Welcome to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse; a top rated regional public university in Wisconsin! Our campus is located on the scenic Western side of the state near the Mississippi River. I'm Erin, a Radiation Therapy student from Milwaukee, WI. I'll be your tour guide today. Since UWL's campus is condensed into 128 acres, trips from one building to another take only a few minutes. The Admissions Office is often the starting point for many students as they begin their college search process. Our office hosts a variety of visit options - from campus tours to Admissions Information Sessions or even our large Campus Close-up event.

In case this is your first visit, here are some tips to help you get started:

Student Union: "The U"

Opened in January 2017, the Student Union, named "The U" is considered to be the "campus living room" and is an excellent place for socializing, getting meals with friends, taking breaks between classes, and attending late night study sessions. In the U, you'll find a handful of campus dining options, the university bookstore, textbook rental, and the Scholarship Resource Center. You'll also find a movie theatre, e-cafe, our student activities center, and plenty of study lounge and meeting room spaces located throughout. There are over 200 student organizations and clubs students can join, making up a very involved and engaged student body at UWL!

Traditional Residence Halls

Our campus has eight traditional-style residence halls – Laux, Sanford, O. White, Coate, Angell, Drake, Hutchison, and Wentz Halls. First-year students can live in any of our traditional-style halls and will have access to plenty of resources to aid the transition to college and making new friends. Included in each residence hall room are: two beds, two bookshelves, two closets, two desks, two dressers, and a refrigerator. The bathroom and shower spaces are communal and are located on each floor. In the basement area of each hall, you will find social and study lounge spaces, a kitchen, and laundry facilities.

Suite/Apartment Halls

In addition to the eight tradition halls, UWL has a suite-style hall – Eagle Hall – and an apartment-style hall – Reute Hall. Eagle Hall includes two halls that are divided into smaller communities of 40 residents. Students live in a modern suite-style room; which houses 3 students instead of the traditional 2 and shares a bathroom with another suite. The apartments in Reuter Hall feature 4 individual and lockable bedrooms as well as a shared kitchen, living room, and bathroom. Reuter has gender inclusive housing, so anyone can live together regardless of gender identity. Reuter is great on-campus living option for upper-class, transfer, and international students.

Recreational Eagle Center (REC)

Welcome to the Recreational Eagle Center, or as our students refer to it as "The REC." The REC is a multipurpose facility that provides space for intramurals, recreational activities, and a childcare center. The building includes basketball and volleyball courts, a running track, aerobic exercise space, strength and fitness center, climbing wall, and the Outdoor Connection for rental of recreational equipment. We also have a new E-zone area, equipped with every video game console you can think of. This facility is already included in student fees, therefore there is no additional charge for students to use it. The REC also offers many student employment opportunities.

Student Fieldhouse

The fieldhouse opened in January 2023 and is home to an NCAA-standard 200-meter track, a walking and jogging track, modern locker room space, meeting room space, and much more! This space allows our men's and women's track and field team to host indoor national and conference championship meets on campus. While this space is primarily an athletic facility, it is open to all students and is able to be utilized for leisure, student recreation, and coursework alike!

Veterans Memorial Sports Complex

Welcome to the Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex, a multi-use venue. The Veterans Hall of Honor is at the entrance of the stadium and pays tribute to the contributions of America's veterans. It includes a 6,200 seat stadium, a synthetic turf football field and running track, a soccer and lacrosse field, locker rooms, training facilities, recreation and intramural fields, and more. The various fields and practice facilities not only accommodate athletes, but our active student body. Additional fields are located 3 blocks north of campus for our intercollegiate baseball and softball teams, along with Marsh Quest, the High Ropes Challenge Course.

Mitchell Hall

Mitchell Hall is the home to Intercollegiate Athletics and the Exercise and Sport Science department. This facility includes a swimming pool, three basketball courts, a dance studio, a human performance laboratory, and a thirty-eight hundred square foot strength training room for athletes. The field house provides not only an indoor track, but also a climbing wall, and space for tennis and volleyball. Students will utilize this building for academics, athletics, and recreation. If you are interested in being a student athlete, Mitchell Hall is a resource for you.

Whitney Dining Center

Whitney Dining Center is the main dining hall on campus. Students can use their meal plan here, in our Student Union, and at various other locations around campus. Whitney is home to the all-you-can-eat, buffet dinning option on campus, serving all meals. Mondo's Subs is also located in the Whitney Dining Hall and serves made-to-order subs and wraps. Finally, we have our convenience store or "C-Store", located next to Mondo's Subs. Here you will be able to purchase a variety of things, from soft beverages to snacks all by using your dining dollars. Lastly, UWL has a Registered Dietitian on staff, for students with dietary restrictions.

