Researchers across UC San Diego are collaborating on a new project called WIFIRE to help firefighters get a jump on fast-moving wildfires. The project merges satellite imagery and real-time data from sensors in the field with computational techniques such as visualization and modeling to predict where and how fast a wildfire will spread. Participants include researchers at the San Diego Supercomputer Center, California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2), and the department of mechanical engineering.
