My name is Jaci, and I will be your guide as we tour the Eccles School and some of the surrounding areas of the university. Upon entering the Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building, we are in the center of the school's flagship structure. The building takes a student-centric approach, with reservable rooms for study groups, large classrooms, and dedicated undergraduate and graduate student spaces. Additionally, many study rooms feature TV monitors for projecting and white-board walls for ideating. Students spend the majority of their time at the Eccles School in this space – it's an innovative space well-suited for learning, collaborating, innovating and hanging out.
Jake and Jeanne Okland Trading Room

The Jack and Jeanne Oakland Trading Room, located in the Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building, is a special feature of the Eccles School. The Eccles School is home to the Student Investment Fund, an initiative that provides undergraduate students with hands-on investment experience. Students participating in the Fund manage a $600,000 portfolio of exchange-listed equities, ETFs and money market investments. Students perform both individual and group research projects, learn about various analytical techniques and make presentations before leading finance practitioners. Over its more than 20-year tenure, the Fund has grown to more than $600,000 and has outperformed the S&P 500 over the life of the program.

Stepping into a classroom, we enter a dedicated learning space for students. Within the Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building, classes are hosted in more than 20 different rooms, several of which are equipped with computers, including Bloomberg terminals to access the latest stock market information. Classrooms contain double screens for easy visibility from any seat in the house, and many classrooms feature stunning outdoor views, such as this one.

The Eccles School's close proximity to the mountains and outdoor activities is highlighted here on the Madsen Café patio, located on the fifth floor of the Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building. Students are literally minutes away from world-class hiking, biking, climbing, skiing and more. A quick hike between classes or spending an evening in the mountains is not at all uncommon for our students. Additionally, this view highlights another part of the Eccles School campus, the Robert H. and Katharine B. Garff Building. The GARFF building hosts our four MBA programs, Business Career Services and several institutes and centers.

Another unique feature of the Spencer Fox Eccles Building is the Bill and Pat Child Family Community Hall outdoor patio, off of the seventh floor. Showcasing stunning views of the Salt Lake Valley and downtown Salt Lake City, you can see the Eccles School is just as close to downtown's bustling business sector as it is to the Wasatch Mountains. The patio also offers a great view of Salt Lake City's Avenues Historic District – a popular area for students to live, visit unique cafes and hike into nearby City Creek Canyon.

Here we step into the Robert H. and Katharine B. Garff Building, the latest addition to the Eccles School campus. We're in the lobby, where students can access Business Career Services. There, students meet with their career coaches as they plan the next step in their careers. The Business Career Services suite includes rooms designed for both one-on-one and video interviews, and each major or program has a dedicated career coach who helps students prepare to talk with employers. The GARFF building is also home to the Eccles School's four MBA programs, the Marriner S. Eccles Institute for Economics and Quantitative Analysis and the Goff Strategic Leadership Center.
Lassonde Studios

The Lassonde Studios, a nationally ranked hub for entrepreneurship, is a special place for students of all majors and passions to come together to live, create and launch companies. We are in the Neelman Hangar, a twenty thousand square foot makerspace where students turn their dream businesses into reality. Students have access to 3D printers, laser cutters, a full-wood workshop and commercial sewing machines, in addition to a variety of workshop tools. Above us are four floors of themed living space where 400 students call home. Whether you want to immerse yourself in an existing business project, or go solo with your own start-up, Lassonde Studios is the place to get started.

It's a beautiful day out on the patio at Lassonde Studios, in the heart of campus and one of the most innovative living and learning spaces in the world. University of Utah students of all majors, undergraduate or graduate, can apply to live above the makerspace at Lassonde Studios in four themed residential floors. Residents of the Studios have single and double rooms to choose from, as well as pods or loft options. Rooms all come with modern furniture, internet and cable, as well as housekeeping and laundry facilities. Aside from private living spaces, each floor has a common space, which is uniquely themed, for residents to work, collaborate, play and hang out.

