We are now standing in Woolsey Rotunda. The Rotunda serves as a connecting point for two major buildings on campus. On one side is Commons. It's the largest of our fifteen dining halls as well as the site of major campus events such as the annual 80s-themed dance and Yale's Iron Chef competition. On the other side of the Rotunda is Woolsey Hall. Woolsey Hall is a 2,700-seat auditorium where major speakers come and where major campus performances take place. The Rotunda itself is full of the etchings of names of Yale alumni who have been killed in battle. Those etchings served as inspiration for Maya Lin, Class of '81, when she was designing the Vietnam War Memorial to be placed in Washington, DC.
