Welcome to the Johns Hopkins Undergraduate Student Life Tour. We're excited to give you a glimpse of what daily life is like on our undergraduate Homewood campus. After all, it's one of the things that fuels our hard working undergrads and brings our community together. Whether for everyday fare or annual traditions like Sterling Brunch in the freshman dining hall and the formal "High Table" meal undergrads share with faculty and administrators every spring, students take the time to enjoy each other's company alongside a delicious meal.

What do you do when it's midnight and you're craving a milkshake? Hopkins students head to The Lab, the newest student union on campus. Open until 2am, it's quickly become a go-to for late-night food and a place to unwind, share classroom discussions, and attend events like movie screenings and open mic nights. It's just one of many spaces across campus that have become natural places for students to gather and socialize.

Official residence hall programming, like movie screenings or pancake breakfasts, and impromptu late-night chats with dormmates lead to lifelong memories and friendships--and sometimes even startup businesses or research projects. Dorm life is a centerpiece of the college experience, and our Office of Community Living ensures students are learning and growing not only academically but outside the classroom as well. From day one, Blue Jays become part of an engaged, diverse, and inclusive community of scholars that support one another in all they do.

By the time you're an upperclassman, you could be living in a historic Baltimore rowhome or a commercial apartment complex with amenities like state-of-the-art fitness and media centers, study lounges, and rooftop green space. Most off-campus housing is located just a few steps from campus, creating a sense of community that lasts throughout all four years. Whether in university residence halls or off-campus housing, all students live within a few blocks of one another and share favorite restaurants, coffee shops, and other popular hangouts ranging from bookstores to museums.

The arts thrive at Hopkins, thanks to the Homewood Arts Programs and Center for Visual Arts, which support artistic endeavors both in and outside the classroom. Art studios, theaters, film centers, practice spaces, equipment like 3-D printers or DSLR and GoPro cameras, and training sessions are all available to undergrads. Students attend readings by critically acclaimed authors, lead Intersession classes on hip-hop dance, and start student-run performance groups like the Aerial Circus Club. They're also introduced to the arts in Baltimore through attending university-sponsored concerts, plays, or dance performances throughout the city or by doing research at a museum or curating a local art show.

Charles Village is the city neighborhood with a small-town feel where undergrads eat, live, and hang out. Parks, museums, farmers markets, and restaurants are all within a quick walk, including a pharmacy, the local grocery store, and bagel and coffee shops. Wander around Charles Village any day and you'll find students walking to class, grabbing coffee with a professor, or enjoying a homemade cookie from Carma's Cafe.

Baltimore is a college town with all the hum of a big city. Students enjoy arts and cultural events, internship opportunities with major corporations, professional sports teams, a renowned culinary scene, community service experiences, and endless entertainment options. It's also a growing hub for start-ups and a place where young entrepreneurs find the support and resources they need to create and innovate. Students come to adopt the city as a second hometown—and in many cases, choose to stay or return here to pursue careers after graduation.

Fireside chats, film screenings, panels, and forums--these are a few of the ways students share their own identities and learn about others'. Undergrads come to Hopkins from all across the globe and have different backgrounds and life experiences. This wide range of perspectives makes our community strong--both as scholars and citizens. Offices like the Centers for Diversity and Inclusion, Multicultural Affairs, Women and Gender Resources, and LGBTQ Life support our diverse community by providing education and advocacy around issues of race and social justice, gender equity, sexual orientation, and gender identity.

The diversity of the Johns Hopkins community contributes to a vibrant and active religious life. The Bunting Meyerhoff Interfaith and Community Service Center serves as the main base for Campus Ministries and is home to a wide variety of prayer and worship services, as well as formal and informal educational and social gatherings for over 20 religious organizations. It's a place of hospitality that is welcoming to everyone regardless of background. Hopkins Hillel is another spiritual center that offers opportunities for students to become active in Jewish life through community building, culture and the arts, and other activities.

It's said that every Hopkins student passes through The Breezeway at least once every day. Perhaps that's why it's become an advertising and fundraising hub for more than 300 student-run groups that range from dance and performing arts to service-based organizations to fraternity and sorority life. Our undergrads are invested in the things they believe in, and find the same freedom they get academically to explore their interests outside the classroom. They develop practical skills and enrich campus life by bringing impressive speakers to campus for symposiums, orchestrating campus-wide events that raise thousands of dollars for charity, and even running their own businesses.
