Welcome to the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto. The environment where our students learn and congregate is as unique as our program offerings. The Daniels Building at 1 Spadina Crescent is a bold work of architecture and landscape situated between the St. George campus and the vibrant centre of Toronto. Across Spadina Crescent, you'll find the North and South Borden buildings, home to our visual studies programs, and the Earth Sciences Centre, HQ for forestry studies. Together, our buildings house a range of cutting-edge learning and research spaces—from classrooms, studios, labs and green roofs to galleries and lecture halls. In the Eberhard Zeidler Library, you’ll find study spaces and a dedicated section for the Faculty’s rare book collection. The Daniels Faculty is an unparalleled centre for learning and research, offering graduate programs in architecture, landscape architecture, forestry, urban design, and visual studies. At the undergraduate level, we offer an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in two program areas: Architectural Studies and Visual Studies. Regardless of program, all students have the opportunity to learn from exceptional designers, researchers, and artists. Our faculty include members of local and international design communities who are pushing the boundaries of their practices and creating innovative solutions to challenges facing cities, landscapes, and communities.

Each year, the Daniels Faculty presents public lectures and conferences that showcase leaders in our diverse fields and address pressing issues. Located in the heart of Toronto—a hub for creative practice and home to many of Canada’s leading artists, curators, architects, landscape architects, urban designers and foresters—our community is incredibly cosmopolitan, hailing from every part of the world and producing work that crosses all sorts of geographic and cultural boundaries. The city’s multicultural networks and international connections make the Daniels Faculty a powerful place to start a career.

A combined 30,000 square feet are devoted to 21st-century design studios where undergraduate and graduate students engage in project-based learning. These versatile spaces occupy the north side of the building’s second and third floors—offering students expansive views of the surrounding urban landscape. An important feature of undergraduate education at the Daniels Faculty is our focus on design and studio practice. While the disciplines of architecture and art are understood to be distinct, we take advantage of the symbiotic relationship between them by offering a series of first-year courses that students in both Architectural Studies and Visual Studies are encouraged to take.

At Daniels, we recognize the symbiotic relationship between architecture, art, and science—a synergy that provides the foundation for our unique curricula and inspires creative interdisciplinary collaboration. Our state-of-the-art Digital Fabrication Laboratory offers a variety of computationally controlled technologies, including large three-axis and four-axis CNC, a waterjet cutter, 3D printers, and laser cutters. And with a supervised woodshop and metal shop on site, Daniels students have access to a wide array of resources, materials, and support needed to bring their projects to life.

Everyday access to the Daniels Building occurs along this east-west “main street” that runs through the centre of the building. The Commons is lined with student lockers and connects major amenities, including our galleries, the student-run café, Main Hall, the *Eberhard Zeidler* Library, and the student services office—the first stop for academic, financial, personal and general advising.
