This is just one of the many locations where our engineers reside. Marquardt's full staff of engineers specialize in mechanical, electrical, industrial, tool, quality, test-lab, software and systems engineering. They design complex, high-quality switches, sensors and control systems that go beyond your basic on-and-off switch. Being vertically integrated and having a broad-scope of in-house capabilities results in faster, more accurate communication, both internally and with our customers.

Before I bring you into the production area, I have to ensure we are ESD-protected. ESD stands for "electrostatic discharge," which occurs when there is a buildup of static (like when you rub a balloon to your hair). The electricity is then released with a spark. For example, if you have ever touched your hand to a doorknob and felt a shock, you have experienced electrostatic discharge. In addition to all of the precautionary actions already taken throughout the production plant, it is very important that we are ESD protected because ESD can damage sensitive equipment. We wear special jackets and straps to remove the static build-up. After I test safe at this ESD checkpoint, we can get started with the rest of the tour.
Molding trail

Our highly-automated molding department is equipped with the machinery and support to produce more than 500,000 parts per week and 22 million parts per year. Our molding department uses over 66 different kinds of reinforced, high-quality engineered plastic pellets. In order to reduce our waste stream, we recycle excess plastic by grinding and reusing it in the process. Marquardt has a keen focus on the environment and invests in technologies that reduce our discarded plastic to zero. Because we make our plastic parts in house, we are able to respond to changes in customer demands and designs in less time.

Our plant utilizes high-speed equipment to place more than 10 million electronic parts per week onto circuit boards. Over 150,000 circuit boards are assembled each week for use in our assembly process. For complete quality control, we use laser 2D marking and 3D camera inspection to provide 100% traceability of all our manufactured products. The "pick and place" process is followed by programming and testing populated circuit boards using in-line flashing and in-circuit testing equipment, before the boards are released to assembly. Our customers have recognized and awarded benchmark-level quality in electronic production, which is a result of our in-line manufacturing process.

Products are assembled and 100% tested before they are sent to the customer. Marquardt not only designs and builds our customers' products, but our engineers and toolmakers also design and build the equipment that makes those products. Having this capability in-house is yet another way Marquardt delivers value to its customers. We can be more responsive to changes in demand, which leads to fast turn-around. Additionally, error-proofing technologies are built into our assembly equipment to ensure consistent quality in all of our products.
