SIU’s newest building is designed to bring together the university’s key student services in one location to provide seamless, one-stop service. Students and visitors are welcomed by a four-story atrium entryway lit by a 45-foot, 6-inch fixture of color-changing orb pendants. The university employed green concepts during construction of the building, including recycled materials in the roof, water-efficient landscaping, and elevators with a regenerative drive system. The building also is designed to take advantage of available natural light – artificial light supplements rather than replaces day light.
