Trophy Point is one of the most visited places on West Point, making it a portal through which the Academy connects with America. Trophy Point gets its name from the artillery pieces here on display, that were captured during the Revolutionary and Spanish-American Wars. It tells the story of West Point and its strategic connection -past, present, and future- to the idea that has become the United States of America. Over the years, Trophy Point has been the site of *barracks, *cadet artillery training, the West Point Hotel, tennis courts, an amphitheater, and most strikingly Battle Monument, which was dedicated in 1897.

Davis Barracks
Tour stop audio transcript
At West Point, all cadets live on campus in residence halls, called "barracks." Cadets are placed in companies, and each company lives together in its own barracks area. Two or three cadets live in each room in the seven barracks buildings, which are centrally located, so cadets have easy access to all their classes and activities. Upper class cadets immediately take new students under their wing, showing them the ropes of cadet life. As a Cadet, you join the West Point Family from your first day on campus. Army Officers oversee the barracks, provide mentorship, and ensure safety for every student.

Occupying the entire first floor of Washington Hall, the "Cadet Mess" is a 4,300-seat dining hall consisting of six wings that branch from the central balcony called the "Poop Deck." The entire Corps of Cadets dines together, at the same time, family style at 10-person tables, for every breakfast, lunch, and Thursday dinner. Serving nutritious, fresh, and tasty meals to that many hungry people at the same time is a monumental task, but it's just business as usual for the Cadet Mess staff.

Post Flag Pole
Tour stop audio transcript
Reveille starts every duty day at West Point with the brisk raising of the Flag. The flag will sometimes be flown at half-staff as a symbol of respect, mourning, distress, or in some cases, a salute. The daily retreat ceremony at 1700 hours, signifies our respect for the flag and the nation. Retreat is initiated with the playing of "Retreat" followed by Cannon Fire and the bugle call of "To The Color." Reveille, flying of the flag, and retreat ceremonies are conducted across the nation at all military installations, and unifies our force and our nation. Flags displayed for patriotic effect at night, must be properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.
