Welcome to Washington and Lee University. We begin our tour on the historic front campus. The centuries-old Colonnade is the original academic heart of our campus and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1972. While the classrooms within Newcomb, Payne, Washington, Chavis, and Tucker halls retain their 19th-century charm, they're thoroughly accessible and equipped for modern teaching and research. Our classes are small, averaging only 15 students, allowing for personalized attention from world class scholars. Opposite the Colonnade is University Chapel, completed in 1868 and recently renovated, which serves as a space for significant events and notable speakers.
