Founded in 1780, Transylvania University has been in existence longer than Kentucky has even been a state! Four centuries ago, this university was viewed as a model for higher-learning, and this legacy has persisted into present times. Today, TU is lauded as one of the nation's top liberal arts colleges, and is known for its friendly campus, community garden, curious museum collection, and even a charming spot called the Kissing Tree. J. Douglas Gay Jr. Library

The J. Douglas Gay Jr. Library, also known as the Fraces Carrick Thomas Library is TU's window to independent study and research. The building features a number of group study rooms, media rooms, and computer labs, to help enrich the university's multi-faceted liberal arts pedagogy. Students also have access to the library's rare book room, and hands-on Technology Learning Center, demonstrating the university's unique union of history and advancement.

Glenn Building

If you decide to visit TU, the Glenn Building will be one of your first stops, and a welcoming point of introduction. You can come here to speak to an admissions officer, schedule a tour, check out the building's interactive campus map, or even just get a feel for the university by having a coffee at the Jazzman Cafe. Current students also frequent the Glenn Building to have meetings, take a break, or study between classes.

Old Morrison

Built in the 1830s, Old Morrison is a Registered National Historic Landmark, known as an integral structure of early American history. Today, the building serves as a center for administrative offices, including the offices of the president and deans, the Computing Center, and Human Resources and Financial Aid. Old Morrison also contains an inviting chapel, and a sprawling lawn, which often hosts concerts by the Lexington Philharmonic.

Cowgill Center for Business, Economics, and Education

The Cowgill Center for Business, Economics, and Education is a striking Georgian-style building on the southeast end of campus. Students supplement their educations with access to the Cowgill Center's computer lab, lecture halls, and technically-advanced multi-media classroom. The building's lower level is home to the Monroe Moosnick Medical & Science Museum, which contains a number of very rare 19th century scientific artifacts, botanic illustrations, and anatomic models.

Mitchell Fine Arts Center

Not only does the Mitchell Fine Arts Center provide a rich learning environment for students in the university's creative arts departments, but it also invites students and community members with all backgrounds to witness theatrical and musical performances year round. The building includes a large auditorium, theatre, recital hall, and gallery space, to encourage expression and subjective interpretation amongst the TU community. The Fine Arts Center is also home to the university's Career Development Center, study and lounge areas, and a popular grill to pick up a meal between classes.

Clive M. Beck Athletic and Recreation Center

The 97,000 square foot Clive Beck Athletic and Recreation Center offers a seemingly endless list of athletic equipment, spaces, and activities to the student body. Whether you are interested in playing team sports, having a casual workout routine, or training for a major athletic achievement, the Rec. Center has something to offer that can be tailored to your speed and interests. The stunning Georgian- style building boasts a number of athletic courts, a 6,000 square foot fitness center, batting cages, aerobic classes, and even hydrotherapy and nutritional counseling.

Haupt Humanities

The Haupt Humanities building hosts classes in the English, Foreign Languages, Religion, History and Political Science Departments. The building is centrally-located, and its charming clock tower can be spotted from across campus. Students in the humanities department are able to enrich their studies by utilizing the building's designated writing center, and language learning facility.

Forrer Residence Hall

Forrer Hall is a high-energy women's residence hall, located just beside the Campus Center building. The residence hall is home to around 360 females, who range from first-year students, to established sorority members. The upbeat and lively building features large laundry rooms, a computer lab, and a pleasant courtyard.

William T. Young Campus Center

The William T. Young Campus Center offers over 36,000 square feet of recreational amenities for students, faculty, alumni and guests. The building features a large skylit swimming pool, handball and racquetball courts, and a multi-purpose gymnasium. Students love to come here to get their blood pumping, or relax with friends over a game of billiards, darts or ping pong.

Charles L. Shearer Art Building

The Charles L. Shearer Art Building supports hands-on creative learning by way of its studio space for student drawing, painting, sculpture, design, ceramics, and photography projects. The building also houses a number of faculty studios, which opens the door for interactive critique and creative production. Students are able to utilize materials from the tool and supply rooms, and display their finished products in the enclosed gallery.
