The Patty and Bo Pilgrim Chapel stands at the center of campus because Christ is the center of our purpose. The Chapel is the only white building on campus and was inspired by the First Baptist Church in America located in Providence, Rhode Island built in 1775. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday students gather in Pilgrim Chapel for worship led by our all-student worship team and a featured speaker or program during chapel services. Integrating faith into every facet of life is at the heart of what we do, because it is the heart of who we are.
As you enter or leave the DBU campus, you are greeted by the Fishers of Men statue with the inscription, “Will you follow me?” The statue serves as a reminder of the purpose of DBU – to develop Christian servant leaders who will transform the world for the glory of God. The statue is one example of the many Christian symbols intentionally placed around campus as reminders of our commitment to Christ. You can read more about all the Christian symbols on campus by clicking on the featured link on this page.
DBU focuses on developing the whole person: mind, spirit, and body. The Burg Center is the home of DBU’s recreation and many of our athletic teams. DBU sponsors 22 sports teams, including 8 club sports, 13 NCAA Division II teams, and NCAA Division I Baseball. The *Burg* accommodates 1,600 people for sporting events and houses the DBU Fitness Center with a wide selection of Cybex Assisted weights, numerous free weights, and many aerobic machines available to all students.
Join the excitement of DBU’s NCAA Division I Patriot Baseball team at Joan and Andy Horner Ballpark. With a seating capacity of 2,000 the Ballpark features multiple guest suites, party plazas, and a state-of-the-art video board for a close-up of all the action. DBU Baseball has established itself as one of college baseball’s premier programs. The Patriots have made eight consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, appeared in two super regionals, and currently boast over 25 alumni competing in professional baseball around the world.
DBU offers the transformative experience of a fully holistic education centered around the integration of faith and learning and the recognition that “all truth is God’s truth.” We challenge students to love the Lord with not only their heart and strength, but also their mind. As a primary academic facility, the Collins Learning Center (or LC for short) houses many classrooms, academic colleges, and academic support services like the writing center and advising center. The LC also has an extension of the beloved DBU Coffeehouse and a bistro for students to grab a snack on the go. "
Horner Hall replicates Congress Hall which was built in 1787 in Philadelphia. Horner Hall houses the College of Fine Arts and includes a computer lab, broadcast control room, multipurpose classroom with green screen and lighting, and a premiere recording and mixing studio. The College of Fine Arts includes majors in visual arts, communication, and music. The College draws students who have a passion and dedication to perfect their respective crafts for the glory of God. Our students enjoy high placement rates for jobs or graduate school admission.
Roberts Hall houses DBU’s College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The College is known for its rigorous standards while preparing students to impact lives for the glory of God. Small class sizes increase individual attention resulting in student success. Among our graduates, 30-40% continue to graduate school, while 70%-80% are accepted into medical school.
Modeled after Thomas Jefferson’s home, Monticello, Nation Hall greets visitors to the DBU campus with its Georgian architecture and domed roof. The Gary Cook School of Leadership resides in Nation Hall and is dedicated to developing Christian servant leaders, scholars, and global thinkers who will transform the world for the sake of Christ. The Gary Cook School of Leadership offers a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies, an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, Master of Arts in International Studies, Master of Education in Higher Education, and a Master of Arts in Leadership.
God created us for community. At DBU, you will find a genuine community of caring mentors and supportive peers to walk alongside you as you become all God intends for you to be. The Coffeehouse and Union are special places where community happens. Unique recipes created by our baristas help students get through a busy day, while creating a space for connection and friendship. A separate study space allows students to focus on their coursework or collaborate in study groups.