University of Utah students also have access to the George S. Eccles Student Life Center, a student-centric space that engages students with the campus community through recreation, relaxation, wellness and socializing. Amenities include a 50-meter pool, indoor and outdoor leisure pools, large indoor hot tub, 320-yard indoor running track, four-story climbing wall, 15,000-square-foot fitness center, outdoor mezzanine, outdoor fire pit, five sport courts, racquetball courts, four group fitness studios and a combative room. Students can also access a branch of the University Federal Credit Union, grab a bite at the Freshens Café, visit the Center for Student Wellness and meet for athletic training.
J. Willard Marriott Library Plaza

The plaza east of the J. Willard Marriott Library, the University's main library, is the center of campus. During the semester, a variety of food trucks offering Indian food, tacos and mini donuts, to name a few, frequent the plaza. Directly to the east is Gardner Commons, a newly constructed building that services more than 14 departments, houses the Hinckley Institute of Politics and features rotating food vendors in a multi-restaurant café.
Presidents Circle

Arriving at Presidents Circle, we're standing right where the University originated in 1851. The School of Commerce and Finance, the original name of the Eccles School, established in 1917, was housed in President's Circle. At the end of the row of these historic buildings is Kingsbury Hall, the performing arts center on the University campus. Some of the world's top artists, performing groups, politicians and world leaders have headlined Kingsbury's stage. Across from President's Circle, students frequent the locally owned University Pharmacy and its deli, alumni-owned U-gurt frozen yogurt shop, and the classic college pizza joint, the Pie Pizzeria.

Perched above the university is Red Butte Garden, a nature conservatory spanning 100 acres. Capture spectacular panoramas of the city, meander through the botanical gardens, and purchase tickets to their summer outdoor concert series. Adjacent to Red Butte is the Natural History Museum of Utah, where you can time-travel back to the times of dinosaurs, and see the largest collection of three-horn dinos in the world. And just a stone throw's away are multiple hiking trails to explore. One popular trail is The Living Room Lookout Trail, a 2.2 mile hike, cleverly named because rock slates are put together to form chairs and couches overlooking the expansive valley.
Huntsman Center

The John M. Huntsman Center is the University of Utah's major indoor arena and home to several sporting and community events each year. The women's gymnastics team, men's and women's basketball teams and the women's volleyball team play their home games here, with free or low-cost tickets available for students. Large University and community events also take place here, such as graduation and commencement, keynote speakers including the Dalai Lama, and non-college sports events
Rice-Eccles Stadium

Rice-Eccles Stadium is the University of Utah's flagship outdoor sports arena and serves as the home football field of the Utah Utes. Each game, more than 45,000 fans pack the stadium in their red-and-white gear to cheer on the Utes. Rice-Eccles Stadium was also the main arena for the 2002 Olympics Opening and Closing Ceremonies, held in Salt Lake City. In addition to football events, the stadium has been a venue for concerts, extreme sporting events including the X-Games and moto-cross, and even weddings.

Here in downtown Salt Lake City, just a 10 minute drive or train ride from the University, the city comes to life. We're surrounded by City Creek Center, a world-class outdoor shopping mall located in the historic district of downtown, and the Eccles Theater, a prime location for Broadway productions and other entertainment events. Nearby is the Vivint Smart Home Arena, the home-court of the Utah Jazz NBA team, as well as a number of restaurants and bars. Throughout the year, downtown Salt Lake City is home to exciting events including the Downtown Farmer's Market, the outdoor Twilight Concert Series and the Sundance Film Festival.
Sugar House

Salt Lake City's Sugar House neighborhood, named in 1854 for the area's sugar beet factory, is a charming area bustling with abundant apartment housing, large parks, a movie theater, a summer farmer's market, unique boutiques and well-known shops, as well as home-spun and chain restaurants and bars. Sugar House is a popular area for Eccles School students to live – it's just a 15 minute drive or bus ride from campus, and a short walk to all these great amenities.
Snowbird Mountain Resort

In a mere 30-minute drive, you can escape the city and find yourself surrounded by the Wasatch Mountains. Snowbird Ski Resort is one of five mountain resorts a short drive from campus and features year-round activities. In the summer, Snowbird offers hiking, world-class climbing and an aerial tram that takes passengers to the mountaintop. In the fall, stop by for the annual Oktoberfest celebration. During the winter, skiers, snowboarders and snowshoe-ers hit the slopes to experience the Greatest Snow on Earth. Whether you are an avid outdoors-person or want to learn, you'll find some of your best opportunities to experience Utah within minutes of the Eccles School campus.
