We're at the Sundial, a very special place on campus that highlights our campus beauty and one of our longest standing traditions, since our founding in 1809. Rubbing the turtles on this sundial provides good luck to all of our students who are headed to a test or exam. This university and its traditions are all tied to the people who call it home. Kissing your loved one under the arch at midnight binds you together forever. Miami is thought to have the largest percentage of married alumni, known as Miami Mergers. In 2009, Miami broke the Guinness World Record for the most people renewing their wedding vows at once under the Upham Arch. Our seal holds another well known tradition. Any current student who steps on the seal is doomed to fail their next exam. Of course that luck can be reversed by visiting the Sundial and rubbing the turtle heads.
