Welcome to Loyola University Chicago! Founded in 1870, Loyola is one of only 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States. In addition to its two main Chicago campuses, Loyola has a Health Sciences Campus and a Retreat and Ecology Campus, both located in the Chicago suburbs. Additionally, Loyola has a campus in Rome, along with academic centers in Beijing and Ho Chi Minh City. Our tour focuses on the Chicago locations, starting off with Loyola's Lake Shore Campus. Located in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood, the Lake Shore Campus is Loyola's main residential campus. This campus has seen many new developments, all of which were designed with sustainability in mind. Most new facilities are LEED-certified, which means they meet specific "green" building standards. The Lake Shore Campus is situated on the shores of Lake Michigan, and Loyola students enjoy lakefront property during all four years of college!

Madonna della Strada Chapel

We're standing outside of Madonna della Strada Chapel. Recently named one of the nation's 30 most beautiful college cathedrals, the chapel was designed in the Art Deco style and opened its doors in 1938. Renovations enhanced the original artwork displayed throughout the chapel, expanded the sanctuary area, and installed a new pipe organ in the rear gallery. Although approximately 50% of the student body identifies as Roman Catholic, Loyola is a home for all faiths, and a variety of faith-based student organizations are active across campus, including Hillel, Muslim Students' Association, and Hindu Students' Organization, among others.

Now let's check out the Richard J. Klarcheck Information Commons, also known as the I.C. Connected to the Cudahy Library, the I.C. is a high-tech information hub for Loyola students, featuring hundreds of computer stations, group study space, a digital media lab, a writing center, and amazing views of Lake Michigan. It's also home to the I.C. Café, a great place to grab a bite to eat between study sessions. During the regular academic year, the I.C. is generally open 24 hours a day. A Silver LEED-certified building, the I.C.'s many environmental features demonstrate the University's commitment to sustainability.

Cuneo Hall

Cuneo Hall is one of Loyola's academic buildings. In addition to many classroom spaces, Cuneo Hall is home to multiple academic centers and departments. This Gold LEED-certified space features several green components, including a four-story atrium flooded by light from the skylights above. At the front of each classroom is a small display with green and red lights that notifies instructors when the building is in a natural ventilation mode, prompting them to open and close windows based on the temperature outside.

Built in 1930, the Mundelein Center for the Fine and Performing Arts is one of the oldest buildings on Loyola's campus. Originally home to Mundelein College, this building underwent massive renovations and now houses Loyola's Department of Fine and Performing Arts. Facilities include classroom and practice space; an experimental black box theatre; scenery and costume shops; and the Newhart Family Theatre, a thrust-style theatre space named for comedian and Loyola alumnus Bob Newhart. Additionally, Mundelein Center features a state-of-the-art simulation laboratory utilized by students in the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, along with a cafe and multiple study spaces.

You're now approaching one of the most innovative buildings on campus: Loyola's Institute of Environmental Sustainability. This Gold LEED-certified facility is the largest geothermal complex in Chicago. Features include a student-run clean energy lab that produces biodiesel: Loyola is the first and only school operation licensed to sell biodiesel in the United States. Additional features include an aquaponics system; EcoDome greenhouse; rainwater collection system; and classroom and laboratory space. The Institute also shares space with San Francisco Hall, a residence hall that houses Loyola's GreenHouse Learning Community.

Welcome to San Francisco Hall! One of Loyola's residence halls, San Francisco Hall shares space with Loyola's Institute of Environmental Sustainability and is home to approximately 400 undergraduate students. Some features of this Gold LEED-certified sustainable living space include a geothermal heating and cooling system, in-hall composting, rooftop rainwater collection, and a green café. San Francisco Hall also houses Loyola's GreenHouse Learning Community, a group of students committed to exploring environmental issues during their first year of college. Several rooms in this residence hall directly overlook the Institute's EcoDome, making it a unique, educational, and sustainable living space.

We're standing in front of Ignatius House, the central hub of Loyola's Jesuit community. Ignatius House is home to many of the Jesuits who work at Loyola in a variety of roles, including teachers, scholars, and administrators. Ignatius House is also a place where students and community members can gather with the Jesuits for shared meals, worship services, and social activities. Loyola is Chicago's only Jesuit Catholic university, and its Ignatian heritage is central to the University's mission. The Jesuits are an integral part of Loyola's campus community, and Ignatius House's proximity to many of Loyola's residence halls makes it a central location in the heart of campus.

