NASA/Space Center Houston

Space Center Houston is the NASA Johnson Space Center's official visitor center, and is home to exhibits detailing space exploration, a restored Saturn V rocket, and Independence Plaza – a replica of the Independence shuttle mounted on an original NASA 905 shuttle carrier. Visitors can enter the shuttle replica and plane to learn about the historic shuttle era and its impact on current and future exploration. The Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory is an astronaut training facility and neutral buoyancy pool operated by NASA. As the largest indoor body of water in the world, it holds 6.2 million gallons of water, and allows training astronauts to simulate the microgravity that they experience during spaceflight while working on a life-size mock ups of ISS components.

Art Car Parade

The Houston Art Car Parade is one of the most unique Houston annual events. As the largest Art Car Parade in the world, over 250 decorated motorized and human-powered vehicles including cars, bicycles, lawnmowers, and more, drive through Downtown Houston every April. Most of the "creatures" are created in Texas, though some art cars travel from other states and even Canada or Mexico! Nearly 300,000 people attend the parade each year, enjoying watching the fantastical creations pass by, each one more elaborate than the last; it's definitely a sight not to miss!

Museum District

The Houston Museum District is located south of Downtown Houston, and is made up of 19 museums all within walking distance of each other. Roam the Paleontology Hall at the Museum of Natural Science, discover works of art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and see the gorillas, giraffes, and elephants at the Houston Zoo. Or discover the fascinating history of buffalo soldiers at the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum, see what the inside of a body really looks like at the Health Museum or entertain your kids at the Children's Museum of Houston. If you need some outside time, beautiful Hermann Park is just steps away!

Discovery Green

Discovery Green is a 12 acre green space in the Downtown Houston Convention District. It's a great place to relax, grab a bite, and enjoy the view. With exhibits and activities all year long, Discovery Green stays lively no matter the month. In the winter, the small lake is transformed into an ice-skating rink and hot chocolate is served close by. During the summer, enjoy yoga and other fitness classes on the lawn, attend a free concert, or even watch a movie on the green.

Avenida Houston

Avenida Houston is the city's newest entertainment district. The pedestrian-friendly plaza runs for five blocks connecting two iconic Houston destinations: the George R. Brown Convention Center and Discovery Green Park. The campus includes the Marriott Marquis and Hilton-Americas hotels, along with several restaurants to satisfy your taste buds, from Italian to seafood. The cultural landscape is expanded with two monumental sculptures: Soaring in the Clouds and Wings Over Water in the Fountain of Americas. Enjoy live music, dance and other fun family activities. Market Square Park

Market Square Park is located right in the center of Downtown Houston's Historic District. Grab a snack at Houston's beloved Niko Niko's, and enjoy the outdoors at this gem of a park. Venture across the street to Treebeard's and take a picture of the Houston is Inspired mural, painted by one of Houston's graffiti artists, Gonzo247. See if you can spot the outline of a butterfly, spreading its wings and ready to take on flight.

Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park

Easily one of the most recognizable landmarks in The Galleria neighborhood, the Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park is opposite of the Williams Tower. The Waterwall stands at 64 feet tall, and is shaped like a horseshoe. As the water cascades down, the Waterwall recycles 78,500 gallons every three hours and two minutes. Don't miss an opportunity to stand in the middle of the horseshoe during your visit! Between the Waterwall and the Williams Tower, take a break from shopping and relax at the park. The Waterwall and this park are popular spots for photography.
