Welcome to University of Memphis, a University driven by doing. The UofM is located in a quiet residential neighborhood in Memphis, Tennessee. Drive seven miles west of campus and relax on the banks of the Mighty Mississippi River and enjoy the funky rhythms of Beale Street. Maxine A. Smith University Center

The Maxine A. Smith University Center is the hub of campus life. On the first floor you'll find tons of places to eat, whether you want a cup of coffee, a sit-down meal or a quick bite on the go. Stop by the exhibit tables to learn about student organizations or campus initiatives. The second floor features the Involvement Zone, where student organization offices are located, and the Technology Hub with a 24 hour computer lab. There are plenty of spaces for you to relax between classes. The third floor is comprised of conference and event spaces.

Bookstore

UofM students wear Tiger Blue every Friday. And every game day. And most days in between. Stop by the University Bookstore to grab some Tiger gear, order your books for the semester or pick up a cup of coffee before class at Starbucks. You'll also find Tiger Banking and University Eye Care in this building. The student plaza is a great place to relax, check out the different info fairs and events, and you can't miss the Homecoming Kick-Off Event where the Alumni Association turns the fountain blue!

Community Health Building

The Community Health Building is home to the nationally ranked Loewenberg College of Nursing, located in the east wing, and School of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the west wing. Nursing has eight labs with fully-functioning simulator manikins that allow students to practice inserting IVs, checking blood pressure and even delivering a baby. The building also houses the Memphis Speech and Hearing Clinic that allows CSD grad clinicians to diagnose and provide therapeutic services for speech, language, hearing and balance disorders. The labs feature state-of-the-art equipment to provide comprehensive learning and evaluations. It's also home to one of only 50 anechoic chambers in the U.S. that is used in cutting-edge sound research.

Laurie-Walton Family Basketball Center

As an NCAA Division 1 college, we have many sports teams and facilities. The Laurie-Walton Family Basketball Center is home to Tiger men's basketball. The newly-built center includes a practice gym, locker room, coaches' offices and training facilities. The Hall of Traditions showcases highlights from the program's history. Academic success is a driving principle for the entire University, and this is personified in the academic support area, which will serve as a hub for several sports. The football program has a new indoor practice facility, and female student-athletes utilize the Finch Center and the Elma Roane Field House. Men's basketball plays at the FedExForum downtown, and the football team plays at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

Elma Roane Field House

The Elma Roane Field House, known as "The Jungle," is home to Tiger Women's Basketball and Volleyball, as well as the College of Health Sciences. Enhancements have been made to the facilities to provide a comprehensive strength and conditioning area and the latest in recovery and therapy equipment. The College of Health Sciences teaches the principles of health, exercise, nutrition, and physical activity. It's home to the Center for Nutraceutical and Dietary Supplement Research, which investigates ingredients and supplements for safety and efficacy, and the Human Performance Center, which provides health testing and is used by athletes for performance-based testing.

Memorial Field

Memorial Field features a practice field within a running track. On any given day, you'll hear the tunes of the Mighty Sound of the South, our University marching band, practicing, or one of the four ROTC branches - Air Force, Army, Marines and Navy - running drills. In addition, the Spring and Homecoming concerts hosted by Student Activities Council take place on the field. Looking around you'll see Scates Hall, home to College of Arts and Sciences, the ROTC offices and Robison Hall that houses the School of Public Health.

McWherter Library

Ned R. McWherter Library is the main library on campus. The floor plan is the length and width of a football field, so it's the size of four football fields stacked on top of each other. Librarians are available most hours of the day to assist with research or finding resources. The University is a member of the Interlibrary Loan system, so on the off chance you can't find the book you're looking for, we can get it for you! Utilize the Technology Sandbox to explore new technologies such as 3D Computer Aided Design, gaming systems, cameras and 3D printers. The Sandbox continues to expand and will include tools for traditional crafting and more.

