Hi. I'm excited to show you the UMHS campus on Saint Kitts. These buildings contain all of the resources you'll need to succeed in the basic science portion of medical school. As we continue our tour, you'll see that UMHS has the very latest in medical education technology. For example, you'll get to practice on Human Simulators that mimic dozens of diseases and injuries. And be prepared to be impressed by our state-of-the-art Anatomy Lab. But what really sets UMHS apart from most medical schools are our small class sizes and dedicated faculty. The Anatomy Lab at UMHS is unlike most anatomy labs in the United States. While students at other international medical schools often have to crowd around just a handful of cadavers, at UMHS, there are 20 tables – allowing for small groups of no more than 6 students per cadaver. High resolution cameras and monitors enable students in every part of the lab to clearly see even the smallest structures the professor is referencing…and to follow along at their tables. Many students say that the anatomy lab is one of their favorite facilities at the school.

The faculty at UMHS love to teach. Skilled and credentialed educators - with backgrounds in medical education, research, and administration - they pride themselves on being available to UMHS students inside and outside of the classroom. They create a nurturing learning environment catering to the individual needs of students. Here's another high-tech, high-access educational facility. The Research Lab provides specialized opportunities for individual growth. Students can work with faculty to develop their own research projects in a variety of subject areas – a great way to explore your scientific interests while also improving your CV for residency applications!

This is our student lounge. A great place to relax between classes, participate in a small study group or even meet with a faculty member to review material. When comparing UMHS to other medical schools, one difference you'll notice is the cohesiveness of the student body. Our students realize very early on that through collaboration and caring support of one another, their chances for success increase exponentially. Becoming a doctor is extremely difficult, yet you can take comfort knowing that as a student at UMHS, you won't be on this journey alone. Patients – simulated and human – are a key part of medical education. The Simulation Laboratory Virtual Hospital is fully equipped with both high and low fidelity simulators including I-Stan and Harvey, programmed to present the signs of virtually any illness. This is where students really put their learning to the test: taking vitals and diagnosing symptoms, all under the supervision of our outstanding faculty. But UMHS goes beyond simulators. Students also interact with live "professional" patients modelling various medical problems. And they learn to use cutting edge diagnostic tools – like ultrasound. This lab gives real world, hands-on experience – with no risk. That's why our students find themselves on par, and often ahead of their U.S. peers when starting clinical rotations.

We work hard on the UMHS campus. But when it's time to take a break, there are great facilities and activities to enjoy. At UMHS, classroom technology brings the teaching directly to each student. The latest in LCD projectors, high def monitors and software, including ELMO and SYMPODIUM, enhance the learning experience. Images from anatomical models, projection microscopes, as well as from our extensive database of slides and specially designed lab manuals are easily viewable by everyone in the classroom. When it comes to dynamic teaching environments, UMHS is outstanding.

The Anne Ross Library and Learning Resource Center, the LRC, is designed to provide students with a peaceful, empowering atmosphere. Everything here is conducive to learning, in whatever way suits you best. There's lots of space to study individually, and break-out rooms for when you want to work with a group. You'll find computers and audio-visual equipment to meet every kind of viewing and listening need. The LRC is equipped with 60 computers for students to access educational programs, software, online databases, email, and other educational resources…including the library's impressive collection of multimedia, books and journals in both hard copy and digital formats. "The "Tent" is the hub of campus activity...where students meet throughout the day to socialize, to eat and to study. You might see a popup fair for student organizations and clubs, or an outreach clinic to deliver free health screenings to the people of Saint Kitts. And just like everywhere else on campus, students here have access to our state-of-the-art, cloud-based Learning Management System. In fact, LMS is available almost anywhere in the world, providing students with lectures, reading assignments, important announcements, and much more. Want to review a PowerPoint over lunch? Just sign on and you're good to go. And by the way, the lunch options here are great!
