Minute Maid Park

Minute Maid Park is the home of local baseball heroes, the Houston Astros. The stadium is one of the first retractable-roofed ballparks which means you can enjoy the game in the sunshine on cooler days. The site where Minute Maid Park stands now was originally Houston's Union Station, a hub of rail transportation in the city, so when you walk into the Union Station entrance, look up to see some of the restored architecture today. When the Astros score a homerun, a small train with a coal car filled with oranges moves along a railway as homage to the sites history and Minute Maid's most famous product, orange juice.

Space Center Houston is the NASA Johnson Space Center's official visitor center, and is home to exhibits detailing space exploration, a restored Saturn V rocket, and Independence Plaza – a replica of the Independence shuttle mounted on an original NASA 905 shuttle carrier. Visitors can enter the shuttle replica and plane to learn about the historic shuttle era and its impact on current and future exploration. The Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory is an astronaut training facility and neutral buoyancy pool operated by NASA. As the largest indoor body of water in the world, it holds 6.2 million gallons of water, and allows training astronauts to simulate the microgravity that they experience during spaceflight while working on a life-size mock ups of ISS components.

The Houston Museum District is located south of Downtown Houston, and is made up of 19 museums all within walking distance of each other. Roam the Paleontology Hall at the Museum of Natural Science, discover works of art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and see the gorillas, giraffes, and elephants at the Houston Zoo. Or discover the fascinating history of buffalo soldiers at the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum, see what the inside of a body really looks like at the Health Museum or entertain your kids at the Children's Museum of Houston. Discovery Green is a 12 acre green space in the Downtown Houston Convention District. It's a great place to relax, grab a bite, and enjoy the view. With exhibits and activities all year long, Discovery Green stays lively no matter the month. In the winter, the small lake is transformed into an ice-skating rink and hot chocolate is served close by. During the summer, enjoy yoga and other fitness classes on the lawn, attend a free concert, or even watch a movie on the green.

From the moment you arrive at the Menil Collection, you will notice what a peaceful oasis this is in the heart of the city. Located in the Montrose neighborhood, the Menil Collection is an art museum made up of the vast collection donated by John and Dominique de Menil. Stroll through the main building and view works of art from antiquity to Pablo Picasso to Andy Warhol before having a picnic on the park, or exploring the Rothko Chapel, the Cy Twombly Gallery, and Byzantine Fresco Chapel nearby.

Transport yourself to another world with the Houston Ballet. The Houston Ballet is the fourth largest ballet company in the country and performs everything from the classic ballets to contemporary choreography. During the holiday season, join the locals who make a yearly trip to enjoy their incredible production of The Nutcracker. The Houston Ballet performs at the Wortham Theatre Center, one of the several theatres located in Downtown Houston.

Easily one of the most recognizable landmarks in The Galleria neighborhood, the Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park is opposite of the Williams Tower. The Waterwall stands at 64 feet tall, and is shaped like a horseshoe. As the water cascades down, the Waterwall recycles 78,500 gallons every three hours and two minutes. Don't miss an opportunity to stand in the middle of the horseshoe during your visit! Between the Waterwall and the Williams Tower, take a break from shopping and relax at the park. The Waterwall and this park are popular spots for photography.