The Dean Learning Center was modeled after Harvard Hall III erected in 1766. Dean houses the Center for Service-Learning, Career Services, the Center for Mentoring, and DBU’s Professional Studies program. It is also home to The Sellar, another popular DBU student hangout. The Sellar features a ping-pong table, pool table, and booths where students can study together, laugh, or play games. Sellar Nights are hosted on the patio just outside the Dean Learning Center and are a fun event where students can hang out, play games, listen to live music, and enjoy some coffee and treats! "
Over 2,000 students live on campus. Campus living is a huge factor in creating the family feel you find at DBU. Residence halls house first-year students and are located on the top of University Hill. One of our women’s residence halls, Spence Hall is patterned after the Wren Building, the oldest academic building in the U.S. Located down the hill, upperclassmen experience more independence with apartment and townhome-style living, while remaining connected to all that University life has to offer. Our upperclassman housing areas also feature two swimming pools for use by all students. "
DBU’s intramural fields host all DBU Intramural Sports organized by the office of RecLife, including Co-ed softball, 4v4 football, co-ed court volleyball, basketball, co-ed soccer, 7v7 football, co-ed sand volleyball. Various other activities hosted by RecLife include a Pickleball Tournament, Greek Games, Hall Wars, Turkey Trot 5K, and Color Race.
Grab a blanket and study on the grass on a beautiful Texas day or join your friends for a live concert on the Quad. The Quad is a central hangout area for students. The large grassy area provides a perfect space for the DBU Family to celebrate together. The Quad hosts outdoor concerts, chili cook-offs, our annual Christmas Tree lighting, Homecoming events, and Welcome Week activities. The Quad also provides plenty of open areas to study, relax, or just be with friends.
DBU’s student cafeteria, or as students call it - the Caf, features an all-you-can-eat array of healthy and delicious food choices. The Caf features a Salad Bar, Sandwich Bar, Fresh Start Breakfast, International, Vegetarian, Homestyle, and Grill options. It’s the perfect place for students to have lunch with friends or grab a quick bite on the way to class. Located in the Mahler Student Center, the Patriot Café features an on-campus Chick-fil-A where students can use their Patriot Bucks to eat while meeting with a professor, friends, or a mentor.
To be a transformational leader, Christ taught and modeled that you must first be willing to serve. At DBU we seek to develop the character of Christ in our students, so as servant-leaders they can use their gifts and abilities to impact the world. Each year, DBU students serve more than 150,000 hours in the U.S. and abroad. DBU also incorporates service into every major through service-learning. Service-Learning is an educational strategy that integrates academic instruction, community service, and guided reflection from a Christ-centered, faith-based perspective to enhance student learning, foster civic responsibility, and develop servant leaders. "
Ford Village is DBU’s premiere Living-Learning Residential Community. Pedersen Residential College and the Gunn Hall Global Scholars allow students to build deeper mentoring relationships and to experience community with the goal of preparing them as servant leaders in their vocations. Ford Village is also the location of the Baptist History and Heritage Center where individual guests and groups can learn from special displays, collections, and lectures about the Baptist legacy.
DBU is truly a global university. DBU’s commitment to share the Gospel with the world is lived out by our students whether they travel abroad or stay on campus. The Sadler Global Missions Center was built for the exclusive purpose of spreading the Gospel throughout the world. The Global Missions Center is home to Global Missions, Baptist Student Ministry, and houses International Admissions. It also houses Piper Hall, a large multi-purpose room for worship, concerts, and student activities.
The International Center provides a central base for DBU’s over 500 international students hailing from over 60 countries. The top countries represented by our international students are China, Brazil, India, Korea, Taiwan, and Mexico. The International Student Center features a study area for international students, a lobby with couches where they can visit with friends, and offices for the staff who support our international students. Several events are hosted in the International Center during International Week, a time to celebrate the various cultures represented at DBU.
One of the BIGGEST benefits of the DBU campus is that it is in Dallas. Dallas is the 9th largest city in U.S. and Forbes ranked it as the #2 city for business. DBU's strategic location allows students to enjoy all the benefits of a bustling urban setting complete with multinational corporations, global ministries, world-renowned artists and cultural centers, and incredible athletic venues all a short distance from DBU’s secluded campus.
