Main Lobby of Heritage Hall

As the only public high school district in Evanston, ETHS serves a diverse population of students and families. The high school's historic building, located on a 62-acre campus, includes the main lobby of Heritage Hall, also known as H-Hall. Heritage Hall honors the many traditions and legacies of the school while celebrating today's Wildkits. School leaders work together with a team of educators, parents, and community partners to help Wildkits reach their full potential. For example, ETHS has a partnership with Northwestern University, a prestigious Evanston neighbor of the high school. The Northwestern/ETHS Partnership Office is conveniently located off of Heritage Hall and helps connect ETHS students with university resources.

The Hub

The Hub is a student success center that houses a variety of resources in one convenient location. These include College & Career Services, Community Service, and Student Activities. Wildkits can stop by The Hub to find out how to get involved in clubs or student government, or to connect with services that support their academic and life goals. The Hub has meeting spaces for student groups and staff to support social, educational and cultural activities. ETHS staff members are available to provide academic support to all students in the Academic Study Center. Students can received academic support in the areas of English/History, Math, Science, and World Languages/Bilingual Education.

Media Center & ChromeZone

ETHS is committed to increasing access to technology and digital learning tools to make teaching and learning more effective. The Media Center has space for class instruction and provides equipment for viewing, producing, and editing audiovisual materials for class projects, with staff members available for assistance. The student-led ChromeZone, located inside of the Center, is open each day to provide service and repairs to school-issued Chromebooks. Other spaces in the school, such as our Language Lab and MIDI (or Musical Instrument Digital Interface) Lab, promote learning and inspire creativity with technology-enhanced resources.

Central Library

I'm standing in Central Library, the oldest library in ETHS. It is one of several locations in the school that offers collaborative work spaces, academic support, and multimedia resources. School librarians and media specialists are available before school, after school, and during the school day to provide students and teachers technology support or consult on research needs. For example, teachers can bring their classes into Central Library or East Library to learn about the latest research techniques, or can schedule time in the South Technology Center or Media Center & ChromeZone to use technology for a class project.

The Milligan Center for Entrepreneurship

The Milligan Center for Entrepreneurship houses a classroom, several conference rooms, and a student-run Wildkit Store. Students enrolled in classes such as Algebra in Entrepreneurship apply their learning in math, business and marketing in the Center to solve real challenges in today's world. Students may develop a useful product that can be bought in the Wildkit store, for instance. Many dedicated alumni and business professionals have contributed their time, insights, and financial support through the ETHS Educational Foundation to help the Center become a premier place for student learning.

STEM Lab

ETHS is one of the few public high schools in the country to have modern STEM labs where students can perform a wide range of experiments in courses such as biology, chemistry, and physics. These labs make it possible for students to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (or STEM) concepts using some of the most advanced research tools and laboratory equipment available. The Northwestern/ETHS Partnership Office creates opportunities for Northwestern University and ETHS to work together in STEM education through in-class and summer learning programs, and by providing mentoring opportunities for students. Many of these efforts include art and design elements as well.

South Cafeteria

The South Cafeteria is one of four cafeterias where students are assigned lunch. ETHS provides a well-balanced food program in all cafeterias, vending machines, and snack windows. Local food sourcing and sustainability are also part of this effort. Breakfast and lunch menus include a variety of organic produce grown in the school garden, the Edible Acre. A variety of recycling, composting, and smart packaging choices are used to help reduce the school's impact on the environment.

East Courtyard

Evanston High School has a number of outdoor courtyards and learning spaces for students and staff. The East Courtyard has a small reflection pond, a working greenhouse for staff, and a planetarium. The state-of-the-art planetarium can display full star-scapes for astronomy classes, and provide 3-D interactive displays to enhance learning in science, art, and history. This dynamic learning experience was made possible through alumni support and the ETHS Educational Foundation's fundraising efforts.

Advanced Manufacturing Lab

Evanston High School has several advanced learning labs where students can prepare for in-demand careers after high school in fields such as automotive technology, engineering, child development, construction, culinary arts, and manufacturing. The Advanced Manufacturing Lab makes it possible for students to use leading edge technology and receive hands-on training in engineering and manufacturing concepts. Other facilities, such as the Automotive Technology Lab, Culinary Kitchen, and outdoor Geometry in Construction build site, feature a similar hands-on, innovative approach to teaching and learning.

Art Studio

The Arts Studios at ETHS are hands-on learning environments for students to explore creative expression and innovation. The ceramics art studio is equipped with kickwheels, tables for handbuilding, a glaze area and kiln. Other studios in the school are designed for painting and drawing, photography, graphic design, multimedia, stage set design, and music production. All students have opportunities to explore the arts by auditioning for student performances, participating in afterschool clubs or activities, or supporting other Wildkits by attending school concerts, plays, and visual arts events.

Auditorium

The ETHS auditorium is a cultural and entertainment center for the high school. As the largest performance and gathering space on campus, the auditorium is the site of many student productions, school events, lectures, concerts, cultural celebrations, and performances. Other performance spaces include the Little Theatre, and the Upstairs Theatre. Each school year, people from our local community attend public events and performances in the school's auditorium and theatres. Individuals and organizations can request to rent these spaces at times when they are not in use by the school.

Counseling Office

In the ETHS Counseling Office, school counselors are advocates who assist students in identifying and achieving academic, career, personal, social and emotional goals. Counselors promote and support the educational process by helping students explore their abilities, strengths, interests and talents while planning for life after high school. Counselors interact with students and collaborate with a student support team made of psychologists, social workers, and deans. This helps provide the best educational environment and opportunities for all students.

Beardsley Gym

Welcome to Beardsley Gym! Built to seat over 2,000 people, this gym is just one of the many areas on the ETHS campus used throughout the year for physical education classes and sports events. ETHS also has a dance studio, a fitness center, and a gymnastics center to name a few. Indoor facilities include a field house, a high ropes course and climbing wall, and a regulation-size pool. Outdoor facilities include tennis courts, football and baseball fields, an outdoor track, and more. The athletics program at ETHS includes many competitive and intramural sports. Some well-known alumni can also be recognized in the Athletic Hall of Fame.

2021 ETHS Transition House

The ETHS Transition House program is one of the many special education programs and related services available to help students with disabilities prepare for life after high school. Students in the Transition House program work with ETHS staff to practice valuable life skills for independent adult living in an authentic, off-site setting. The Renewable Energy and Environmental Lab, also know as the REEL lab, is located on the second floor of this building. Here students explore ecology and environmental science topics, or test water samples from the school's outdoor Nature Center. The Nature Center features a pond, Illinois native grasses, wildlife.
