Welcome to Temple University—we are proud to be Philadelphia's public university, one of the top 50 largest universities in the U.S., with campuses in one of America's most historic cities, regionally in Ambler, Pennsylvania, and globally in Rome and Tokyo.

Founded in 1884 by Russell Conwell, Temple's mission is, and always has been, to provide an education that's accessible to people from all backgrounds. Our urban location in Philadelphia allows Temple students to take what they learn in our classrooms and apply it in the real world. Our students spend their time in Philadelphia interning as part of their curriculum, making strides in local labs and becoming leaders within their community. O'Connor Plaza

Our first stop is O'Connor Plaza, located at the heart of Main Campus on Polett and Liacouras walks. Here you will find our signature bronze Owl statue—our university mascot—and Founder's Garden, a pedestrian park where students can study, enjoy a bite to eat with friends, or go to spend the afternoon in the shade. As we continue our tour across campus, you will see most of our academic buildings and learn more about our many schools and colleges, and over 600 different academic programs. We also know not every student comes to college with a clear idea of what they want to study, which is perfectly fine—our Academic Resource Center and Division of University Studies can help. Located in Mitten Hall, University Studies is the academic home for undeclared students and students in transition between majors. The center helps undecided students explore their personal interests, discover academic pathways and eventually declare a major, all while staying on track to graduate on time. So no matter what you want to study, we hope this tour will help you get to know us better, and give you a feel for life as a Temple student.

Alter Hall (business)

Alter Hall is home to the Fox School of Business, the largest, most comprehensive business school in the Greater Philadelphia region. Since its doors opened in 2009, Alter Hall has symbolized the dramatic progress of the school and ushered in a new era of learning. This state-of-the-art facility is more than simply a space for classrooms and offices—it's a place where students, faculty and alumni can connect and collaborate, offering high-tech resources and amenities such as an entrepreneurship lab, mentor meeting rooms, research institutions, lecture halls and more. Students can also take advantage of the Capital Markets Room, a mock trading room and simulation lab, or study beneath a 177-foot elliptical stock ticker, the longest at any American business school.

Walking along Liacouras Walk—the main artery of our campus—you will also find the neighboring Speakman Hall, which houses the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management. Students can choose from a variety of majors that encompass the fast-paced tourism and hospitality industries. Here, students earn an experience-driven education that goes beyond the classroom, leading them into the city of Philadelphia and the world, innovating the industry and moving it forward.

Morgan Hall, Dining

Morgan Hall provides students with access to the Morgan Hall dining facility. This is one of three major dining options on campus, and our dining halls have options for all dietary needs.

Temple is also known for its many food trucks that offer an array of options from all over the world. Whether it's a new taco truck, an artisan salad or a classic Philly cheesesteak, Temple students will always be able to find something new or a taste of home.

Morgan Hall, Residence Hall

The tallest building in North Philadelphia, Morgan Hall houses 1,200 students in apartment-style living, with floor plans that include a kitchen and dining space, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as a common space. This residence hall stands above the Broad Street Line subway, which provides Temple students easy access to all that Philadelphia has to offer. In addition to Morgan Hall, we have several on-campus living options that include traditional, suite- and apartment-style residence halls. We guarantee housing for all first-year students who commit to Temple by May 1.

Ritter Hall (education and human development)

Next stop is Ritter Hall and Ritter Annex, where you can find Temple's College of Education and Human Development. Students in the College of Education and Human Development are prepared to make an impact on the world as educational leaders and agents of change, with a variety of academic offerings that provide a path to the professional world of teaching, leadership, research and service. Our alumni establish careers both inside and outside of the classroom.

Temple's unique location in the heart of North Philadelphia also creates opportunities for students to serve our surrounding neighborhoods and school districts across the city, empowering local children and communities through education. Our College of Education's Jumpstart Program, where future educators work with young students in low-income neighborhoods to set them on a path to close the achievement gap before it begins, is just one example of the many community-based programs and initiatives. The college is also home to several institutes and centers that serve Temple and the surrounding community, including the Institute on Disabilities.

