Welcome to Lund University, a world top-100 university! We are excited to have you tour our campus. Our university offers one of the broadest ranges of programmes in Scandinavia, all based on cross-disciplinary and cutting-edge research. Lund University was founded in 1666 and has nine faculties and around 43,000 students. With over 140 degree programmes taught in English, mainly at the Master’s level, Lund University attracts students from all over the world, resulting in a truly global environment where different ideas and perspectives meet. In fact, 23% of our student body consists of international students from over 130 countries. Here you can see our main University Building which was inaugurated in 1882 and today hosts many ceremonial functions, such as graduation.

University Library

There is perhaps no spot on campus as picturesque as the University Library, also known as UB. It was built in 1907 and is the main library of Lund University. It is one of Sweden's special reserve libraries, meaning it is responsible for keeping a copy for historical records of everything that is published in Swedish in the whole country. There are 25 other libraries across our three campuses, with multiple libraries for each faculty. Students are welcome to borrow books and study in any of the libraries, regardless of their faculty of study. As one of the world’s top research-led universities, providing state of the art facilities for our students and staff alike to further the production of knowledge is one of our top priorities. Some specific examples of our strong research areas include: cancer research, epidemiology, laser physics, sustainability science, nanotechnology, climate modelling, and so much more!

The City of Lund

Lund is located in southern Sweden and was founded in 990. Today, it has around 125,000 inhabitants. The city itself has the charm of a small-town, with beautiful cobblestone streets and plenty of cafes and restaurants to explore. Lund is only a 45 minute train ride away from Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. From this bird’s eye view, you can explore several areas around our beautiful city. The Lund Cathedral marks the heart of the city and was inaugurated in 1145. Just a few minutes walk to the east, you will find our Botanical Gardens, with over 7,000 plant species spread across eight hectacres. On sunny days, you will often find students having a picnic, studying, or taking a walk through the gardens or one of the city’s many other parks and green spaces.

Law - Juridicum

The Faculty of Law is one of Lund University’s four original faculties, dating back to 1666. Juridicum, the Faculty of Law’s main building, lies in the medieval heart of the city of Lund – where one thousand years of history meet the very latest in research. Our two buildings, together with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute across the street, form a dedicated campus for law research and education. The Faculty of Law library has the largest collection of law literature in the Nordic countries. Our legal education is based on strong research traditions and close links to different parts of the legal community in Sweden and beyond. Our graduates here at the Faculty of Law find career opportunities in an increasing variety of legal professions worldwide, including national and international legal institutions, NGOs, academia and the private sector.

Social Sciences - Gamla Kirurgen

Gamla Kirurgen in Swedish means “The Old Surgery”. That’s because this building and the ones surrounding it were originally part of the old hospital when it was completed in 1868. Today, this building is the picturesque center of the Faculty of Social Sciences. In the Social Science faculty, there are a wide variety of Master’s programmes that are either interdisciplinary, thematic programmes, or programmes in certain disciplines. Study and research in the social sciences can increase our knowledge and our understanding of society, social processes and human conditions. The variety of programmes and courses we offer here at the Faculty of Social Sciences makes it possible for most students to find something to suit their interests.

Humanities & Theology - LUX

Completed in 2014, LUX houses the Humanities and Theology faculties. The building features an interesting blend of both historic and modern architecture combined, making its library and cafe a popular study location for students. Here and across the street in SOL, the Centre for Languages and Literature, you will find the Humanities Lab, an interdisciplinary research centre targeting issues of communication, culture, cognition and learning. By studying subjects in the humanities and theology, students learn more about contemporary humans and their challenges in order to better understand how we function and interact with our surroundings. There are a number of subjects for international Master's students to study within humanities and theology, such as major and minor languages, literature studies, cultural studies, area studies, archaeology, religion, film and media studies, and human rights studies.

Science - Astronomy Building and Lund Observatory

We are now at the top of the Lund Observatory. The Astronomy Building below us was inaugurated in 2001 when the Lund Observatory was moved from the city park to this location where it was converted from the old city water tower. Take a look around and you will be able to see many of our other facilities from this vantage point such as the Biology greenhouses and the Physics Complex. Here at the Astronomy Building, and throughout the Faculty of Science, we study and describe the physical world. We seek to understand everything from the smallest components of nature and molecular processes in the human body to the sensitivity of climate systems and the capacity of exoplanets to support life. The Faculty of Science is ranked among the top 50 in the world for several subjects and is very research intensive. Around 80 percent of our faculty resources here at the Faculty of Science go towards research so that we can help build a better tomorrow.