Ramesses Statue

Did you know the city of Memphis is named after an Ancient Egyptian city? Memphis embraces this Egyptian connection, as evidenced by the iconic life-size Pyramid in downtown Memphis, a former event venue that is now home to Bass Pro Shop. Egypt allowed Memphis to recreate a fiberglass 25-foot statue of Ramessess II when the Pyramid opened, and he found his new home along the north entrance to our campus in 2012. He greets students that park in the Central Avenue lot, one of our largest general permit lots. Check out the Institute of Egyptian Art and Archaeology on campus to see real mummies and learn more about our Egyptian ties.

Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music

Located in the home of the blues and the birth place of rock 'n' roll, it's no surprise the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music is one of the largest music schools in the southeast. We offer degrees in 29 areas of concentration and are the only program in the Mid-South that offers a doctoral degree in music. Our student ensembles, ranging from jazz to opera to pop and more, perform in our Harris Auditorium as well as alongside our "in residence" partner, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. The new Scheidt Family Music center is underway and will include a performing arts center, practice rooms and recording studios.

Holiday Inn/Kemmons Wilson School

The Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management is located within a fully operational Holiday Inn with 82 suites as well as conference and dining spaces. It was created by and named for Kemmons Wilson, Sr. who founded the first hotel chain, Holiday Inn, right here in Memphis. The school offers students a balance of academics and real-world experience, right within the walls of the school. The school also offers a degree in Sport and Leisure Management. The Kemmons Wilson Culinary Institute opened in 2019 and offers a concentration in Culinary Arts and recreational classes. Our students have many opportunities to gain experience in their field of study as Memphis is home to UofM Tiger Athletics, an NBA team, a minor league baseball team, and other professional sporting events.

The FedEx Institute of Technology is more than an ultramodern building with all the technological amenities to host high profile events. It's home to cutting edge research and innovation in emerging technologies. It ties together researchers from across campus to achieve breakthroughs in intelligent systems, drones, autonomous vehicles, precision medicine and more. Centennial Place

Welcome to Centennial Place, a co-ed residence hall that's home to 800 students. You can choose from single or double rooms that have shared private restrooms. Or you can select an apartment that is comprised of six rooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen area. Hunter Harrison Memorial Bridge

Opened in 2019, the Hunter Harrison Memorial Bridge spans two roads and a railroad track to allow students to cross safely. It connects to a 1,140 space parking garage on the south side, and an amphitheater on the north.

R.Brad Martin Student Wellness Center

The R. Brad Martin Student Wellness Center will open in 2021 and feature classrooms, rec gyms, an indoor track, exercise studios, a healthy teaching kitchen, café and more. The existing Student Recreation and Sports Complex will continue to operate alongside the new facility with classroom space, gyms, racquetball courts and fitness rooms. It will also feature the new Mike Rose Aquatics Center, providing one of few Olympic sized competitive swimming pools in the southeast. Outdoor areas will be expanded to include a leisure pool, additional field space, a basketball court and tennis courts.

Ball Hall

The College of Education, located in Ball Hall, is where it all began. Originally founded as West Tennessee State Normal School in 1912, UofM was a school for training teachers. Now, with over 50 degree programs, more than a dozen research centers and institutes, and numerous partnerships throughout the Mid-South, the College of Education continues to produce top educators. With the University Schools laboratory schools housed on campus, our students are able to research, teach and observe without leaving campus.

Welcome to University Schools, home to the laboratory schools of the UofM including the Barbara K. Lipman Early Learning & Research Center, the nationally-recognized Campus Elementary School, University Middle and the future University High School, as well as our partnerships with Porter-Leath and the Harwood Center. The schools provide high-quality education to children of University faculty and staff and local area students, as well as opportunities for UofM students to gain experience in a classroom without having to leave campus. Each school is a laboratory school which promotes excellence in teaching and enthusiasm for learning. Through integration of research into an innovative curriculum, the schools can offer their best to aspiring teachers and to the urban community it serves.
