To watch him play was like looking at a work of art. So to adequately look back at the legend of Willie Mays, I used this as my inspiration
From it’s basic concept, we set out to make a unique approach to the open. We set out to find frozen iconic moments of May’s career, and re-created them through pencil and paper. Wanting to bring a mix of textures; the images were altered to give an iron-ink feel, drawn on a heavily textured paper, animated through flowing ink spills.
Nearly 40 drawings were made, and the selection process was made after subsequent editorial sessions. All sketches, composites and the final edit were assembled by me, as well as several other sub-elements for show.
Partial inspiration for this piece was came from the wonderful end-credits created by Prologue for Sherlock Holmes.
