Welcome to the Texas Tech University J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual and Performing Arts, or, as insiders call it, the TCVPA. Since its formation in 2002, the TCVPA has maintained the highest standards in education, research, and production. It incorporates three Schools‚ The School of Art, The School of Music, and the School of Theatre and Dance ‚ each of which offers a series of programs that ground students in traditional methods and promote innovation and experimentation, all with the guidance of world-class faculty and staff. At the core of the College's mission is the student body: diverse in background, abilities, and needs, it is the driving force behind the over 800 College-sponsored performances and exhibitions you can experience in any given year. Here we are at a dress rehearsal at the Maedgen Theatre, the flagship facility in the School of Theatre and Dance. This almost 400-seat proscenium theatre hosts several mainstage theatre productions, including musicals, classics, and contemporary comedies and dramas, as well as dance recitals featuring everything from hip-hop to ballet. The space has numerous amenities designed to maximize production value and expose students to state-of-the-art technology, including high-quality lighting and sound equipment, an extensive fly system, a workshop packed with tools, and a front of stage that can be raised and lowered as needed. Look out for audition announcements: you could end up treading these boards yourself!

This is the Laboratory Theatre, one of the School of Theatre and Dance's most frequently used facilities. The intimate thrust stage sets this theatre apart as a truly unique space. It makes for a challenging and invigorating arena in which to act, direct, and design; no wonder it has housed some of the School's most innovative work. The Lab hosts many student-written and directed productions, including graduate theses and dissertation projects, as well as festivals of new plays and student-choreographed dance pieces. Finally, it serves as a classroom for many students, so expect to spend plenty of time in here if you pursue a degree in Theatre!

The newest building in the College's constellation of spaces is the Creative Movement Studio, or CMS, home to the University's Dance program. The CMS actually encompasses two full-size studios. This is the larger of the two at 3,500 square feet; it is outfitted with a state-of-the-art sprung wood floor and also doubles as a theatrical space complete with bleachers and chairs, curtains, a wall-length mirror, lighting instruments, and an excellent sound system. In addition, the CMS has a large, "smart" classroom and several offices to house the Dance faculty. You'll be spending plenty of time here if you come to school looking to cut a rug!

This is the Hemmle Recital Hall, the center of performance activity in the School of Music. One of the first things you might notice is the impressive Holtkamp pipe organ, which sports an astonishing 4,469 pipes and is one of the School of Music's most prized possessions. The Hall hosts over 250 performances annually. These performances include solo recitals, chamber music events, large ensemble performances and countless special events such as the University Symphony Orchestra's annual Halloween Hauntcert and the annual Carol of Lights Choral concert.

This Hall serves as the main rehearsal space for all of the School of Music's various bands and other instrumental music ensembles. These include the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the Symphonic Band, the Concert Band, two University Bands, and multiple Jazz, percussion, brass and woodwind ensembles. Like almost all the spaces in the School of Music, it is in use continually from early morning to late at night.

The University Choir, the Women's Chorale, and the men of the Matador Singers are just a few of the choral ensembles that call this Rehearsal Hall their home. The ample space allows for plenty of voices to gather in one place and rehearse their music with the help of fine accompanists and world class instruction. The hall is also used for rehearsal of vocal chamber groups, opera and music theater. If you enjoy singing you are encouraged to audition for a place in any of our fine choral ensembles. All choirs are open to everyone on campus and there is a place for you. Come join us!

Welcome to the Band Practice Field. It may seem like simple tarmac and lines, but it fulfils a very important purpose in addition to serving as a parking lot during classes and performances in the School of Music: it also plays host to rehearsals for the world-renowned Goin' Band from Raiderland. The Goin' Band has some 400 members drawn from students all over the campus, all under the instruction of an expert team of directors and students leaders. You don't have to be a Music major or minor to join. In fact, students from over 80 different undergraduate majors from across campus are members of the Goin' Band from Raiderland.

This is the Landmark Gallery located on the east side of the Art building. This gallery may just play host to more unique and vivid content than any other space on campus in a given year. World famous collections, works from noted alumni, interdisciplinary collaborations, the projects of TTU's own top-notch students – all of it passes through the Landmark Gallery, and all of it is open to the public. The exhibition you see now is "Why Are You Doing This to Me?" a collaboration between visual artist and TTU alumnus Philip Monaghan and poet David Trinidad. Who knows – maybe we'll be seeing your work up there soon!

Welcome to the 3D Art annex, which houses the 3D disciplines of sculpture, jewelry, metalsmithing and ceramics. The building-a $9 million project- is outfitted with an impressive collection of multiple full-sized studios, support rooms, and classrooms, all exciting and flexible spaces which dynamically contribute to an effective learning environment. Each area of study is supported by top-of-the-line tools and technology, not to mention experienced and skillful faculty. This allows students to fully realize even their most daring visions in virtually any medium. Trust me, you'll be happy to get your hands dirty if you end up working here! And with that, our tour is done – all that's left is for you to come experience it all for yourself as an official Red Raider. This is where great artists are born, because remember: from here, it's possible.

This is the Academic Classroom Building Lobby in the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (or “TTUHSC”). A musical performance here may seem out of place, but is really part of an exciting new program, the College’s Arts Initiative in Medicine, or “AIM.” This innovative program encourages College and TTUHSC faculty and students to collaborate on interdisciplinary research, arts-in-medicine curriculum development and arts in the medical environment. Arts-in-Medicine programs are a growing trend and the College wants to stay on the cutting edge of that trend. Just goes to show that the College takes the healing power of the arts very seriously!

Welcome to Ervin Elementary, one of the schools served by the East Lubbock Promise Neighborhood Grant, a $24.5 million project from the U.S. Department of Education. The College has been a critical component of ELPN and has been offering a variety of arts education programs through the Grant across East Lubbock since 2013. Here, students from Kindergarten on up are exposed to a variety of art forms and encouraged to make art that speaks to their own experiences. Community engagement is a high priority for the College, so be on the lookout for opportunities to take your work – and your education – beyond the campus grounds!
