Welcome to the University of Texas at Tyler and its beautiful 204-acre campus in the Eastern Texas city of Tyler. With just over 5000 undergraduates and 1300 graduate students, you will have the advantage of a university-caliber education with a small college feel boasting an impressive 16:1 student-faculty ratio. Students choose a major in one of five colleges within the university: Arts and Sciences, Business and Technology, Education and Psychology, Engineering and Computer Science, and Nursing and Health Sciences. Robert R. Muntz Library

The Robert R. Muntz Library houses a collection of more than 200,000 books, 140,000 of which can circulate among the hands of patrons. Electronic resources are equally impressive, with 160 databases and 100,000 electronic periodicals available to students. The Archives and Special Collections Department preserves historically significant materials and artifacts, such as the original shovel used in the groundbreaking of UT Tyler. There is a nearby Library Garden with wireless internet capabilities so that the warmer seasons can be enjoyed outside without having to sacrifice any computer time.

Fine Arts Complex

The Fine Arts Complex is a fairly new addition to the campus, finished in 2010 and improving the offerings of the Department of Art and Art History, which fall under the College of Arts and Sciences. Students can pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Arts, a Masters of Fine Arts, or a Masters in Art History. The Meadows Gallery has exhibition space for student shows and the Complex recently hosted the Texas Sculpture Network Exhibition and Conference, all making for a well-rounded arts education.

R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Art Center

Regardless of your area of concentration, there are a plethora of theatre and performing art events at your fingertips. The Don Cowan Fine and Performing Art Center has hosted large-scale Broadway performances of Miss Saigon, Cats and Aida, a lecture series featuring a U.S. Senator speaking, and other visitors like Bill Cosby, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and Huey Lewis and The News. Your student life will no doubt be enriched by the myriad of creative opportunities and performances held here.

David G. and Jacqueline M. Braithwaite Building

The David G. and Jacqueline M. Braithwaite Building, not far from the University's main entrance, is where you will find the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. It was constructed in the first place in response to a nursing shortage in the area, resulting in UT Tyler needing more space for its already existing nursing school. In addition to classrooms and laboratories, there are also multiple bed-skills and table-assessment areas that simulate several realistic hospital environments.

Hudnall-Pirtle-Roosthe Building

This building's tongue-twister of a name, Hudnall-Pirtle-Roosthe, is abbreviated as HPR and is ironically home to the Department of Communication, as well as the Department of Human Resource Development and Technology. Majors found within these departments lead to a variety of career paths in professional, business, government and office environments. The HPR Building is connected to the Biology, Education and Psychology Building, so classes in all of the above departments can be scattered throughout both facilities.

James H. Stewart Administration Building

Conveniently located near a residence hall and center for student life is the James H. Stewart Administration Building. Here you can find a "one-stop shop" in the Enrollment Services Center, which combines admissions, financial aid, and course registration services, so that everything you need to commence your UT Tyler education is under one roof. The offices of Academic Advising and Guidance Counselors are also found in the Administration Building, in the event that you need some extra support.

University Center

Student life and activities are concentrated within the University Center, which contains many amenities, including a cafeteria, Chick-fil-A, Subway, the Barnes and Noble bookstore, Career Services, and plenty of space for studying and socializing. The Student Life and Leadership Offices have their headquarters here, boasting more than 85 organizations, such as fraternities, sororities, Student Government, honor societies, and those related to religious groups, the arts, politics, and specific academic fields. There's truly something for everyone.

Louise Herrington Patriot Center

Sports teams at UT Tyler go by the name of "Patriots" and the 127,000 square foot Louise Herrington Patriot Center is home to a lot of these teams. A state-of-the-art facility, it includes the basketball and volleyball courts, an indoor jogging track, cardio- and circuit training areas, a heated swimming pool, and racquetball courts. Between the men's and women's teams, UT Tyler athletes have won 15 championships in their division and became part of the NCAA in 2007.

Ornelas Residence Hall

This Residence Hall is the only dormitory on campus, with a couple of apartment complexes being the only other housing options available. Standing five stories tall and centrally located, this residence is broken down into double and triple occupancy suites, each suite having its own bathroom and coming furnished with beds, dressers, desks, closets, book shelves, and night stands. On the first floor, you will find a laundry room, a study area, and a common room. A residence coordinator and multiple assistants live under the same roof, should you have any dorm-living related problems.

Harvey Lake

If you live in UT Tyler's only dormitory, your windows may look out toward picturesque Harvey Lake. Located directly in the center of campus, your daily walking will probably include going by this park-like gem. Lake- side chairs and shady spots can provide alternatives to the library and dorm room when it comes to reading and studying, but if you're looking for something a little more active, canoeing is also permitted. Just watch out for all the turtles that call Harvey Lake home.
