Outside of Webster Hall

We're here outside of Webster Hall, the original campus building, where Webster University was founded in 1915. The founders, the forward-thinking Sisters of Loretto, saw the need for women's education even before women had the right to vote. They build Webster on the ideas of, empowerment, opportunity and access. Fast forward to the 1960s: men began attending and we became a secular institution. The 1970s saw our first international campus as well as increased service to adult learners. In 1983, we officially became Webster University. Today, we are a truly global university with almost 20,000 students studying at Webster locations in North America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Small, highly interactive classes encourage innovation, collaboration and self-expression in a dynamic and diverse learning environment.

Maria Hall - Housing

At Maria Hall, you'll experience the best of both worlds. This secure, all-freshman residence hall is an original building, but it was renovated--top to bottom-- in 2008. Maria Hall is all suite-style, and each suite consists of two double bedrooms connected by a bathroom. It's here, at Maria Hall, that you likely form lifelong friendships with your suitemates and others down the hall. Through your Resident Assistant, or RA, you'll get to know each other through organized events and you can gather in your floor's kitchenette to compare notes over snacks, pizza, or coffee.

Library

The Library is a 21 million dollar facility. This beautiful and state-of-the art resource houses over 300,000 volumes of books, rare books, journals, videos and more. It's also the worldwide hub for Webster library services at our campuses around the globe. No matter your study style, you'll find a comfortable and quiet place to soak up knowledge. Or you may want to use our MediaScape offering. Here you can share computer screens while working on group projects. After an intense study or work session, you may need a pick-me-up. At our CyberCafe, you can choose from premium coffees, flavorful smoothies, sandwiches and salads. The CyberCafe contains a computer lab and is open 24/7 with a student ID.

Sverdrup Hall

Welcome to Sverdrup Hall, home to the School of Communications. If you're into film or photography, radio, TV, or print journalism, you'll learn your craft here. We have our own radio station and TV station as well as student-run newspaper and student life magazine. But School of Communications students aren't the only ones who frequent Sverdrup. If you're interested in a semester or more abroad, you'll want to visit the Study Abroad Office on the second floor. Webster's study abroad program is ranked in the top 2% in the nation. Students who live off-campus hang out at Sverdrup between classes in the lounge, complete with couches, TVs, fridge and more.

Visual Arts Studio

We're now visiting the Visual Arts Studio, which hosts the Department of Art, Design, and Art History. Around campus, you'll often hear us refer to the department as DADAH. DADAH offers a wide variety of art courses with the goal of preparing our students to successfully encounter the contemporary art world and fostering a sense of inclusion within a broader art community. Here, you'll find studios are open and collaborative, with spaces for graphic design, ceramics, drawing, photography, sculpture, and more. The Hunt Gallery, located within the building, offers further amenities by hosting the Artists Lecture Series, professional art exhibits, and student driven exhibitions.

Hi, welcome to the University Center, also referred to as "the UC." If you're like me, you'll spend a lot of time here. There's always something going on and the UC Information Desk is a great place to learn what's happening on campus or around town. It's also where you can access our commuter friendly Bike Share program. The bike share program offers students, faculty and staff access bicycles to be used on the college grounds and throughout the Webster Groves area. Overall, the UC is a great place to study, grab a late-night bite and hang out with friends. And speaking of friends, the ones you make while you are here are likely to come from a variety of countries. In fact, hanging from the ceiling are flags that represent our worldwide student population. Currently, we have over 140 flags on display.

In the University Center, or UC, you'll want to familiarize yourself with Crossroads - our second largest campus dining option. Just like at Marletto's, the Cyber Café, and our grab and go stations on campus, both meal plans and payment options like cash and credit or debit cards are accepted. You'll find three convenient fast-casual options to choose from, with something to satisfy every craving! Another nice benefit of Crossroads? They're open late if you have a night class or group project that keeps you busy through most of the evening.

Webster Village Apartments

Eager to try apartment living? If you're at least a sophomore, you may want to live at Webster Village Apartments. You can choose from a variety of floor plans. The efficiency suites are a small studio apartment perfect for two people. Or if you'd prefer something roomier for two, you can apply for a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom unit. Want to surround yourself with a greater number of friends? Check out the 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom options. But no matter which apartment you call home, it will come fully furnished and with access to the multi-purpose clubhouse featuring convenient laundry facilities, movie rentals, and yes, a pool!

West Hall - Housing

Along with Maria Hall, West Hall is a secure, all-freshman living space. West Hall was built in 2006 and it's set up suite style. A typical suite consists of two double bedrooms connected by a bathroom. When you apply for housing, you can reserve a loft kit to make your suite feel even more spacious. You can have TVs and a mini fridge in your suite; you'll find a lounge and kitchenette on every floor. These are great places to hang out and your floor's Resident Assistant, or RA, will plan weekly activities so getting to know each other will be easy.

East Hall - Housing

Welcome to East Hall. East Hall is home to students students with at least a sophomore standing. This residence hall was constructed in 2006 and it's perfect for extroverts. You can apply for a 4-person or 6-person suite. The 4-person suite comes with four individual bedrooms and two baths. The 6-person suite comes with three double bedrooms and two baths. Like all of our residence halls, your security is always important. You'll swipe your ID at the main entrance and all guests must sign in. You'll find convenient parking at the Garden Park Plaza Garage.

