Welcome to the University of South Florida College of Engineering. I’m John Rippetoe. I’m one of 7,000 students at USF getting a degree in Engineering. I love going to school here because I get so much hands-on experience in my classes. There are lots of ways to get involved, like XLab and the Engineering Expo. I get to be part of local and global research projects. The College of Engineering has 10 different bachelor’s programs, 12 master’s and eight doctoral programs. The College also has 11 major research centers and institutes. One of my goals is to build robots for planetary exploration when I graduate.

Hi, I’m Rachel Reinhardt. I’m a mechanical engineering student at USF. I’m originally from Michigan so I really appreciate how sunny and warm it is here. I’m the President of our annual Engineering Expo. It’s a hands-on, interactive event. I’m also the Co-President of ESTEAM. That’s the Education in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics organization. I get to mentor younger students who are interested in becoming engineers. I had two internships at Lockheed Martin and they actually just offered me a job. When I graduate I’ll become their new Systems Engineer Associate.

Welcome to the electrical engineering labs at USF. I’m John Bentley. I want to help people with spinal cord injuries, blindness and Parkinson’s disease by building small implants for their brains. These neural probes have electrical channels that work with the nervous system. In this lab, I use imaging techniques to evaluate microdevices that I built. My electrical engineering advisor really helps me understand how different engineering departments can work together to improve people's lives. I conduct research that combines my passion for electrical engineering, materials engineering, and neuroscience.

My name is Emily Cardella. I’m studying Computer Engineering. I’m a Tampa native, and my Dad is a proud engineering alumnus so, I was born and raised to be a Bull. He is the one who inspired me to pursue engineering. I’m in the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, an Engineering Student Ambassador, and a member of The Order of the Golden Brahman. I also play golf on the NCAA USF Women’s Golf Team. I have done 2 internships with GE Aviation where I wrote test procedure programs for the Flight Management System. After graduation, I hope to go into the “family business” of aviation and aerospace, or into systems testing with automotive racing.

Hi I’m Yetunde OluwaTosin Sokefun. I’m studying chemical engineering at USF. I work in a lab where I convert greenhouse gases to help the environment. I’m researching how to turn solid waste into liquid fuel. I’m a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. I’m also part of the American Association of University Women. We empower women to lead in the workforce and mentor other students. I hope to inspire more females to pursue science degrees.

The Medical Engineering department is jointly run by the College of Engineering and the Morsani College of Medicine. The faculty consists of both physicians and engineers. I’m Haley Mariner. I’m a Biomedical Engineering student at USF. When I graduate, I want to create medical devices to help people in need. I earned a Co-op with Johnson & Johnson’s Manufacturing Supply Chain. I also traveled to the Dominican Republic with my classmates to provide medical care for under-served communities. I plan to return this summer for an internship with the Kerolle Initiative.

Welcome to the industrial engineering department at USF. I’m Kevin Melendez. I’m a student here, but I also work in this lab. I teach other students how to manufacture metal parts that run everything from cars to planes. I’m learning how to program robots to automate tasks like picking things up from our conveyor belt. When I graduate, I want to create innovative solutions to people’s problems. USF’s industrial engineering program prepares students to go into lots of different jobs like healthcare, entertainment, and manufacturing. That’s because, on top of learning mathematical, statistical, and physical sciences, we also focus on the social sciences, and business management.

Hi, I’m Donovan Pink. When I was in high school, I came to USF’s Engineering Expo on a field trip and fell in love with the College of Engineering. I’m now a civil engineering student here. I also played on the USF baseball team. I’m a member of the spirit squad, so you’ll see me at almost all of the sporting events. I love that I can combine my passion for sports and engineering. My dream job is to build stadiums and arenas. For my internship, I helped begin construction on a bridge. I’m also a member of the National Society of Black Engineers.