This is de Nobili Hall, one of Loyola's undergraduate residence halls. Home to approximately 200 students, the Silver LEED-certified de Nobili Hall features a large rooftop patio, two-story entertainment lounges, study lounges, and community kitchens. Students living in de Nobili Hall also benefit from having a University dining hall right in their building.

The Michael R. and Marilyn C. Quinlan Life Sciences Education and Research Center is a state-of-the-art facility designed specifically for students studying the sciences. This building features advanced research equipment, allowing students to gain hands-on learning experience and collaborate with faculty members on research projects. Other features include modern teaching and research labs, a digital imaging facility, greenhouses, an artificial stream system, and classroom space. A multi-level atrium flooded with natural light and featuring beautiful views of campus is a favorite student study space.

The Norville Center for Intercollegiate Athletics is a modern facility for Loyola's student athletes. A member of the Missouri Valley Conference, Loyola participates in more than a dozen men's and women's NCAA Division I athletic programs, including basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball, indoor and outdoor track and field, and volleyball. The Norville Center includes a strength and conditioning center, locker rooms, sports medicine facility, and student athlete meeting spaces. Another great athletic facility on campus is the Joseph J. Gentile Arena, a 5,200-seat arena featuring three full-size courts and 18 baskets.

Loyola's Halas Recreation Center provides workout facilities and recreational opportunities to students. Top-of-the-line exercise equipment including treadmills, elliptical trainers, upright and recumbent bikes, and stair climbers feature smart technology, immediately alerting staff members when a machine is malfunctioning or in need of repair. Other features include free weights and selectorized equipment, a swimming pool, a rock-climbing wall, a multipurpose gym, group fitness classes, and modern locker rooms. Loyola students receive a Halas membership as part of their student activity fees.

The most popular gathering space for Loyola students is the Arnold J. Damen, S.J., Student Center. This Silver LEED-certified facility gives students a place to build community, relax and unwind, and have a good time. Features of this contemporary student center include the Damen Dining Hall; a separate food court; Ireland's Sports Lounge; and Damen Cinema, a 125-seat movie theater. The Damen Student Center has more than 100,000 feet of space, allowing plenty of room for student lounges, flat-screen TVs, and video gaming areas. Meeting spaces and offices for the Division of Student Development round out this impressive, student-focused facility.

When you visit Loyola, you may want to stay at The Flats at Loyola Station. This luxury guesthouse, located right off the University's CTA train station, is one of several businesses operated by Loyola Limited, an undergraduate student-run enterprise. Students participating in Loyola Limited projects gain hands-on experience managing all aspects of business operations. Loyola Limited corporations include The Flats, Felice's Roman Style Pizza, ChainLinks Bike Shop Repair & Rental, and LL Express, a Loyola shuttle service. Upon graduation, Loyola Limited student employees are prepared to enter the competitive job market with unparalleled career experience on their resumes: some of them have already held the position of company CEO!

We're in front of Lewis Towers at Loyola's downtown Water Tower Campus, located right off Michigan Avenue, Chicago's Magnificent Mile, in the heart of the Gold Coast neighborhood. Lewis Towers is home to many of the University's professional schools, including social work, education, and continuing and professional studies. It also houses Loyola's Institute of Pastoral Studies, various academic and administrative offices, and the Loyola University Museum of Art. The Water Tower Campus connects students with many jobs and internships at Chicago's largest corporations and organizations. Students can easily travel between the Lake Shore and Water Tower campuses using Loyola's inter-campus shuttle system or by taking advantage of convenient public transportation.

Loyola's School of Communication is based at a state-of-the-art facility at the Water Tower Campus. The Rev. Raymond C. Baumhart, S.J., Residence Hall is Loyola's downtown high-rise residence hall, located steps away from the center of downtown Chicago. The apartment-style residence hall is located directly above the Terry Student Center, where students can relax, study, and socialize. Highlights of the Terry Student Center include a chapel and a fitness center. If you get hungry, Lu's Old-Fashioned Deli and Pub is located on the ground floor and features outdoor patio seating.

The John and Kathy Schreiber Center is home to Loyola's Quinlan School of Business. Located at the Water Tower Campus, this 10-story facility features advanced classrooms, innovative social spaces, and a collaborative presentation area. The Schreiber Center also houses several academic centers and the Business Career Center. Quinlan's location in downtown Chicago, one of the nation's largest thriving business communities, allows students to connect with some of the world's most prestigious companies and organizations.
