In this video, Dr. Joel Gruver, assistant professor in the Western Illinois University School of Agriculture and director of Western\'s Allison Organic Research and Demonstration Farm, talks about his and his colleagues\' cover crop research at WIU\'s Allison Farm. Every year, Gruver and the WIU School of Ag host an Allison Farm Field Day to highlight and showcase various farming techniques that can be put into practice on conventional and organic farms. Nutrient management is the theme for the 2013 Allison Farm Field Day, which is slated for Thursday, August 8. According to Gruver, the Field Day is slated from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Dakin Farm shop and the Allison Organic Farm located near Roseville (IL). \"There are many opportunities for improved nutrient management on organic and conventional farms,\" Gruver explained. \"This year\'s program will offer a balance of technical information and on-farm observations relevant to anyone interested in the advantages of feeding both the soil and the crop.\" After registration and welcoming remarks from 9-9:30 a.m., the first scheduled speaker is Tom Ferguson, a manure specialist (manureinc.com/) whose company manufactures a pelletized chicken litter product evaluated on the Allison Farm this year.
