Welcome to the University of Texas at Austin, the flagship university of the University of Texas System located just a quarter of a mile from the Texas State Capitol. Founded in 1883, it is the educational home to more than 50,000 undergraduate and graduate students, making it the fifth largest university in the country and the largest in Texas. A talented faculty consists of more than 2,700 members, some of whom have been recipients of awards like the Nobel Prize and the Pulitzer Prize. UT Austin was one of the original "Public Ivy" schools, operating as the site of significant academic research. Its campus is home to seven museums and seventeen libraries alone! Let's take a look at the campus!

The Union Building houses an array of student services on its five floors, including a theatre, food court, campus store, Starbucks, and computer labs. There are also many rooms that students can reserve for club and organization meetings. The Hospitality Center on the ground level is the go- to place for questions about the University or the city of Austin itself.

Goldsmith Hall is home to The School of Architecture, which is just one of seventeen colleges and schools at UT. Its undergraduate and graduate programs have been consistently ranked in the top 10 nationally. Students can pursue degrees in architecture, sustainable design, and historic preservation, just to name a few of the offerings.

Often abbreviated as the FAC, the Peter T. Flawn Academic Center is home to a variety of academic resources like the Undergraduate Writing Center, Liberal Arts Career Services, and the Computer Writing & Research Lab. Spread out among several rooms, there are nearly 200 computers and many multimedia services available to students. A renovation in 2012 added more study spaces and upgraded the Campus Computer Store, which is also housed within the FAC.

Battle Hall is home to the Architecture & Planning Library, as well as the center for American Architect & Design. Through seminars, symposia, research efforts, and exhibitions, the Center seeks to expose current architecture and design issues and further the innovations being made in these creative and exciting arenas. It is also responsible for publishing multiple book series like CENTER and Centerline.

The Main Building sits in the middle of campus and is easily recognizable by its 28-story tower, which contains a carillon of fifty-six bells at the top. It is a treasure trove of architecture features including marble floors, wrought iron balustrades, ornate light fixtures, and beautiful stained glass windows. The Main Building is one of several administration buildings on campus, housing the offices of Accounting, Admissions, Financial Affairs, the President, and the Registrar.

Founded in 1957 by a visionary UT English professor, the Harry Ransom Center is an internationally renowned humanities research center with a collection of nearly 1 million books, more than 42 million manuscripts, 5 million photographs, and 100,000 works of art. Highlights include a Gutenberg Bible, one of the earliest surviving photographs, original works by Frida Kahlo, and Robert De Niro's archive. The Center offers exhibitions to the public, and students have the opportunity to conduct research on the manuscripts, rare books and visual materials in the collections by visiting the Reading and Viewing Room upstairs.

Named after a former University President, Homer Rainey Hall was constructed in 1942 to house the Department of Music. The Jessen Auditorium is used for concerts and lectures, with enough space to seat 300 people. A recent renovation in 2009 brought a new acoustical paneling system, new carpeting, and reupholstered seating to the space.

The Graduate School of Business Building (GSB) is one of several buildings home to the McCombs School of Business, which is rated as the best business school in Texas. Students can enroll in the well-regarded MBA program on a part-time or full-time basis, with the option of pursuing an Executive MBA in Mexico City. In addition to the MBA, there are also doctoral degrees in areas like Accounting, Finance, and Marketing.

The Perry-Castaneda Library is the main library on campus and boasts an impressive 8 million volumes, making it the fifth largest library affiliated with an academic institution in the entire country. There are many special collections focusing on poetry, maps, and U.S. Government documents, all of which students can utilize for research purposes. In addition to borrowing materials, the Library also has a full calendar of classes and drop-in times for learning how to best find and use print and online resources.

Student athletes at UT are known as the Texas Longhorns and they compete in the Big 12 Conference. Formerly the home of the basketball and swimming teams, today the Gregory Gymnasium is where the women's volleyball team plays. Additional facilities inside the Gymnasium include a jogging track, basketball courts, racquetball courts, a rock-climbing wall, a weight room, and a cardio room.
