Solem Solar is one of Mexico’s first and largest solar power projects to be built following Mexico’s energy sector reform and long-term auctions. The project, in the central state of Aguascalientes, will generate low-priced solar power to feed into the national grid.

Prior to financing the Solem project, IFC had helped the Mexican government design and implement energy reform based on best practices in other markets, facilitating increased private-sector investment in the renewable energy sector.

Other financiers include the Inter-American Development Bank, the Canadian Climate Fund for the Private Sector in the Americas, the China Co-Financing Fund for Latin America & the Caribbean, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, and the Mexican state institutions Bancomext and Banobras.
