Welcome to the University of St. Thomas in Houston. My name is Maria, and I'll be your tour guide today. Let's get started so that you can experience some of the special places on and near campus. The tour showcases the facilities and landmarks that make UST such a wonderful place for living and learning. At St. Thomas you'll balance a friendly campus life with exciting big city living. Set in the heart of the nation's fourth largest city, our location in the Museum District puts you within walking distance or a short ride to world-class museums, restaurants, theaters, great shopping, the symphony, ballet, and opera - a thriving cultural district.
Built in 1912, the Link-Lee Mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This mansion was among the first buildings when the University opened its doors in 1947. Over approximately 70 years, the University has expanded to 19 city blocks and 3,500 undergraduate and graduate students. Today the Link-Lee Mansion serves as an administration building and houses the President's Office.
Stumpf Plaza

As you walk from the Link-Lee Mansion to the Academic Mall, you'll see the Stumpf Memorial Plaza, which features water walls and fountains on Yoakum Boulevard. The plaza was funded by the Wortham Foundation in honor of Edward A. Stumpf, a notable Houston civic and political leader and former board member of the University. Step past the fountain and enter the University's Academic Mall.
Malloy Hall

Malloy Hall is the home of the School of Education, Department of English and Department of Modern and Classical Languages. The hall was originally planned by world-renowned architect Philip Johnson during the mid-1950s as part of the Academic Mall. The hall's opening in 2001 marked the completion of Johnson's plan.
Robertson Hall

Robertson Hall is home to the Department of Chemistry and Physics and the Department of Environmental Science Studies. The Chemistry and Physics Department is accredited by the American Chemical Society. Students who take the full ACS-approved curriculum in chemistry or biochemistry will be certified by the ACS, which provides a widely recognized verification of the quality of your education.
The Environmental Studies program is unique among environmental programs in the United States; it educates students about the moral imperative to care for the earth, especially as advanced by Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI.
Anderson Hall

Anderson Hall is home to the Department of Biology and Bioinformatics. This building has five teaching labs, one primary research lab and two secondary research labs. In addition, there is a theater space used for science classes.
Cullen Hall

Cullen Hall has a performance hall and houses the Music Department. Students study music theory and take private lessons in some of the many practice rooms. Recitals are often held in Cullen Hall and the University community can enjoy monthly mid-day performances featuring student ensembles.
Doherty Library

Doherty Library is a 50,000-square-foot facility with a collection that includes more than 250,000 books, 80,000 periodical subscriptions, access to more than 225 databases and inter-library loan access. Students can do online research here, study in the quiet reading room or ask for advice from reference librarians.
The library lobby is a venue for art and history exhibits and receptions. The second floor houses the Hugh Roy Marshall Graduate Philosophy Library and the basement contains extensive study space, new state-of-the art classrooms, computer labs and a theater.
Jones Hall

UST's Jones Hall has a 300-seat auditorium on the first level for lectures and talks. The Department of Fine Arts & Drama performs children's plays here, and it has hosted speakers such as former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, archbishop of Galveston-Houston. Upstairs there is a black box theatre where students perform plays and musicals each semester.
Welder Hall

UST's Cameron School of Business is located in Welder Hall. The Cameron School is part of an elite group of institutions that have achieved AACSB International accreditation, and UST is the only private university in Houston to achieve accreditation of both undergraduate and graduate business programs. The business school offers bachelor's degrees in accounting, finance, general business and marketing. UST also offers an MBA and a master's degree in accounting, with evening and weekend classes, as well as a five-year BBA/MBA program.
Chapel of St. Basil

The Chapel of St. Basil, with its stunning gold dome and seven-foot cross towering 70 feet over the campus, provides a quiet place for prayer and reflection. Situated on the north end of the Academic Mall, the Chapel faces Doherty Library representing the connection between faith and reason. The Chapel and the Academic Mall were designed by renowned architect Philip Johnson.
Labyrinth

The Labyrinth and Meditation Garden are adjacent to the Chapel of St. Basil. The labyrinth was modeled after the Cathedral of Chartres labyrinth in France. Traditionally, walking in the labyrinth recreates a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
Bookstore