Engineering and Technology - Kårhuset

The Faculty of Engineering is as a place for dreams and discoveries. We inspire creative development of technology, architecture and design and teach some of Sweden's most attractive Master's programmes, all built on a broad research base. Here, you can see Kårhuset, the home of our student union and our faculty’s international office. Across the street from Kårhuset, you’ll find sjön Sjön, a lake that most of our facilities sprawl around, making this a beautiful area of campus to study in. Our faculty also offers the Lund University School of Aviaton at nearby Ljungbyhed. We are among the leading engineering faculties in Europe and produce invaluable research and innovation. Some of the recent innovations developed at the Faculty of Engineering include: a world record in 5G technology, solar cell driven water purification, early cancer diagnosis, and nanotechnology for more efficient solar panels.

Economics & Management - Holger Crafoords Centre

We are now at the Holger Crafoords Centre which was completed in 1998 and houses the School of Economics and Management, or LUSEM for short. LUSEM graduates are well prepared to be leaders of tomorrow. We are truly international, belonging to the 1% of business schools worldwide that holds a ’triple crown’ accreditation. The commitment to making a difference drives the School’s learning culture in its focus on student learning, innovation and engagement – all in an international atmosphere. Medicine - CRC

The Clinical Research Center, or CRC, and the Wallenberg Laboratory are the Faculty of Medicine's meeting places for medical education, research and healthcare located in the hospital area in Malmö. The CRC is home to one of Lund University’s most popular English-taught programmes: the Master’s in Public Health. Most of the facilities of our Faculty are located on the main Lund campus where they are almost wall to wall with Skåne University Hospital in Lund. This makes the distance between the clinics and the laboratories short, both physically and in thought. We are currently constructing the brand new Forum Medicum in Lund which will open in 2023. At the Faculty of Medicine, we use student-centred learning based on current research to prepare you for your future career. An informal atmosphere characterises our learning environment as you participate in research fields that we are globally renowned for and work with authentic cases to further deepen your knowledge and skills.

Malmö - Fine and Performing Arts

In Malmö, the city is your campus! Malmö is the third largest city in Sweden and is only 15 minutes away from Lund by train. No matter where you are in Malmö, you’re never too far from the sea. In just a 20-minute train-ride, you can cross the famous Öresund Bridge and arrive in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. Malmö is the hub for cultural events in the region, making it the perfect place to house our Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts including the Malmö Art Academy, Malmö Academy of Music and Malmö Theatre Academy. Our faculty educates future artists, musicians, music teachers and actors in an environment that is characterised by high visibility through exhibitions, concerts and performances and with extensive networks in the surrounding art, theater and music life, as well as in schools and music schools. Whether you're studying in Malmö or just want to explore the city's vibrant restaurant scene and nightlife, there is something for everyone in the urban cultural heart of Skåne.

Campus Helsingborg

Campus Helsingborg lies just a half an hour train ride north of Lund in the city of Helsingborg, one of Sweden's fastest growing cities. At Campus Helsingborg, there are around 150 employees and 10% of Lund University's students. More than 4,000 students here are studying strategic communication, service management, tourism management, and energy-efficient and envrionmental building design. Campus Helsingborg works with interdisciplinary education and research in close collaboration with business and industry as well as public organisations in the region. The campus consists of one large main building that was renovated and opened in 2001 in a former rubber factory. Since we are just a stone’s throw away from the sea, Campus Helsingborg is the perfect place to study for those who long for sand between their toes or an afternoon stroll on the beach.

Student Life and Accommodation - AF Building

Lund is considered the number one city for students in Sweden, and it’s easy to understand why when you experience our unique student life. The “nations”, the Academic Society and the student unions together offer long-standing student traditions and a wide range of activities, forming the heart of student life in Lund. With something to offer for everyone, there are many opportunities to meet people and make new friends! The AF Building has been the epicenter of Lund’s student life since 1851 and is the home of the Academic Society. Over 70 student organizations regularly use the AF Building for meetings, parties, lectures, and other activities. Regarding housing, LU Accommodation is a service at Lund University which manages some of the student housing available in Lund, Malmö and Helsingborg, including housing for non-EU students who have a housing guarantee. Most EU students who do not have a housing guarantee find housing in and around the University campus towns through private landlords or AF Bostäder (the Academic Society's housing).

MAX IV and ESS

Here at the edge of Lund lie the two largest research facilities in Sweden, reflecting the strength and attractiveness of research at Lund University. The MAX IV Laboratory opened in Lund in 2016 and the European Spallation Source, or ESS, is currently being built and will open in 2023. MAX IV is a national electron accelerator laboratory for synchrotron radiation research and is the brightest source of x-rays worldwide. The ESS will be harness the world’s most powerful neutron source and is a joint-European venture that will be shared with 12 other European nations. From here at the Science Village, you can see across our entire city and beyond to Malmö, showcasing just how close everything is in our area.
