HEC (Health Education Complex)

"The Health Education Complex, or HEC, is where your Upstate journey begins. You'll come here to pay tuition, shop at the bookstore, play e-sports, work out at the Spartan Rec Center, or eat at the Boar's Head café. The HEC is also home to the Mary Black School of Nursing and the School of Education, Human Performance, and Health. Our nursing students learn in one of the largest simulation labs in the southeast, and are in high demand when they graduate, often with a job in hand. Similarly, our education school is one of the best in the state and has very high placement rates for new teachers."

Baseball/Softball Stadiums

"The Cleveland S. Harley Baseball Park and Cyrill Softball Stadium are favorites of students and families who come to watch our teams. They both feature award-winning playing fields and plenty of stadium seating for fans. USC Upstate teams are encouraged to attend each other's games and support their fellow Spartans, so you'll often see other athletes cheering in the stands! Baseball and softball are popular pastimes at USC Upstate, with both men and women winning championships, and players moving on to the major leagues."

Palmetto and Magnolia House

"Palmetto House and Magnolia House are two of USC Upstate's on-campus housing options. Magnolia House is reserved for freshmen, while both freshmen and upperclassmen live in Palmetto House. Both feature a number of suite-style floor plans and modern amenities. Sparty's Den, a popular game room, is located in Palmetto House. Nearby, the Villas are more traditional-style apartments for upperclassmen. Each apartment has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, and a full-sized kitchen. Resident advisors, or RAs, live on-site at all housing complexes. Many fun activities for all residents take place throughout the year, including midnight breakfast, block parties, ice cream socials and cookouts."

The George

"The George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics, affectionately known as "The George," is located in downtown Spartanburg and is surrounded by a growing number of shops and restaurants. Classroom instruction focuses on developing those skills most in demand by top regional employers, such as BMW, Michelin and Hubbell Lighting, and many students with internships at these companies are offered full-time jobs after graduation. A Stock Trading Lab lets students make real-time stock trading calls. You'll also be surrounded by three art galleries featuring works from the Johnson Collection of Southern Art. A free shuttle runs between The George and the main campus. "

University Readiness Center (URC)

The University Readiness Center is located across the street from the HEC. Here you'll find the Exercise and Sport Science program, one of our most popular new majors, and the offices of the South Carolina National Guard. You might also come here for an orientation event, or, once you're a student, to present research at the S.C. Upstate Research Symposium! The outdoor terrace is a popular place for large events. The dressing rooms for athletic teams using the Louis P. Howell Athletics Complex are also located here. 

CLC (Campus Life Center)

"The Olin B. Sansbury, Jr. Campus Life Center, commonly called the CLC, is the hub for student activities. If you want to join a fraternity or sorority, or participate in service activities in the community, you can learn about those opportunities here. The Lounge is a popular gathering spot for students, particularly those who commute, and offers a place to relax and socialize. Disability Services, Student Affairs and the Spartan Pantry, which provides food for students in need, are also in the CLC, along with the student cafeteria. You'll find several meeting rooms upstairs, along with a large ballroom where many campus events, student awards nights, and receptions are held."

Library

"The USC Upstate Library, which includes classrooms and office space, holds more than 220,000 volumes and a fast-growing archival collection. Both floors of our library have been completely renovated. You can now get a coffee drink at the Starbucks café before settling in to study in one of the comfortable workspaces or on the outdoor terrace. Indoor seating options allow you to work quietly on your own or in groups. A 24/7 computer lab is available after library hours. Career Services, on the second floor, helps you find jobs and internships, and, through the free Clothing Closet, can help outfit you for that important interview."

Hodge

"The G.B. Hodge Center is the home of our volleyball and men's and women's basketball teams. We have enthusiastic fans from both the campus and community who love to cheer on the Spartans at the Eddie and Ann Payne Arena! Midnight Madness brings the campus together to kick off basketball season every November. The facility also includes a new weight room, the Spartan Performance Center, a video control room, and updated basketball and volleyball locker rooms. The USC Upstate Athletics Department is located on the first floor of the Hodge Center. Math and Computer Science offices and classrooms are on the second floor."