Wittich Hall (College of Business Administration)

Wittich Hall, built in 1916, is the second oldest building on campus. It originally housed the university's Physical Education program but is now completely renovated on the inside and home to the College of Business Administration. In this space, you will find: the Small Business Development Center as well as classrooms, computer labs, interview rooms, group study spaces, and faculty offices. The departments of Accountancy, Economics, Finance, Management, and Marketing are located in this building.

Prarie Springs Science Center

Opening in 2018, the Prairie Springs Science Center is a state-of-the-art laboratory and research facility. This facility features 59 laboratory spaces – instructional and research labs. More specifically, students will find cadaver labs, a microscope imaging facility, wet labs for aquatic science, a nuclear resonance spectroscopy facility, and much more! This is the hub for undergraduate research at UW-La Crosse and provides students with ample opportunities for hands-on experiential learning. Next door is Cowley Hall, which houses lab and classroom spaces and the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Geography & Earth Science, Mathematics, Microbiology, and Physics. You will also find a planetarium in Cowley Hall.

Health Science Center

The Health Science Center houses the Student Health Center, which offers accessible healthcare services to all full-time students at little to no cost. Strong partnerships with local healthcare providers allow the university to provide the services, training, and hands on experience to meet personal and workforce needs. This facility is also home to the Clinical Laboratory Science, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, Medical Dosimetry, Recreation Management & Therapeutic Recreation, Nuclear Medicine Technology and Radiation Therapy programs.

Truman Lowe Center

The Truman Lowe Center, named after UWL alumna Truman T. Lowe, houses the art, music, and theatre arts departments. Within this facility, you will find a recital hall, theatre, art gallery, and a handful of music and art studio spaces. You will find students working in metal, ceramic, sculpture, and printmaking studios. Each year, the art gallery hosts several exhibitions, featuring both professional and student artists. These exhibitions are free and open to the public. The Theatre Arts Department produces 6 to 8 shows each year, ranging from Broadway-level productions to student-created works. Participation in on-stage and back-stage activities is open to all UWL students.

Academic Buildings

The Mississippi Valley Archeology Center is home to UWL's Archeology and Anthropology programs. We are one the few schools to have such a program as well as the only one in the Midwest. Graff Main Hall is the oldest building on campus. Graff houses both academic spaces and administrative offices. The WING Technology Center is home to the Eagle Help Desk, serving as the single point of contact for technology questions of students and staff. Morris Hall is home to UWL's School of Education. Wimberly Hall is home to the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities.

Centennial Hall (Academic and Student Support)

Centennial Hall is one of our largest academic buildings, with 46 classrooms and two auditoriums. Centennial also houses many academic and student services, including Academic Advising, Career Services, Counseling and Testing, Multicultural Student Services, and International Education. The Hall of Nations is located on the first floor and holds the flags of 44 countries, representing the diversity of UWL's international students. In addition, the building's variety of classroom styles feature advanced technology and flexible seating to accommodate interactive teaching. The building is also a leader in the UW System for its integration of sustainable features, such as rain gardens, solar panels, and natural light.

Murphy Library

Welcome to Murphy Library. This building is more than just volumes of books. Library staff are available to help you locate what you need, including research journals and additional resources. The Murphy Learning Center is located on the second floor of the library and provides free tutoring and academic assistance to all students. It makes for a perfect on campus job too! Don't forget about Murphy's Mug - a coffee shop providing hot and cold beverages, bakery items, and other grab and go items, necessary for a boost while studying.

Hoeschler Clocktower

We are standing at the center of campus. The iconic Hoeschler Clock Tower becomes a crossroad for students going to classes, to new experiences, and pursuing lifelong goals. This is a common place to see familiar faces and meet up with friends. This space is filled with students for events held by the campus and various student organizations throughout the year. But be careful – our students live by the campus superstition that if you walk underneath the clock tower, you will not graduate in four years!

La Crosse Community

This wraps up our tour of UWL, but we also recommend all students to explore the La Crosse area. Explore *Grandads Bluff*, the highest peak in the entire area. Go checkout the historic downtown area, filled with amazing restaurants and shops. Relax by the Mississippi river at *Pettibone* beach. Head to Riverside Park to enjoy live music, different events, or just a picnic with friends. It's important to not only see our campus, but also to see the amazing city of La Crosse. We hope you come and visit soon, to truly enjoy the sights and sounds of UWL and La Crosse.
