Gallagher Student Center - Home to Student Activities

Welcome to Gallagher Student Center – aptly named, as it is truly the center of student life here on campus, and a great place to get a sense of the strong community at Xavier. Here, you'll find a buzz of activity. With its iconic clocktower visible for miles, Gallagher sits between the residence halls and the academic mall on campus, and it is a 75,000 square-foot hub perfect for gathering, socializing, studying, and all kinds of events. It is headquarters to our 150-plus clubs, and is also home to a performing arts theatre, a bookstore and convenience store, a printing station, and a bank. You'll find the Offices of International Education and the Center for Diversity and Inclusion in this building, as well as the Dorothy Day Center for Faith and Justice and the Student Activities Council. Additionally, Ryan's Landing on the ground floor offers multiple dining options that hit the spot when you're craving a bite. There is a welcome desk always ready to help you out, whether it be with reserving a room for your club meeting, utilizing the laptop rental program or applying for one of the student employment opportunities offered in the building. Gallagher is quite literally at the center of all things related to student life, and it always operates with Musketeers in mind.

Health United Building (HUB) - Health, Academics and Rec Center

The Health United Building, or the "HUB," is an exclusive partnership with local health-care provider TriHealth, and is intended to celebrate and support health and wellness as an expression of Xavier's mission and foundational value of cura personalis — that is, 'care for the whole person.'  It features a brand-new recreation center for students and staff, and comes complete with a four-lane pool, locker rooms, three fitness studios, three full-size multi-purpose sport courts, and state-of-the-art fitness equipment. You can catch a pickup game of basketball with friends, join an intramural sports team, or take a group fitness class. The HUB offers endless opportunities to stay active and grow your personal community. Of course, it also houses the health and counseling services — so it's the place to keep you feeling at the top of your game whenever you're feeling well, and to care for you whenever you're not.

Let's not forget that the HUB also has a substantial academic component. It's the home for many academic programs and offers state-of-the-art classrooms for students majoring in the health services fields, including nursing, occupational therapy, and health services administration.

Xavier Yard and Residential Mall (on-campus living)

Located between Gallagher Student Center, the Hoff Dining Commons, and the Residential Mall, the Xavier Yard is a perfect place to enjoy the weather in all seasons. Here, you'll be able to catch the sun, enjoy outdoor games, rest, and study — and if conditions aren't right for all that, it's still a perfect spot for a good snowball fight. Every year, this is where our Fall Club Day is held, and it even offers an outdoor stage for various performers and events.

If you look around, you can see some of our residence halls, including some of the on-campus housing reserved exclusively for first-year students. At Xavier, you know you'll never go it alone. Every res hall has well-trained RAs who not only offer many programs to help you grow your social circle, but also serve as support systems and guides in community living as you find your niche and adjust to college life.

Hoff Dining Commons

Xavier's award-winning James E. Hoff Dining Commons, or "the Caf" as it is affectionately called by students, is a favorite gathering spot on campus and offers an all-you-care-to-eat menu as well as seating for up to 700 people. Wondering what there is to eat? Know that the Caf serves up a ton of variety, including home-cooked entrees, a salad bar, pizza and sandwich stations and vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.  On top of being a great place to spend time with friends and build your on-campus community, the Caf is one of the most sustainable dining establishments you'll find on any campus. We use locally grown produce and herbs. There are reusable to-go boxes, and there is even a waste-removal process that composts leftovers. And if you have a late-night craving, Xavier's very own Pizza ATM serves up fresh slices 24/7 just outside the Caf.

Cintas Center

The largest building on campus, the Cintas Center is the university's primary athletics facility with a 10,224 seat multi-purpose arena, an academic support wing for student-athletes, office space, and a large conference center. Xavier men's and women's basketball teams, as well as the volleyball team, play their home matches here in the building, and more than three million fans have passed through the gates to enjoy Xavier events since the opening of the facility.  It is also consistently listed as one of the toughest places to play in the country with routinely sold-out crowds packing in to cheer on the Musketeers. However, Cintas is about more than just our Division I athletics — it bookends your campus experience. All of our students begin and end their academic experience in the Cintas Center — it is the setting for the Presidential Welcome and Community Celebration, which kicks off freshman orientation and our signature Manresa program for first-year students.  Four years later, the Xavier experience comes full circle at Cintas Center when Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement ceremonies take place inside the building.

Academic Mall

This is the Academic Mall, where you'll spend a majority of your class time here at Xavier. The mall is made up of Alter Hall, Edgecliff Hall, Schmidt Hall, Hinkle Hall, Albers Hall, Logan Hall and the McDonald Library. At the end, you'll see Our Lady of Peace Chapel, a small but beautiful chapel enjoyed by many community members for its intimate space to support prayer and reflection. As a student, you will spend time traversing between these buildings and others, and you'll likely see friends spread out across the mall as you make the switch between classes. You'll also be more likely to occasionally bump into your professors when out and about. Many professors' offices are located in Hinkle Hall, and if you ask around, you'll find that most students enjoy and benefit from being able to get to know their professors one-on-one during office hours.