Multicultural Center and International Student Affairs (MCISA)

Recognizing and celebrating our variety of cultures and experiences is important at Webster University, and the Multicultural Center and International Student Affairs office leads the way. The mission of MCISA is to improve the overall quality of life for students through educational, cultural, and social programs. All Gorloks are encouraged to participate; MCISA is particularly beneficial to first-generation students, international students, and minority populations. They offer Advising and Advocacy, Diversity Training and Workshops, Immigration Advising, Orientation and Cultural Adjustment and so much more. Their calendar is jam packed throughout the year with the International Festival, Cup of Culture, Black History Month and Women's History Month, among many other programs. Through our counseling and life development, campus ministries and health and wellness services, Webster is committed to optimizing your mind, body, and spirit. Our confidential and complimentary counseling and health services are committed to supporting our student's faculty and staff through any seemingly major or minor personal issues. Campus ministries are accessible to students from all denominations and traditions. Webster's Health Services center provides medical treatment for minor injuries and illness and offers referrals to local physicians or hospitals as needed. Our wellness center offers drug and alcohol education and prevention and peer support groups.

Career Planning and Development Center

The Webster Career Planning and Development Center isn't just for seniors. In fact, you're encouraged to visit it from day one to plan where you'll go next. They can help you research careers, learn about career trends and even help you find a part-time job off-campus. This is also where you'll come to find on-campus jobs for work-study and more. When you've settled on a career, they can help you build your resume, practice your interview skills and give you tips on dressing for success. This is also the place to find out about possible internships. Check the Calendar of Events for Job Fairs and other events throughout the year.

Public Safety

Every Gorlok is familiar with our Public Safety office. That's because everyone comes here to get a student ID and parking permit. But Public Safety is much more than those things. Our public safety officers are trained in CPR, First Aid and Crisis Management. They're also the ones who respond anytime someone activates emergency call boxes located across campus. You'll recognize the boxes by the blue light on top. These officers also serve as campus escorts from dusk until dawn. The good news is that our students feel very safe here, in our home community of Webster Groves, known for its quaint, neighborhood-type setting.

East Academic Building (EAB)

The East Academic Building, also called the EAB, houses the George Herbert Walker School of Business & Technology. In addition, it hosts classes and speakers from many disciplines. It was sustainably built to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, gold certification. It's impressive from every angle. Not only does the EAB have two rain gardens, but two green roofs with over 22,000 plants growing on top too. Wow! And it's equally impressive on the inside. Classrooms are designed to encourage collaboration and support different learning styles -- seminar and discussion, small group work, computer labs, and more. And its technology capabilities are state-of-the-art. Individuals can control the televisions and are free to plug-in, view podcasts, and work on group presentations.

Browning Hall Interdisciplinary Science Building

Browning Hall, our Interdisciplinary Science Building, is the latest large-scale addition to Webster's campus and opened fall of 2017. Browning houses the academic departments of Anthropology and Sociology, Biological Sciences, International Language and Cultures, Nurse Anesthesia, Nursing, Psychology, Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, The Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian Studies, and English as a Second Language. It hosts 27 state of the art laboratories in over 85,000 square feet. These include a human anatomy lab, kitchen lab, computational lab, and a qualitative and a quantitative lab. Other features include a 129 seat auditorium, which provides additional event space on campus, and a sunken outdoor green area for both recreation and relaxation.

Community Music School (CMS)

At Webster University, we're really excited to be home to the Community Music School. The School was founded in 1925 and has always offered outstanding community-based education to students of all ages and abilities. Through the years, the Community Music School has been located in a variety of locations, but since 2006, its headquarters have been right here on campus, bringing music students of all ages into its rehearsal spaces. It shares a building with the Department of Music. The building features two rehearsal halls, 15 teaching studios and a 470-seat concert hall. When you come to Webster, try to see a concert here. You'll be impressed.

Loretto-Hilton Center

The Loretto-Hilton Center is home to Webster's Conservatory of Theatre Arts and Department of Dance. Webster gladly shares the Loretto-Hilton Center with the nationally known Repertory Theatre of St. Louis and Opera Theatre of St. Louis. In fact, Webster's Conservatory is the only undergraduate program in the country to have a partnership with four different professional theatre companies -- the Rep, the Muny, Opera Theatre, and the Shakespeare Festival. Our actors, actresses and dancers get to perform in this 1,000-seat theatre. They also perform in the Studio Theatre located below the main stage. And all students, Fine Arts or otherwise, can enjoy free and low-cost shows here throughout the year.

Thompson House

Webster music majors and minors love the historic Thompson House. Performances take place in our beautiful, 60-seat Recital Hall on the main floor. But rehearsals, lots and lots of rehearsals, take place long before any performance. To get you ready for your audience, The Thompson House has 21 practice rooms with pianos. And they're always reserved for students enrolled in applied music instruction or music theory classes. We also have 10 studios in the building and 3 classrooms.

Pearson and H. Samuel Priest Houses

The Pearson and H. Samuel Priest Houses sit on the eastern edge of campus. Both are historic former mansions acquired by Webster University to add additional character and charm to our already beautiful campus. Webster's small class sizes fit perfectly with the intimate classes in both buildings. English and Philosophy majors love the cozy setting for their courses in the Pearson House. It's also home to Green Fuse, our literary magazine dedicated to poetry, fiction, drama and more. Students who love History, International Relations and Political Science are frequent visitors to the the H. Samuel Priest House.
