikins, simulators, and clinical equipment, provides students with an experiential learning hub where they put new skills and knowledge into action during simulated patient care scenarios. Essential skills are also applied and honed in the Physical Therapy Skills Lab, the Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Lab, Anatomy Lab, and the Gait Lab, all located right here in the Health Sciences Center.

Standing here in the lobby of our Veterinary Medicine Center, you can look out and see facilities serving students in nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, osteopathic medicine, and more. Our innovative Interprofessional Education curriculum brings students from across the university together for collaborative learning that prepares them to work as part of a patient-centered interdisciplinary care team. Students from different disciplines work together on patient care scenarios, building critical skills in collaborative problem-solving that will serve them for the rest of their careers.

The Health Education Center showcases many of the things that make WesternU such an outstanding place to learn and advance your career. Research labs, well-equipped lecture halls, small group learning rooms that support our Interprofessional Education program, as well as the dental simulation lab and the vision skills lab, are all housed here. The 180,000 square foot building was built as part of a $100-million campus expansion in 2010 and today serves as a center for impactful real-world research, hands-on learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and more.
