Community Service

Akin Gump is deeply committed to engaging with and supporting our local communities and in turn, supporting our employees who do the same. Each year, Akin Gump teams up with City Year across the globe for a firmwide “Community Service Day.” Here, our Human Resources team meets with a representative from City Year to gear up for this year’s day in action.
Firmwide Resource Groups

Our firmwide resource groups are a natural extension of our collegial and collaborative culture. Formed to encourage an ongoing dialogue of shared interests and concerns between our lawyers and professionals, our FRGs forge closer bonds between colleagues while fostering ideas for more creative and innovative ways to solve complex challenges and improve working environments. With this in mind, for example, our Washington Women’s Resource Group hosts monthly luncheons, among other regular events such as client development activities, fireside chat series, charity drives and celebrations for individual successes within the group.
Pro Bono Matters

Akin Gump has a well-recognized tradition of commitment to pro bono legal work. Our lawyers and business services professionals are encouraged to dedicate their time and resources – over 30,000 hours by DC alone annually – to various charities and public interest organizations across the city such as Tahirih Justice Center, Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless, Whitman-Walker and Human Rights First.
Café - Wellness & Wellbeing

At Akin Gump, the health and wellbeing of our business services staff and attorneys are a priority. The demands of a career and personal life can overwhelm even the most seasoned professional at times. Our office was designed to address many of those needs, which is why we have a state-of-the-art café along with outdoor terrace spaces, a fully-equipped gym, and a childcare center right here in the office. Beyond our gym facilities, we’ve devised other ways to focus on employee health, so for example, our on-site and online offerings include a wide range of self-care and mental health counseling resources which address work/life integration, healthy eating, financial management, mental distress and substance abuse, among other topics.
Capitol Hill Space

So many of the matters in our D.C. office are connected to the federal government. We are proud to be consistently ranked as one of the top government relations practices in Washington, and our team includes former members of Congress, congressional staff and high-ranking agency staff. Our regulatory practices work closely with our top-rated public law and policy practice on matters related to health, trade, American Indian, tax, cybersecurity, energy, environmental, financial services, communications and transportation policy, among others. Here, members of our team meet in our Capitol Hill space, blocks from The Capitol, to prepare for the day’s meetings.
Open Collaboration Spaces

Our office is collaborative in nature and by design; there are many open spaces where we can work together to generate the innovative ideas and creative strategies our clients need to address their challenges and achieve their goals. Providing a high level of service for both our internal and external clients is considered everyone’s responsibility and requires both lawyers and members of business services to work together towards this common goal.