The University Bookstore is located in Moran Center. Save money by renting your textbooks or visit early to get used books at a discount. The Bookstore will even buy back books year-round.
Crooker Center

Students congregate in the Crooker Student Center where the Crooker Center Food Court, Subway Sandwich Shop and a variety of student services can be found. The Office of Student Activities and several student organizations occupy the first floor Crooker Center. Meet your student senators in the Student Government Association, join a club or start your own in the Council of Clubs and learn about exciting events planned by the Student Activities Board.
On the second floor, students can take advantage of services offered by the Mendenhall Achievement Center.
Guinan Residence Hall

UST's contemporary Guinan Hall is a fun residential experience focused on community living. You will still find plenty of quiet space when you want it. Guinan Hall features 300 rooms for double and single occupancy. Each room includes a private bathroom, a microwave and fridge, cable TV access and a patio or balcony overlooking the campus or the relaxing courtyard. Guinan Hall has a computer lab for its residents, dozens of study spaces, a lobby with games and a TV, a community kitchen and a chapel.
Jerabeck Center

The John D. Jerabeck Athletic and Activity Center offers all the facilities you need for sports, recreation, and physical fitness. The Athletic Center is the site of UST's NAIA Men's and Women's basketball and Women's volleyball games, with an arena that seats more than 800 people. There are racquetball courts, cardio and weight rooms, a dance studio and locker rooms. Outdoor facilities include two tennis courts, a swimming pool and a sand volleyball court. UST also has men's and women's soccer and golf teams.
Science & Health

The Center for Science and Health Professions is a proposed complex to support programs in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, environmental science and the new school of nursing.
Designed by WHR Architects, the Center would be equipped with the latest tools of the trade to inspire and prepare students to excel in their chosen careers in the science and health fields. The design continues Philip Johnson's architectural legacy at UST and enhances the beauty of the campus.

Campus Ministry serves students of all faiths and is attentive to the spiritual life of the campus community through the sacraments, spiritual guidance and counseling in the Christian tradition. Campus Ministry also has a lot of fun. You'll often see our chaplain, Fr. Mike Buentello, CSB, donned in a cowboy hat and cooking briskets or roasting a pig for events in his custom barbecue pit, "Holy Smoke."
Nursing Advanced Simulation Lab

The School of Nursing's Advanced Simulation Lab gives advanced students hands-on clinical experience to hone their critical thinking and patient care skills. The six-bed nursing unit allows students to practice different medical scenarios with cutting-edge, high-fidelity mannequins that replicate patient disease symptoms and responses to care. The simulation lab is designed to mimic the patient's bedside in facilities where nursing students receive their on-site clinical experience. Advanced skills for OB, Pediatrics and Critical Care nursing are also taught here.
Young Hall

Young Hall is a residence hall for upper-class and non-traditional students. With 16 apartments, residents can choose from one of three floor plans that include: full-service kitchens with a dishwasher, stove and refrigerator; hardwood floors in living and dining room; and carpeting in the bedroom.
Young Hall also features on-site laundry, central courtyard, weekly custodial service, and monthly planned events that seek to enhance the growth of all community members.
Herzstein Center

Located next to the Admissions Office, the Herzstein Enrollment Center houses the Registrar, Scholarships & Financial Aid and the Business Office. This building is named for Albert H. Herzstein, a renowned local philanthropist.

The Office of Admissions, located in the Monaghan House, serves undergraduate freshmen and transfer students. The Office of Admissions is the first building you'll get to know on campus. The building is as welcoming as the counselors who will guide you through the application process and answer all your questions about the University. The Office of Admissions hosts Celt Preview Days on campus, when students and families can learn about St. Thomas, tour the campus and even stay overnight in the Guinan Residence Hall.

The Donoghue House is the residence for the Basilian Fathers. They are priests of the Congregation of St. Basil, the order that founded the University of St. Thomas in 1947. Many of the priests who live here work and teach on campus. This is also the home of the Basilian Fathers' Scholasticate, or formation house, recently relocated to Houston from Toronto, Canada.

Hughes House was the boyhood home of millionaire engineer, aviator and film producer Howard Hughes, Jr. The movie Aviator is the story of Howard Hughes' life.
