This is the Welcome Center located in Taylor Hall, where prospective students come to learn more about Western and from where campus tours depart. Admissions is just down the hall, and you can access the rest of the building from here, including all of our student affairs offices on the 3rd floor.

University Center

The University Center is our student hub on campus, where various student groups and resources have their offices, including our LEAD office, Student Government Association, EPIC Mentors, the Multicultural Center and Wilderness Pursuits. You will find the campus bookstore here, as well as your on-campus mailbox. The Rare Air Café dining hall is located upstairs for all students with meal plans. Mad Jack's–an alternative option to the dining hall–is located here, too.

Ute Hall

One of our freshmen residence halls is Ute Hall, where rooms have built-in closets and wood floors. Each co-ed floor has recently renovated men's and women's bathrooms, community lounges and a computer lab. Resident Assistants are available on each floor for any and all health/safety needs. Western does have a two-year live on campus requirement; second-year students have the option of apartment-style living.

Mountaineer Field House

The Mountaineer Fieldhouse is home to the highest collegiate 200-meter indoor running track, a 45-and-a-half-foot tall rock-climbing wall, a weight room, three multipurpose exercise rooms, three multipurpose courts, and a foam pit with a trampoline. Also attached to this building is the Aquatic Center and Paul Wright Gymnasium. Upstairs there are classrooms for the Recreation & Outdoor Education program, the Exercise & Sport Science program and the Master's in High-Altitude Exercise Physiology program. The most unique feature is The High-Altitude Performance Lab where students can get hands-on experience with state-of-the-art exercise testing equipment.

Mountaineer Bowl

The Mountaineer Bowl was completed in 1948 and is home to both the football and track & field teams. It is the highest collegiate stadium in the world, sitting 7,750 feet above sea level. The bowl overlooks the Gunnison Valley toward the Curecanti National Recreation Area with views of several of Colorado's 14er's (mountain peaks higher than 14,000 feet). The stadium can hold 4,000 fans and can accommodate several thousand more on the surrounding hillsides.

Leslie J. Savage Library

Students have access to PC and Mac computers in the library, along with a variety of study rooms. The library has access to materials and electronic resources from all around the world that are available 24/7, 365 days a year. The West Wing, often referred to as the "Harry Potter room," is the oldest part of the library and a great place for quiet studying. The lower level houses the Women's Student Lounge, the Writing Center, Career Services and the Peer Academic Leaders.

Borick Business Building

The School of Business houses majors in Business Administration, Accounting and Economics. Emphases within Business Administration include Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Resort Management, Finance, Sales and Energy Management. The School of Business has their own Office of Career Success, which assists students with resumes and internship opportunities along with hosting Career Days and Career Fairs on campus.

Quigley Hall

Quigley was completely renovated in the Fall of 2016. This building houses the Art and Music programs where you can receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a Bachelor of Arts in Art, a Bachelor of Arts in Music or a Masters in Gallery Management. The building has all brand-new equipment and facilities, a concert hall, an art gallery, a photography lab, printing studios, a recording studio and rehearsal space. It even has a wood shop and metal working studio.

Hurst Hall

This building is home to the Natural and Environmental Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science. There are classrooms and labs for instruction in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics, Geology, Anthropology, Mathematics and Computer Science. The Math Tutoring Center is in Hurst and is available free to all students. There are also numerous opportunities for field work in the Gunnison Valley through these various disciplines for students to gain hands-on experience.

Taylor Hall

Taylor Hall was the original building on campus in 1911. Today, it houses the Communication Arts, Languages and Literature Departments. Areas of study include Film, Theatre and Performance, Strategic Communication, English Literature, Creative Writing, Spanish and Philosophy. This large building is home to the Academic Resource Center, Financial Aid Office, Cashier's Office, Academic and Student Affairs and the President's office–all located on the third floor. Information Technology Services can also be found on the first floor for all your computer and tech questions, as can our on-campus radio station, KWSB.

Kelley Hall

This is one of the LEED Gold Certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) buildings on campus. Kelley houses the Behavioral and Social Sciences Departments. The majors in these departments include History, Politics & Government, Psychology, Sociology and Geography. The west side of the building houses the School of Environment and Sustainability.

Hartman Rocks

Hartman Rocks is a large trail system just five miles away from campus. There are over 8,000 acres of BLM, Gunnison County and City of Gunnison operated land. Activities at Hartman's include mountain biking, dirt biking, rock climbing, cross-country skiing, hiking, trail running and camping. There are forty miles of single-track trails and thirty-three miles of road waiting to be explored.

Downtown Gunnison

Downtown Gunnison offers a variety of fun things to do. There are a lot of dining options with restaurants offering American, Asian, Nepalese, Italian, Mexican food and more. Take some time to study or relax with friends in a variety of coffee shops. Also scattered along Main Street are various shops and boutiques unique to Gunnison and worth checking out.

Gunnison Valley RTA offers a free bus that takes you to and from Mt. Crested Butte, making several stops throughout Gunnison, Crested Butte South and Crested Butte along the way. There is a bus stop right on campus, located on the west side near the Pinnacles Apartments. The bus schedule is easily accessible online or via the Transit app for smartphones.

Elk Avenue is the main street of Crested Butte, a 35-minute drive from campus. Drive (or take the bus!) to Mt. Crested Butte for more mountain biking, hiking, camping, skiing and snowboarding. After your adventures, check out one of the many awesome and unique restaurants, cafes, galleries and shops in town.

Crested Butte Mountain Resort

Crested Butte Mountain Resort is the ski and bike resort three miles north of the Town of Crested Butte. In the winter, the resort has 121 trails and 1,547 skiable acres—including some of the most extreme in-bound terrain in the country. In the summer, there are 32 trails and over 30 miles of single-track for biking and hiking. There are also several restaurants and shops located at the base area.
