Welcome to Alaska Pacific University, an amazing place to learn, grow, and innovate! At APU, our classrooms are not always bounded by four walls. On a boat, in the desert, on a glacier, above the rain forest canopy, working with a local business, student teaching in an elementary school or, yes, even in a classroom on campus, your education will be personalized, experiential and hands on. My name is Joey, and I'll be your tour guide today.Before we get started, let me explain the many ways you can explore our beautiful space.We will begin our tour at the entrance to the APU campus. -You can click on the forward facing arrow to start walking around. -You can jump to the next stop by clicking on the ""Next"" button. -Now, if you already know where you want to go, you can select any location by using the list OR by clicking directly on the map. -Lastly, remember that you can explore any particular location in more detail by clicking the supplemental icons.

Grant Hall has served as the main academic building since the first classes were held in 1960. In addition to classrooms, Grant Hall contains the Business, Outdoor Studies, Liberal Studies, and Environmental Science Departments. The Liberal Studies Lounge is a prime area for some deep thinking. Geographic Information Systems, Chemistry/Geology, and Biology labs are also located here; as well as a one-thousand gallon marine aquarium lab. Throw in administrative offices including the President and the Academic Dean, the Information Technology Department, an Art Gallery, a theater, student lounge, and the always appreciated Ground Theory Café, Grant Hall becomes a home base for both residential and commuter students.

Carr Gottstein Academic Center was constructed in 1992 and houses the Counseling Psychology and Health Sciences Departments. In addition to classroom space, there is a counseling observation room, digital photo lab, seminar and conference rooms, an auditorium, the CH2M Hill Boardroom, the Leah J. Peterson Gallery, and the Student Enrollment Services Department (SES). APU's SES includes Admissions, the Registrar, and Student Financial Services.

The University of Alaska-Anchorage/ APU Consortium Library serves university students and faculty. It is operated through an agreement between Alaska Pacific University and the University of Alaska Anchorage. The mission of the Consortium Library is to provide and maintain resources to support the educational and research programs of UAA and APU. Its collection consists of more than 930,000 volumes, 425,000 government documents, and 20,000 videos and films. In addition, the Library licenses over 250 databases and provides web access to the full text of more than 70,000 journals and e-books. Although getting to the library is just a short walk, materials may also be delivered to the Academic Support Center on the second floor in Atwood Center.

The Waldron Carillon can be heard across campus playing tunes on the hour. The "AMU" plaque in the center reminds visitors and community members about a bit of history. APU was known as Alaska Methodist University (AMU) prior to 1978.

Gould Hall was named for APU's founder, Peter Gould, an Aleut Methodist minister, whose vision was that Alaskans and Alaska Native people deserved access to outstanding education. The building, originally built in 1960, was formerly a men's dormitory and survived the 1964 earthquake. Today, it is home to the University's environmental, marine sciences and outsides programs and the Student Wellness Center.

At the Moseley Sports Center you will find one of the many services we offer on campus to help students stay active and have fun between classes. The salt water pool, full court gymnasium and yoga room, enable students to enjoy a variety of free activities including basketball, volleyball, yoga, meditation, archery, kayak courses, swim lessons, paddle-board yoga and pool parties, all right on campus. The Moseley Sports Center is also host to many large community pot latches and celebrations.

The Campus Fountain serves as a grand entrance to the Atwood Center, and is symbolic of our university community. During Fall Convocation, each new student is welcomed to the community and invited to participate in a new tradition by placing a small amount of dye in the fountain until it becomes a brilliant APU blue. This symbolic gesture recognizes each individual's contribution to the community, as well as the community itself.

The Atwood Center building (Atwood) was designed by architect Edward Stone, the same designer of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Atwood is the hub of campus life, housing the, Dean of Students, Residence Life, the Counseling and Wellness Center, the Associated Students of APU Office (ASAPU), the Academic Support Center, Outdoor Programs, the APU Nordic Ski Center, the chapel, the art room, the dark room, APU's climbing wall, weight room, equipment rental , and more. Take a walk to the second floor to find the Denali Grill, where you can purchase produce from APU's Kellogg Campus Farm, and relax in our newly renovated Robert B. McMillen Student Center.

Seagelhorst is APU's newest residence hall. Opened in fall 2007, it has capacity for 24 upperclassman students in apartment style suites containing 4 single-occupancy rooms, a common living space, full kitchen--so students are not required to purchase the campus meal plan, and 2 bathrooms. Parking spaces with electrical hook-ups are available for residents, as are apartment furnishings such as a bed, desk and chair, dress and bookshelf.

University Village is another housing option for on-campus, upper-classmen. The village was constructed in 1963 and consists of 9 duplexes that are occupied by students, staff, and faculty. Five of the 9 houses, which are designated for student use, were renovated in the summer of 2008 with new floor plans and updated plumbing, electrical, appliances, and furniture. This is certainly the most remote setting offered for residents, but still remains a quick walk to our academic buildings. It's not unheard of to wake up to a moose grazing outside your door or a black bear wandering by, so have your camera ready!

APU's 880 acre Kellogg campus in Palmer was a gift from Louise Kellogg. Louise was a homesteader, dairy farmer, and pilot with a love of place-based education. Including a working hay farm and forests, the Kellogg Campus sits at the foot of the Chugach and Talkeetna mountains and adjacent to the Matanuska and Knik rivers. The mixed woodlands, riparian, high alpine, and agricultural environments provide diverse and rich source-materials for learning and teaching. Housing our Master of Science in Outdoor and Environmental Education degree, a community supported agriculture endeavor and an educational farm, APU's Kellogg Campus provides students a place to enjoy, work with, and learn from our natural world.

Located on Cook Inlet in south central Alaska, Anchorage, is the state's largest city—with a population around 300,000 and home to more than 41% of Alaska's population. It is known for its cultural sites and access to nearby wilderness. Only in Anchorage can you meet a moose, walk on a glacier and explore a natural park all in one day! Anchorage combines the best of city life—with more espresso stands, per capita, than anywhere in the U.S.—coupled with the comforts of home and hospitality of the 49th State. On a clear day you can view Denali, the tallest mountain in North America.