Student Center

The Howard Gittis Student Center is home to our student activities, clubs and organizations; the university bookstore; a food court; and our own student-run movie theater, "The Reel." The Student Center is a place where students have the opportunity to engage with a wide variety of events and speakers. Temple students can purchase discounted tickets for a number of events in Philadelphia, including theater performances and sporting events. Our Cherry Pantry is also here, which provides donated food and personal items for any member of the Temple community facing food insecurity.

Bell Tower

The Bell Tower at Lenfest Circle is a Temple landmark where our diverse student community gathers daily—for fun events and to meet and slow down. Recently renovated, the Bell Tower stands at more than 110 feet tall and plays the Westminster Chimes every hour on the hour. With its location in the heart of campus, the Bell Tower provides a central space where our students can study, relax and socialize in the heart of the city. The Bell Tower is also the central gateway to campus from the SEPTA regional rail train station, offering students access to various public transportation options to get around Philadelphia, with the center of the city a quick subway ride away.

TECH Center

One of the largest computer labs of its kind, our TECH Center is home to 700 computers, multiple collaborative spaces, and state-of-the-art audio and visual labs. Open 24 hours a day, students congregate in the TECH Center at all hours for both group work and independent study.

On the ground floor, you will find Temple's Welcome Center, where you will meet our admissions counselors and our Owl Ambassadors—your tour guides!—when you check out campus. Come visit any time—we have tours every day, Monday through Friday, and on select weekends.

Mazur and Gladfelter Halls (liberal arts and social sciences)

Mazur and Gladfelter Halls are home to Temple's College of Liberal Arts, where more than 5,000 students across 35 academic programs learn how to become innovative problem-solvers in all fields, across all industries. Students can choose from majors and courses like political science, psychology, environmental studies, neuroscience, history, language arts and more. Most courses are taught in seminar-style settings that encourage students to engage with world-class research faculty, and students are encouraged to pursue internship, study abroad and research opportunities to enhance their education outside the classroom. These experiences prepare students for rewarding careers and fulfilling lives as informed and engaged citizens of the world. The College of Liberal Arts produces graduates who are ready to hit the ground running, breaking barriers in a myriad of professions and fields. The College of Liberal Arts also provides its students with strong career preparation through its Joyce K. Salzberg Center for Professional Development. When not in class, students enjoy the new Mazur Hall lobby and the new elevated terrace park between Mazur and Gladfelter halls.

Science Education Research Center (science and technology)

Our Science Education Research Center, known as SERC, is home to Temple's College of Science and Technology, where students work side-by-side with world-class researchers in the lab, in the field and in the classroom. Offering dozens of high-tech majors and a growing number of advanced degree options, the College of Science and Technology is one of Temple's fastest growing schools. Students have the opportunity to work alongside faculty to take on today's toughest scientific challenges, while also exploring potential career, internship and research opportunities across the Philadelphia region's thriving science and technology industries.

Across all of our schools and colleges, Temple students and faculty are engaged in powerful research—we are designated by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education as an R1: Doctoral University, "very high research activity" institution, among leading research institutions in the United States, and we are one of only 4% of institutions nationwide that have this classification.

Temple students have recently been named as Rhodes, Goldwater and Knight-Hennessy scholars, continuing their studies at Oxford University and Stanford University. Temple also ranks as a top Producer of Fulbright scholars in the U.S. !

Engineering Building (engineering)

For more than 50 years, Temple Engineering students have been among the most accomplished students at Temple University. Many engage in research with faculty while competing for top internships and routinely capturing prestigious honors, such as the Goldwater Scholarship. Students can pursue a wide range of interdisciplinary opportunities, through 17 student professional organizations, research partnerships with Temple's medical, dental, podiatry and pharmacy schools—and even study abroad without disrupting their engineering coursework. In addition, engineering students can often be found working in the IDEAS Hub, an 8,000-square-foot work space that is part of a comprehensive engineering ecosystem at the college. Here, 3D printing, motion capture, robotics and drone stations empower students with the tools they need to excel in the jobs they step into after graduation. Nearly 85% of graduates from the Class of 2020 reported that they were either working, continuing their education, enrolled in the military or completing a volunteer project within six months of graduation. Recent employers of Temple Engineering graduates include Amazon, Boeing, NASA, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Metrologic, among others. Many other students have pursued advanced degrees at institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania, Northwestern Medical School and Princeton.

