Established in 1867 as a land-grant institution, WVU has a three-part mission: advancing education, healthcare and prosperity for all. We’re starting our tour at the Mountainlair student union, just steps from our beloved Mountaineer statue. Inside the Mountainlair, there arecomfy areas to hang out, and the food court has a ton of variety. The upper ballrooms host career fairs, guest speakers and hundreds of events. Behind the Lair is the Plaza, which is a great space for playing football with your friends, studying in the grass, or simply chilling (plus people bring their dogs to play). WVU is ranked in the top 5% of Colleges with the Best Student Life in America by Niche, so there’s always something to do and friends to find.

Chambers College of Business and Economics

This is the brand-new home of the John Chambers College of Business and Economics. Reynolds Hall includes experience-driven labs like a real trading floor for stocks, Minecraftlike VR about the global supply chain and a cybersecurity lab focused on machine-learning and AI. The social stairs (like at the Googleplex) are a real business environment, a place where students can hold meetings, collaborate on projects or relax between classes. And to help you ace that interview you’re sure to get, the Career Closet offers free business attire.The Chambers College is one of the top-ranked undergraduate business schools in the U.S., with over 20,000 alumni worldwide, and offers 25+ degree programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, including several online programs. Unique programs, such as a statewide business plan competition, hone entrepreneurial skills and help grads land jobs with Fortune 500 companies like Amazon, IBM, Sysco and NASA.

Downtown Campus Library

The Downtown Library is the academic heart of campus. This is the ultimate place to study. There are books for absolutely everything — online and in print — and our librarians are amazing at helping you locate even the most elusive topic. The library has a café, lots of group study room, and cozy reading nooks for the perfect studying ambiance. And if you need to check out a computer, camera, or other multimedia equipment, the library has it. Next to the library are two important science buildings: White Hall, to your right, and Clark Hall, to your left. White Hall is one of the most modern physics buildings in the U.S. It has a clean lab, laser labs, an optical and radio telescope and a rooftop planetarium that’s open to the public. Clark Hall is filled with classrooms, labs, research instruments, and offices for the C. Eugene Bennett Department of Chemistry.Across the street from Clark Hall is Colson Hall, where you can visit the English Department or stop by the Eberly Writing Studio to learn how to improve your writing, speaking and editing skills.

E. Moore Hall

Elizabeth Moore Hall, or "E. Moore," is a great place for studying or relaxing between classes. It houses the Division of Student Life, including Commuter Student Programs and a Commuter Lounge. And there’s even a pool, gym and dance studio. To your left is Purinton House, a meeting spot for international students. It’s also where you’ll find the Office of Global Affairs, which coordinates WVU international programs and serves the needs of our international community. We currently have students from 112 countries. Stewart Hall is directly across the street from E. Moore. Stewart Hall was built 1902 as WVU’s first library. Today it’s home to the President’s office, University administration and the Office of Accessibility Services. Fun fact: there are faces carved into the building’s stone exterior. Can you find them?

Woodburn Circle

This is Woodburn Circle, the site where WVU was founded in 1867. All three buildings in Woodburn Circle – Martin, Woodburn and Chitwood halls – are on the National Register of Historic Places. When WVU was an agricultural college, students planted crops in the center of the circle as part of their agricultural lessons. Today, students walk across the circle when heading to class, or relax on the surrounding benches to enjoy the sunshine, people-watch and study. Woodburn Hall – the building with the clock tower – is WVU’s most iconic building. The center section was built in 1876, and the two wings were added in 1911. Inside Woodburn are offices for the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences. To your right is Chitwood Hall, where you’ll find WVU’s world language programs, and to the left is Martin Hall, the oldest building on campus. Martin Hall is home to one of our most innovative colleges – the WVU Reed College of Media.

Oglebay Hall

Oglebay Hall houses the WVU forensics program and includes state-of-art labs, like this Microscopy Laboratory. This is where students learn principles and techniques of microscopy, and how to analyze glass, hairs, fibers, and other types of trace evidence. Our forensic science students also learn in the largest forensic science and crime scene training complex in the U.S. It includes four crime scene houses, a vehicle processing garage, ballistics test center and outdoor venues. The WVU Forensic and Investigative Science program was developed in collaboration with the FBI; we were the first school in the country to offer this degree, and we are the only one to offer bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in forensics.