Arboretum

"The Susan Jacobs Arboretum is a place of natural serenity and beauty. On nice days, you'll often see a class being held in the 300-seat amphitheater, or even in the creek itself! There are plenty of benches and large creekside stones for relaxing, studying, or talking to a friend. Students and faculty alike enjoy eating lunch at the picnic tables in the covered pavilion, which is also a popular place for outdoor receptions and other social events. Across the creek from the pavilion is the P. Kathryn Hicks Visual Arts Center. The center provides studio space for drawing, painting, graphic design, printmaking, digital imaging and 3D design. "

HPAC

"The Humanities and Performing Arts Center, or HPAC, features a 450-seat theater. Here, you'll have a chance to learn theatre arts first-hand through acting, set design, directing, playwriting, or studying modern and classic theatre.  Students in USC Upstate's Theatre program produce several shows each year, and many have participated in the prestigious Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. HPAC also houses the Department of Fine Arts and Communication Studies; the Department of Languages, Literature and Composition; a music recital hall; private practice rooms; art studios; and labs for graphic design, writing, foreign language and journalism."

Hammocks

The hammocks in the lower Quad provide a unique place to study, socialize, or just nap! The lower quad is framed by the Arts and Sciences building, the Humanities and Performing Arts Center and the Media building. Given South Carolina's mild climate, you'll be able to enjoy the hammocks almost all year.

Smith

"The Horace C. Smith Science Building houses the Natural Sciences and Engineering division. Here you'll find labs for our biology and chemistry majors, but labs aren't just for class work. Many students work on cutting-edge research projects directed by our faculty. If you'd like to get involved but don't know how, just ask! Our faculty are happy to suggest projects that match your interests. You'll also find the Watershed Ecology Center here, along with the USC Upstate Herbarium, which houses more than 16,000 species of native plants. A food court with a variety of dining options and outdoor seating is located on the ground floor."

CASB (College of Arts and Sciences Building)

"The Arts and Sciences Building contains classrooms and the administrative offices for the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; the College of Science and Technology; the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies; the Department of Psychology; and the Center for Child Advocacy Studies. The front entrance of the building faces the lower Quad, another popular green space. You'll know it by the hammocks, a great place to read and relax."

Media

"Interested in a career in television? The Media Building is home to the local studios of WRET-TV, a South Carolina public television station. The TV studio is a fully-functioning broadcast space in which students can gain essential skills in mass media production. Some have even done summer internships with the station! The Media Building also houses the Department of History, Political Science, Philosophy and American Studies; the Department of Informatics and Engineering Systems; and the Department of Sociology, Criminal Justice and Women's and Gender Studies."

Soccer Stadium

"The County University Soccer Stadium has been the site of NCAA Tournament games and, along with the youth soccer fields, has hosted national and regional Olympic Development Program camps. The building houses five locker rooms used by the men's and women's soccer teams, a concession stand, hospitality suites, and public restrooms. "

Admin Building

"The John C. Stockwell Administration Building was the first building completed on campus in 1969, and is instantly recognizable by its gleaming gold dome and large fountain in the circular driveway. This is a favorite photo spot for our graduating seniors! The Administration building overlooks the Rose Terrace and upper quadrangle, better known as The Quad, where Commencement is held every spring. This is also a popular place for a pick-up game of frisbee, or simply relaxing. The main floor houses a number of administrative offices, including those for our Chancellor and Provost."

Downtown Spartanburg

"When you need to take a break, Spartanburg's dining and cultural attractions are just a 10-minute drive from campus. Downtown Spartanburg offers many fun places to unwind, from restaurants to bowling to sports bars! A wide variety of shopping and services can be found along Main Street, along with cafes and ice cream shops. Studio Upstate, USC Upstate's student-run graphic design agency, is also located on Main Street. Working there is great way to build your portfolio! The Chapman Cultural Center hosts live performances, a museum, a science center, and a robust lineup of events throughout the year."

Upstate South Carolina Area

There's a reason companies like BMW have headquarters in South Carolina's Upstate region. This fast-growing area is not only stunningly beautiful, but it offers a high quality of life. The Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport makes travel to and from the region easy. Both Greenville and Spartanburg offer vibrant downtowns. Greenville has become one of the state's most popular destinations for shopping, dining and entertainment. Outdoor recreational opportunities can be found in every community. Asheville, with its artsy restaurants and boutiques, is a popular weekend getaway spot. From Spartanburg, Charlotte is approximately 90 minutes to the east; Atlanta is two hours to the west. South Carolina's beaches are about a three-hour drive.