Tyler School of Art and Architecture (art) and Presser Hall (music)

Temple's Tyler School and Art and Architecture is home to a community of bold thinkers and makers, based at one of the nation's leading schools for the study of art, design and the built environment. Tyler's expansive, state-of-the-art facilities provide students with the spaces to think, experiment, create and act big. Within these facilities, you will find studios full of equipment that both honors traditional techniques and pushes the boundaries of innovative practice—everything students need to find their voice and path. The spaces also offer classrooms, lecture halls, collaboration spaces, a large green courtyard, an academic advising center, a cafe, exhibition spaces, and Temple Contemporary—Tyler's visionary center for public programming. For more than 80 years, Tyler has been producing graduates whose originality, tenacity and commitment to social change have left their mark on a world that's hungry for visionary thinkers who are skilled practitioners in their fields.

Connected to Tyler is Presser Hall, where you will find our world-famous Boyer College of Music and Dance. Boyer offers a wide variety of undergraduate degrees, including dance, instrumental studies, music education, composition, music history, and voice and opera, just to name a few. Presser Hall is home to the Boyer College of Music and Dance's Klein Recital Hall and Arronson Hall, as well as learning spaces equipped with smart classrooms, recital rooms, practice rooms and large ensemble rehearsal rooms.

With Temple's Main Campus located within two miles of the center of Philadelphia, students also have endless opportunities to explore the city's historical theaters, art museums and other cultural institutions.

Annenberg Hall (communication) and TFMA (theater, film, media arts)

Annenberg Hall is the current home to our Klein College of Media and Communication, where students have the opportunity to study media and communications in an exciting urban environment. Situated in the nation's fourth largest media market, Klein's mission is to prepare the media creators of tomorrow, with academic programs that span departments of Advertising, Journalism, and Media Studies and Production. Students have access to extensive TV and film production areas—which span over 4,400 square feet—as well as audio, photographic and new writing labs; Bell Tower Music, the university's student-run record label; a 75-seat multimedia screening room; and smart classrooms. Upon graduation, students join a network of over 20,000 alumni that represent Klein globally, including Peter Jones, creative director at the world's largest advertising agency; daytime talk show host Tamron Hall; and ESPN SportsCenter anchor Kevin Neghandi.

You can also find the Department of Film and Media Arts in Annenberg Hall, one of two departments that comprise Temple's School of Theater, Film and Media Arts. Here students can take advantage of television and production areas—which include studios and graphics and film labs—as well as an extensive video and film editing areas, a 75-seat multimedia screening room, photographic labs, two news writing labs and smart classrooms. Students with an interest in working within the Hollywood entertainment industry can also take advantage of our Los Angeles Internship and Study Program, an opportunity to study in the city for a summer and work alongside Temple faculty in the area.

The Department of Theater is also close by in Tomlinson Hall, which features two theaters, rehearsal rooms and costume and scene shops. Students can choose from majors that include theater, musical theater, technical production and management, theater education and more. Our School of Theater, Film and Media Arts has spawned the likes of actors Jesse Williams, Kunal Nayyur and social media influencer Kalen Allen, who you may have seen as a regular on The Ellen Show, or as a judge on Food Network's Cakealikes.

Charles Library

Charles Library is the heart of Temple's Main Campus. Complete with a robotic book retrieval system and one of the largest green roofs in Pennsylvania, Charles is a collaborative space intentionally created as a catalyst for community engagement. Designed by the world-renowned architectural firm Snøhetta, Charles recently earned LEED Gold-certification—one of the most widely used and established green-building rating systems in the world—and houses the Student Success Center, visualization and virtual reality studio, 3D printers, and more. Charles was built for the modern-day learner and will serve the Temple community for generations to come.

