Any conversation about our liberal arts education begins with our professors. From philosophy to accounting and nursing to cybersecurity, your professors are experts who have practiced what they teach, and they'll be by your side every step of the way to help you succeed on whatever path you take. For academic high-achievers, our honors community is a great home. Students can study in programs like our Fred Rogers Scholars, Aurelius Scholars, STEP Scholars, and Benedictine Leadership Studies. Scholarships, including our prestigious Wimmer Scholarship, help high-achieving students in their educational pursuits.

Experiential Learning

A great college education is about more than classroom learning. It's about how you apply those academic foundations in the real world. Bordering our campus is the Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve, a favorite location for environmental education and science students. At Saint Vincent, we embrace experiential learning in every program. Education students can practice teaching through our STEP-UP Program as early as their sophomore year. Criminology students take part in mock trial competitions. Students in every major can complete internships, either locally or at national organizations. And you can even go further—literally. Every year, some of our students study abroad for a semester. Others join shorter professor-led study trips to Ireland, our Summer Institute in Rome, and more.

When you hear someone talking about Saint Vincent, you'll probably hear them talking a lot about community. Our campus has something for every student and every interest. From the dance to the equestrian team, the Aquarium Club to birding, Women in Business to fencing, and eSports to Rugby, there are more than 70 student clubs and organizations where you can find your people. Plus, our award-winning Activities Programming Board sponsors student events all year, including off-campus trips all over the East Coast and SVC's own version of "The Voice." At Saint Vincent, it's easy to be a part of the community, and that community feels like home.

As soon as you step foot on campus, you'll find a caring community dedicated to your success. If our students struggle, we make it our mission to help them. Counseling sessions or check-ups in our Wellness Center, therapy dogs around finals time, or just that confidential chat with someone who can help—we've got you. Mental health also means taking care of yourself. You'll find the equipment you need in our student fitness center and our Frank and Elizabeth Resnick Pool. And if you just need some fresh air, one of the many trails around campus is waiting for you.

Residence Life

SVC's approach to student housing is specifically designed to help new students feel welcome and at home. All first-year students live in Saint Benedict Hall, in "Pods," with about 20 other freshmen who share their interests. Those students will also become your teammates in our annual Pod Wars competition. After freshman year, most students chose to live on campus to enjoy the community spirit. They take advantage of our convenient residence halls, some of which even connect directly to academic buildings. When it's cold, not having to go outside to get to class is pretty nice! By your senior year, you'll get the chance to move into Rooney Hall—complete with apartment-style living options.

Welcome to the Caf, our all-you-can-eat community dining center! We offer food that fits every dietary need, from made-to-order sandwiches to wood-fired pizza, artisan breads to shrimp cocktail, vegan alternatives, a salad bar, and the best double chocolate chip cookies you'll ever have! If you're feeling a little more casual, The Shack in the Carey Center offers cheeseburgers, deli wraps, grab-and-go items, and more. You can get your caffeine fix with a handcrafted beverage from The Barista in the Library, along with delicious pastries and breakfast sandwiches. Throughout the semester, you can even find pop-up stands across campus that offer free popcorn, hot chocolate, ice cream, and other snacks.

The Dale P. Latimer Library is the heart of our campus. No matter the time of day, you'll find students studying in a cozy chair or study nook, and together in one of the modern group study rooms. In addition to our Barista coffee bar, the Library is home to our Writing Center, additional academic support areas, and the Verostko Center for the Arts, a 5,000-square-foot art gallery that hosts rotating exhibits and serves as an educational and inspirational hub for our community. And, for anyone interested in history and literature, we even have a rare book collection that includes a first edition of Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales!

Athletics

At Saint Vincent, we take pride in the fact that our athletes are students first. Every year, a high percentage of them earn a spot on our conference's Academic Honor Roll. In addition to getting a great education, you'll train in newly renovated facilities that help you compete at the highest level in our Division. With 25 NCAA Division 3 Sports, plus club sports and intramurals, everyone has the opportunity to get in on the action, grow as an athlete, and cheer one another on to victory. These are just a few of the reasons that SVC is home to so many all-American athletes and championship teams. Go Bearcats!

Faith Life

Saint Vincent College and Monastery were founded in 1846 by Boniface Wimmer, a German monk. Since then, we've become one of the largest monasteries in the world. Those men in black robes on campus? They're Benedictine monks, teaching as professors or working at the college. Even today, the Benedictine Hallmarks are deeply ingrained in our community. But you don't need to be Catholic to appreciate them. Principles like community, hospitality, humility, and stewardship resonate with everyone. And, there is always time for quiet reflection in our stunning Basilica. Campus Ministry brings these hallmarks to life. It hosts fun events for everyone all year – from mission trips and retreats to the annual student cookout, daily student masses in the Mary, Mother of Wisdom Student Chapel, and more.

Our Most Famous Neighbor

Before he became one of the most beloved figures in the history of children's television, Fred Rogers was our neighbor in Latrobe. He maintained those connections throughout his life. Today, the Fred Rogers Institute & Center carry on his legacy, while the Fred Rogers Archive hosts a permanent exhibit of his life and work. You'll see SVC build on the foundations of Mr. Rogers through initiatives like the Fred Rogers Scholars and Incubator 143, which are designed for students interested in early childhood education and related fields. In addition, numerous fellowships and projects - like the Educators' Neighborhood – partner with teachers to improve the ways we prepare our children for the future.

SVC's campus is nestled in the heart of the Laurel Highlands, surrounded by some of the most beautiful nature Pennsylvania has to offer. From still lakes and hiking trails to ski resorts just a short drive away, any nature lover will find something to appreciate. Five minutes from campus, downtown Latrobe is full of small-town charm. It's the birthplace of both professional football and the banana split! Here and in nearby Greensburg, you'll find restaurants, boutique stores, and coffee shops. And of course, Pittsburgh is just an hour away. From professional sports to a thriving cultural district, the Steel City is always worth the trip.