Alter Hall - A Main Classroom Building for Core Subjects

Alter Hall is a main classroom building and home to most core subject areas such as English, philosophy, and math — it's almost guaranteed that you'll have at least one class here, as all students usually have a course in Alter at some point throughout their time at Xavier. Located in the heart of the academic mall, this renovated and sustainability-focused building is a tribute to Xavier's commitment to being an environmentally-friendly campus. Classrooms offer whiteboards and chalkboards that cover three of the four walls in each classroom, and all come equipped with two projector screens. All furniture is on wheels so your professors can transform classrooms to best fit the learning style for that subject. In the evenings, classrooms become study rooms for students. In fact, many students even connect their computer to the projector and watch a movie or play music while they do homework with friends.

Williams College of Business

With its signature two-story atrium, scrolling stock tickers, high-tech classrooms, Wall Street-style trading room, and state-of-the-art Bloomberg financial database terminals, Smith Hall keeps Xavier at the forefront of excellence in business education. Considering that Cincinnati is host to multiple fortune 500 company headquarters, students don't have to go far to put into practice the real-world experience they gain in a facility made to introduce students to the corporate world. Smith Hall is home to eleven undergraduate majors, as well as four master's degrees, including a Master of Business Administration. Here, students are offered excellent internship programs, access to the Smith Scholars Honors program, the Business Profession program, and even a distinguished speaker series that brings world-renowned speakers to campus to generate discussion and stimulate ideas that further develop students into well-rounded professionals. In fact, did you know Xavier marketing students created an ice cream flavor you can now buy in the local grocery store? Experiences like this are just the beginning of the opportunities offered in the Williams College of Business.

Conaton Learning Commons

The Michael J. Conaton Learning Commons connects to McDonald Library on the south side of the Academic Mall. You'll find the library connection desk here, as well as classrooms, study spaces, the Honors Lounge, and Kennedy Auditorium. Conaton is also our one-stop shop for academic support on campus. This building is home to the Digital Media Lab, IT support, the Writing Center, the Language Lab, and also is the place you can sign up for tutoring help. Additionally, this is where you'll find your very own success and career coach here on campus, and their job is to help you navigate all four years here at Xavier and beyond.

University Station - A multi-purposed complex of retail, dining and living spaces

Located on Cleaney Avenue, University Station is a mixed-use development a short walk from the heart of campus with a variety of dining and retail options. The complex features apartment-style, off-campus living options for students with amenities like a private movie theatre, a community swimming pool and off-street parking. The All For One Shop sits at the corner of the east side of campus and is the place to stock up on the best Xavier gear, electronics and gifts for friends and family.  While you're there, you can also grab a coffee from our very own Starbucks or sample from the local eateries.

Bellarmine Chapel

This place has come to be known as the center of worship on campus for both students and the surrounding community, but we just call it Bellarmine Chapel. While concerts and speaker events are sometimes held here, it is primarily a place for gathering and worship. Catholic mass is offered for students on Sundays at 4pm and 10pm and it's also offered daily for the broader community. Students can get involved with the choir, help plan services, and continue to grow in their personal faith — whatever it may be — while they're here. For all our geometry or architectural buffs coming to Xavier, you'll be fascinated to know that the chapel features a 122-foot roof span in the form of a hyperbolic paraboloid that doesn't require support from the walls beneath. Not only is it beautiful, but it makes for some great acoustics.

Beyond Victory Parkway

Campus continues across Victory Parkway, where you'll find the baseball and soccer fields for our Division 1 teams, as well the Champion Center, a support center and home for many of our athletes. You'll also find the campus buildings that house Xavier's renowned psychology and education programs — we even have our own grade school Montessori school which teaches local kids and provides an ideal learning opportunity for our education students.

Cincinnati

Maybe you've heard a few things about Cincinnati — baseball, flying pigs, mouth-watering chili. But trust us, there's more. Even if you've been a loyal subject of the Queen City your entire life, we promise this city is an even greater experience with your college friends. Plus, when you're ready to find an internship or job, there's no shortage of opportunity. It also helps that we're only minutes away from multiple Fortune 500 companies and local hospitals, all for which Xavier has been a feeder school over the years as they seek out new talent. A few hours is the only thing between you and other major cities if you want to make weekend trips to get away, or visit friends.

Of course, if you don't feel like making a drive, you could stay in the city to enjoy one of our cultural or food festivals, enjoy a concert downtown, watch one of our professional sports teams play or explore our extensive list of beautiful parks. Come and check it out for yourself!
