The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library is a collaboration between the City of San Jose and San José State University, and is the first of its kind. It is the largest library west of the Mississippi River to be built at one time. Located on the northwest corner of campus, the library acts as a liaison between students and citizens of the City of San Jose, and is a unique meeting ground for all types of people, young and old. The building is over 475,000 square feet of space on eight floors and houses approximately 1.6 million volumes, with space for up to 2 million volumes.