Life Sciences Building

As the home of the Biology and Psychology departments, the Life Sciences Building has technologically advanced classrooms and labs, as well as a greenhouse, mental health clinic, faculty offices and common areas. This part of campus is a heavily traveled crossroads for students walking between Sunnyside residential areas and Downtown academic buildings. And if you look closely you can see our famous Life Sciences stairs. The climb from the Life Sciences green to Woodburn Circle is guaranteed to get your heart pumping!

Welcome to the WVU Coliseum. This is where we roll out the gold and blue carpet for Mountaineer basketball games – and for gymnastics, volleyball and wrestling matches. WVU is a member of the NCAA Division I and the Big 12 Conference. Our student-athletes compete in 18 intercollegiate varsity sports – most of which have their facilities on Evansdale near the Coliseum.

Canady Creative Arts Center

The College of Creative Arts is small enough for students to get one-on-one attention, but big enough to provide all the tools needed by budding artists — like these students at work in the Ceramics Studio. Canady Creative Arts Center facilities include the 1,400-seat concert theater, as well as art galleries, computer labs, visual art studios, darkrooms, and theatre and costume design shops. Nearby is the Art Museum of WVU, a beautiful space to engage with art and see many of the University’s 4,000-plus works collection.

This is your destination for student health and wellness. Inside you'll find counseling and wellness services, a pharmacy and a student health clinic that offers wellness visits, vaccinations, x-rays, lab services and more.The section of the building to your left is home to programs of the College of Applied Human Sciences. Recreation Center

The Student Recreation Center is a very popular place and has something for everyone – like this incredible aquatics area with a six-lane fitness pool, leisure pool, and cloverleaf-shaped spa. There’s also a 50-foot climbing wall, an indoor track, weight and cardio equipment, sports courts, group exercise classes, five lighted tennis courts and two soccer fields. And the best part? The Rec Center is free for WVU students.

Evansdale Crossing hosts a lot of different student services – and great spots for relaxing and grabbing a bite to eat. You can visit the Mountaineer Hub, a centralized location for services like financial aid and student employment. Evansdale Crossing has a Barnes & Noble, restaurants, classrooms, a Media Innovation Lab, and the LaunchLab, a resource center for student-entrepreneurs. There’s also the Evansdale Visitors Center that offers campus tours with friendly, knowledgeable student guides.

Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources

With state-of-the-art facilities, the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources offers hands-on learning experience so students can build their futures and create something to show for it. The manufacturing lab is part of the Lane Innovation Hub in the Engineering Sciences Building. Fabrication areas (for rapid and electronics prototyping, advanced manufacturing and metal 3D printing) support classes, student projects, research and entrepreneurship.And to help you ace that interview you’re sure to get, the College’s Career Closet offers free business attire.

Evansdale Library

The Evansdale Library is just a quick walk from the agriculture and engineering buildings. It’s the perfect spot for dining in the café or staying up late to study. During the regular academic year, it’s open Sunday through Thursday, 24 hours a day – and closes at 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Agricultural Sciences Building opened in 2016 and houses the Agricultural Sciences program in the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design. The agriculture program started in 1867 when the University was founded and is our oldest academic unit. The Davis College is known for offering all the resources of a large university in a small-school atmosphere; 23 majors include fashion, dress and merchandising, agribusiness management, landscape architecture and environmental and community planning.

If you’re in the mood to study like you’re in the great outdoors, this is where you want to go. The WVU Natural History Museum fills the lobby of Percival Hall, which connects to Allen Hall. Students in the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Design and the College of Applied Human Services take classes here.

Health Sciences North

The Health Sciences Center is our primary teaching and research center for health sciences. This is where we educate health professionals, conduct research, and provide healthcare to improve lives. The Health Sciences North section of the complex houses the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry. J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, WVU’s teaching hospital, is located next door and provides comprehensive medical services and a level one trauma center.

In Health Sciences South, you’ll find the Schools of Nursing and Public Health. This section of Health Sciences also houses the Dave and Jo Ann Shaw Center for Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety — or STEPS Center. Students practice procedures, interprofessional communication, and new technologies in the STEPS Center before beginning actual patient care.

WVU College of Law

The WVU College of Law is the only law school in the state and was founded in 1878. WVU Law prepares top lawyers and dedicated leaders for careers that span public service, private practice, government and business. The College is among the best schools in the country for practical training, environmental law and intellectual property law, according to preLaw Magazine. Students get real-world experience during simulations in Lugar Courtroom, externships, and the College’s law clinics, where students provide more than 40,000 hours of free legal aid each year.