Temple Performing Arts Center

The Temple Performing Arts Center was the original site where our founder, Russell Conwell, began teaching his first night classes in 1884. Today, Temple students use this space to perform or catch concerts and recitals and learn from visiting speakers. The center has a rich history of attracting notable speakers ranging from historical figures like Martin Luther King Jr. to modern-day influencers such as Tina Fey and Anderson Cooper.

Other student performance spaces on campus include Rock Hall, Conwell Hall Dance Theater, Presser Hall, Tomlinson Theater and Randall Theater.

STAR Complex (public health and recreation)

The Aramark Student Training and Recreation Complex, or STAR, is a multipurpose facility with teaching labs for our College of Public Health and one of six fitness spaces on campus. With a 70-yard indoor turf field and state-of-the-art recreation equipment, STAR is the convergence of practical classroom experience and an outlet for health and fitness. Temple's College of Public Health is leading a new movement to imagine the future of public health, with its students at the forefront. Through transdisciplinary research and interprofessional education, our faculty and students embrace public health as a catalyst for individual and community change and well-being, working together on innovative designs and delivery solutions for healthcare, disease prevention and social welfare. Graduates of the College of Public Health comprise an important community of professionals.

Temple students can also stay active through 30 different club sports and a dozen intramural sport options. Competing at the highest level in the American Athletic Conference, Temple has 18 Division I athletic programs. The Cherry Crusade, Temple's student-led pride group, and the Diamond Marching Band never fail to spread the Cherry and White spirit at every home game!

Philadelphia

Philadelphia is a cultural hub of rich historical sites, world-renowned museums, and is one of the top foodie destinations in the U.S. Philadelphia is central to the Temple experience, and as a student here, you will be connected to it all. At Temple, the real world is at your fingertips—students get hands-on, practical experience needed to land jobs after graduation or to enter graduate or professional school. Philadelphia is home to 15 Fortune 500 companies and hundreds of small businesses and nonprofits that together create countless opportunities for internships and professional development. Our alumni network includes more than 340,000 Owls around the world—with 150,000 right here in the Philadelphia area.

Temple students are committed to giving back to the Philadelphia community—engaging in numerous service opportunities. Students can get involved in a myriad of ways—whether it be with one of the more than 330 student clubs and organizations on campus, or through Temple Volunteers, a program with the university's Office of Community Relations that offers everything from one-day service activities to long-term volunteer opportunities in North Philadelphia.

Rome and Tokyo Campuses

With campuses in Rome, Italy, and Tokyo, Japan, your Temple experience has global entry points. In addition to study abroad opportunities, first-year applicants can begin their Temple degree with a first year in Italy through the Rome Entry Year Program before completing their academic studies here in Philadelphia. Temple Japan also provides study abroad options as well as the ability to fully complete several undergraduate and graduate degrees at its new campus in vibrant Setagaya City, Tokyo.

Temple offers a variety of study-away programs in cities including London, England; Oviedo, Spain; and Yallahs, Jamaica internationally; and domestically in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles.

Ambler Campus

Temple's Ambler Campus, located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, offers an escape from the city to a beautiful 187-acre arboretum, which often serves as an outdoor classroom. Students enjoy small class sizes and personal attention at Ambler, plus opportunities to get involved in student life. The campus offers advising, a technology center, library, gym and outdoor pool, and houses Temple's first e-sports center.

Temple Ambler is home to the Tyler School of Art and Architecture's Landscape Architecture and Horticulture programs—where students have access to greenhouses, an enormous arboretum, an aquaponics lab, a technology center and more—and the Fox School of Business and College of Liberal Arts also offer courses and programs for students here. There are about 40 degree programs students may begin at Temple Ambler. First-year students may be eligible for the Ambler Campus Grant, saving on their first year of tuition.

When you're an Owl, you're an Owl, no matter where you take courses, and you can ride the free intercampus bus to travel safely between local campuses.
